I don't think there'll be a problem with the mix of Danyer's song, but if there is it's because my headphones are old and acting funny. The right earpiece is very muffled.

So apparently the sound got switched to the right side of my computer through system preferences. I have no idea when it happened, but I guess it's not my headphones.

I'm new here, great site. I hope I got mine in on time. I saw this place about two weeks ago and lurked around to see what all the hub bub was about. I wasn't able to register for some odd reason until this morning.
Anyway, hope to hear some creative tunes.

Billy's Little Trip is the shit. Great bassline. Wish the break in the middle was longer, and it could use a little variety in there, but great work.

Thanks. I always start basic, then listen to the song I'm working on for a few weeks at different times of the day and night, in different mental states of mind, IE: Drunk, hung over, after eating Mexican food, etc etc. Then I make a few notes and changes until I get it the way I like it. I've been known to over do songs, so I try to just stop when my brain says, "I can live with that", lol. In this case, I had no choice because I had to put it together and emailed in about 3 days.
I'm not used to the way you guys do things here yet, but I may have over thought by trying to do something different then what I thought you guys will do. So I went for a Lezbo proposal. I'm a very open minded guy, and I have no problem with gay marriage as long as both chicks are hot. 8)

Now I'm going to go listen to the submissions. Color me excited! :)

Hey Thanks Dre! It's really Frisbees song, I just noodle on Mandolin and Bass, with ambient Dobro and Banjo.

I have to go with that Glenn guy. I haven't gotten to know you guys yet, but damn, that song hit home. The chorus actually made me a bit emotional, "and I want you to be happy, that's no lie..and you will be a gorgeous bride, right now I want to die" I guess because it reminds me of the one I let get away. But the melody is perfect and flows excalant with the lyrics. *thumbs up smiley*

By the way, I should add that all of the songs were pretty cool in their own way. But if there was a catigory for song that rocked the hardest, my vote is Paco *head banger smiley here*

Adnoisium I was going for a bit of a Marriage for Dummies/ Speech you'd hear at a wedding thing.

Andre Was Here At Midnight The bass drum falls out of time a few times. I can't tell if there's an effect on the vocals or it's just a side effect on the vocals.Nice mix, and a good song overall.

Bear Squadron There's a bit of noise/hiss. It's got a jummbled feel to it, with just a bit more practice this formula could produce something really nice. This time however, it falls a bit short. It's something I'd love to hear at a wedding just because it's so crazy.

B. Ellison A nice song/mix. Not much to say really. It sounds like a song you'd hear a wedding band play...you know if the lyrics didn't take such a morrbid turn.

Billy's Little Trip A bit of hiss/noise here. The vocals are a bit quiet at some points, but overall good. Not my cup o tea, but a good song.

Cranial Biffida Is that a clip of Sellers/Mason in Lolita starting things off? Very foreboding sound to the music. It's a bit difficult to hear the male vocals and even more so the female vocals. A bit too heavy a song for my liking, but a good doom/death metal song.

Cynthia Size and her Eclectic SpOOns The vocals are a bit difficult to hear. Overall a good song.

Damien Verrett A very emoish sound to the song. But the lyrics are a bit more out there than the common emo fare. The mix could have been a bit better, but overall a good song.

Dangerous A nice mellow instrumental. Not much to say here. There's an abrupt stop in the fade out, a minor thing really. a good song overall.

Danyer A bit of hiss/noise here. Some bizzare borderline gross lyrics. Overall a good song if a bit disturbing.

Dean Sky Another mellow song. Lyrics are a bit odd/disturbing too.
Overall a well produced song.

Deux Freres It sounds as though there might be a bit of an effect on the vocals. A good song overall.

Emergency Pizza Party An odd name that sounds like it has a back story/inside joke to it. Another song I'd like to hear at a wedding. Not really my taste in music, but imaging it in context amuses me. A good song overall.

The Friedrich Honighosen Project Is that the same beat you used last time!? There's a few extra things this time around, but that sound stands out the most. Reminds me a bit of that Always Wear Sunscreen song coupled with a few jokes you might hear from an observational comedian. An okay song overall.

Glenn Case A bit of a modern country feel to it. Not my bag,but a good/well produced song overall.

Jacob Lynn The song is pretty durn long. A good song overall if a bit too long.

Jimmy Jet and His TV Set Would have been better without the wedding march intro. A slight jummbled feel durring the chorus. A bit of noise/hiss but a good song overall. Mayhaps a bit too long.

Klownhole Vocals are a bit too quiet, and you retain your trademark style. Which I have said before really isn't my thing. But a well done/good song overall.

Melvin At first reminded me a bit of INXS, but soon turned to a more modern pop. Not a fan of this style, but it's well done and a good song overall.

The Narcaloungers The guitars have a metal sound to them. The vocals are well done, remind me a bit of an 80's song though. A good song overall if not my taste.

Our Dog Once again could have done without the wedding march, and once again a bit to foreboding and metal for me to like personaly. But a good/well produced song overall.

Paco del Stinko Intro reminded me a bit of Mr. Sandman, and seemed a bit unnecessary. If there weren't so many voices this would be a good example of what Bear Squadron should try for. The music reminds me a bit of 'Man or Astro-man?'. The vocals have too metal of a delivery for me. Would have prefered the vocals to sound like they initialy do, throughout. But still a good/very cleanly produced song.

Rone Rivendale A really distinctly club feeling to the beat. The beat gets a bit cluttered with the cymbals. Noise/Hiss on the vocals. A jummbled feel overall, but still shows improvment. An okay song overall, and shows potential.

Thank Glennny for the Frisbee Vocals have a bit of a Unicorns/Islands with a twist of Brian Wilson layering feel. A good/well produced song overall.

Voh Vocals are a bit too quiet. Not a fan of the style here, but still a good song overall.

Wages Not liking the cymbals in the begining. The vocals sound like something one migh hear at a wedding, but the rest dosen't really. The beat gets a bit of a club sound to it occasionaly. Not digging the style, and it's a bit long in my opinion, but still a good song overall.

Yes Yes No, Yes A bit of noist/hiss here. Not liking the white noise at the end, or anything else about this song for that matter. It's bizzare and jummbled. I can't think of any redeeming qualities here other than there is a bit of potential here.

Zipline A bit of a latin/Phish feel here, but that soon fades away and becomes something more pop-y. The intro is maybee a bit too long. The vocals are hard to hear initialy. The song is a bit long, but pretty good overall.

Wedding Song - reviews

Post by Paco Del Stinko »

I thought that this fight was much stronger than last weeks, overall. It also seems as though the majority of people took a darker route through the topic.

Adnoisium - I like the overall tone of this, sonically, but it feels kind of like a scratchpad entry.

Andre Was Here At Midnite - All of this doesn't line up as well as it might, but the mood and feel come through very well. Nice, dark progression and good layering ideas, just a bit unsteady. I enjoy the sound of your voice.

Bear Squadron - Promising start, if silly, but quickly slides off a cliff. It sounds like being new to multi-tracking fun-time mode.

BEllison - Very nice. More funereal then celebratory. The vocals are right there. I like the progression and instrumentation. Parts make my head start to float off.

Billy's Little Trip - Love the intro, bit the main body doesn't disappoint either. Fun, rocking changes and good voice. Bass sounds good if too loud on my set-up here. This is good surf-punk and enjoyable.

Cranial Biffida - I like the electro-vampire changes. Very cinematic even if the movie is a bit cheesey. Relentless and consistent, I like this more than I typically might.

Cynthia Size And Her Eclectic Spoons - I like the chicka-wah and airy production, but that high pitched sound is killing me! Ms. Size is harder for me to understand this week, but I like some of where she goes. Good drive, if a bit meandering at times.

Damien Verrett - Nice atmosphere and well constructed. It's like a romp through the playground of the subconscious. Some of the reverb gives it a hint of coldness, but sounds nice all around. I like what appears to be lack of structure.

Dangerous - The view from an airplane window, perhaps. Sounds good, but you're gonna get slammed for lack of vocals. I like vocals too.

Danyer - I like this, primarily for the lyrics. I don't dislike the dissonant acoustic sounds, I'd rather they took more of a back-seat. Shit rugs and ball sacks! I bet that store will do well at the mall!

Dean Sky - Good vocal work and melody, especially after it settles in a bit. The guitar is very nice. The drums feel a bit anxious at times compared to the more laid-back vocals and instruments. Glad I'm not the star of the song.

Deux Freres - Nice rhythm and toe tapper. I like the overall tone of the song, mood-wise. The changes work well and are well constructed with some excellent vocal work. Guitar solo is just right. Very nice.

Emergency Pizza Party - Cold and sinister. Aggressive, yet I don't feel threatened. Some good vocal deliveries and well produced. The beat and rhythm breaks up enough and in the right places, to keep from wearing down. Good one.

The Friedrich Honighosen Project - Some good sounds and lines, I like the main loop. This would be fun to hear at an outrageous volume inside of an active factory, once. Fun for a couple of times.

Glenn Case - This is wonderful. The chords in the intro sound like they're setting up something different than where this goes, at first, but listening again, it becomes the exciting intro to a great song. I haven't been at Songfight long, but this is one of my favorites from here, right off the bat. Excellent.

Jacob Lynn - I like the build-up in the beginning. Moody song, but not all mopey. Nice instrumentation and performances, good vocals with a wobble here and there. something could smooth out the overall feel , after it gets going, but this is good.

Jimmy Jet And His TV Set - I was waiting for the needle skip and metal guitars to come in after the intro. The changes are good and work well and the voice is nice. Although this sounds good, an electric performance might convey bigger thrills.

Klownhole - Like a shot of whiskey after a bad day. Great changes into a runaway train. OWW! My neck! This sounds together and properly terrifying. Nice.

Melvin - Best when the chorus kicks in. Nicely charged bridge and guitar section sound elevated. The verses are blah in comparison, but sound nice all opened up like that . Maybe different drum dynamics there? Solid.

The Narcoloungers - Excellent guitar and voice leading the way. It's all good with the drums provoding an occasional hiccup. It sounds like a band at a house party, and I would be glad to sit and watch versus mingle. Nice song.

Our Dog - It's a mess and I'd like to hear more drums, less vocal. Could be the opening act for my entry this week! :)

Paco - Quieter guitars way left are emulated, others are amped.

Rone Rivendale - Your production is more balanced this week, levels, mix, etc. but the song is a bit off track. Sometimes less is more, in relation to the rhythm track.

Thank Glennny For The Frisbee - Great team-up! Nice song that benefits much from the layering of instruments, giving a well balanced, almost tidal, feel. TFTF's voice sounds nice all brightened up and doesn't lose the emotion. Very nice, I hope that you guys work together again.

Voh - Nice main guitar riff and energy. The chorus is fine and sounds like acoustified Steve Miller grunge. The vocals get a bit stiff at the end, rhythmically.

Wages - I like the progression and melody, even if both could be smoothed out more performance wise. They both travel in the right direction. There's a good positive energy here, and in many of your songs, that is clear and bright.

YesYesNoYes - I'd like this whole thing squished down and used in the background of something else. Neat sounds.

Zipline - Good jam and more together than some of your other entries: same mission, same page. I like the soaring Rush feel and the well done variations w/o straying too far. Great playing all around and the minimalist vocals are wise and fit well. please keep at it!

I gotta let these settle in before I vote, but Glenn Case is the man to beat. Thanks for all the songs, everybody!

Except that I stumbled on a video of you playing my "Last Date" in Santa Cruz. It was nice that you covered a song of mine.
