READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY SO YOU DON'T DISQUALIFY YOURSELF.
I would love to see at least one songfighter in the top 25. I entered "Glutton", and you will see that on page two.
ROCK!

Nice to see the Songfighters representin'
I told <a href="http://www.myspace.com/brothermachine">Brother Machine</a> about the contest, and I suggested he enter "Every Day of the Week".
Well, he did. I would like to make a prediction:
Brother Machine will be in the top 10.
That is all.
ROCK!

Heh. That's funny. The way that my sentence can be read wrong reminds me of the <a href="http://independentsources.com/2006/07/1 ... entionally terrible website URLs</a> I read about a while back.Billy's Little Trip wrote:Oh, he has a song called "every day of the week". I was going to say, your going to get him disqualified, lol.
He sounds pretty good.
Bro Mac's an <a href="http://www.songfight.org/artistpage.php ... fighter</a> too.
ROCK!

Too bad this week's fight wasn't "Zilla's Hand", or I'd have a song right there

I just posted this on my blogs. I thought it made sense to post it here too:
It’s funny. I tell myself that I don’t enjoy competition, and yet I compete a lot.
This month has me involved in two major contests:
<a href="http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... 1">Rolling Stone's Best Bands on MySpace</a>, and The <a href="http://www.countdownto1.com/index.asp">Countdown to 1</a>
Here’s a fact that may surprise you… I genuinely <b>DO NOT</b> believe that I will be a winner in either contest, but I DO believe that I have represented myself with some of the best material I have ever written. You can not win the competition if you do not enter it.
Rolling Stone will be picking their 25 favorite songs, and printing those choices in their magazine. Are they doing it to get more people to read the magazine? Who cares?!? I LOVE that Rolling Stone is doing this contest, but up until now I did not want to say so. Giving a thumbs up could be seen as an attempt to kiss ass, and weasel my way into their countdown by sucking up. My lack of patience has caused me to just say so anyway. Of course, if I DID end up in the top 25, I would be completely paranoid about it now. The fact is, they are creating temporary excitement and hope for some of us, and it's a nice feeling. It's also nice to know that there will be 25 of us in the winner's circle. The odds seem a lot more reasonable as a result.
On the other end of the spectrum, the winner of the Countdown to 1 contest will be playing in front of millions of people. Times Square during New Year’s Eve, to be exact. The rules and legal agreement section of the Countdown to 1 contest is <a href="http://www.countdownto1.com/rules.html">DOWNRIGHT FRIGHTENING!</a> I have entered THIS contest knowing that I am running the risk of essentially giving up all of my rights to one of my favorite songs that I have ever written. It was actually a very tough decision for me.
Entering both of these contests was actually a major step for me. As early as a few years ago, I was one of those people who was genuinely concerned about song copyrights, and people stealing my songs, etc, etc. Many musicians fall into this trap so far that they potentially stifle their own creativity. Why bother to write a song if someone's just going to steal your masterpiece anyway?!
<b>Keep this in mind: FIRST you have to write a song that is even WORTH stealing. That is not exactly an easy task.</b>
The point is, I have avoided contests like these in the past, and I decided to just go for it this time. The Rolling Stone contest was a MUCH easier decision, because they didn't have a crapload of rules bogged down with legal jargon. It's a nice, refreshing change from what I would expect.
<b>HERE ARE THE ENTRIES I AM ROOTING FOR THAT HAVE ENTERED THE ROLLING STONE CONTEST THUS FAR:</b>
<i>(In order of appearance)</i>
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/glenncase">Glenn Case</a> - Glutton</b>
Of course I am rooting for myself. I would LIKE to be in the top 25, but that doesn't mean that I will be. Even if it's the best song I will ever write, that doesn't mean that the right people will even remotely like it. Even the best musicians are not universally enjoyed by everyone. You should be able to find me as the second entry on the second page of the blog, for what it's worth.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/frankiebigface">Frankie Big Face</a> - Locked Box</b>
He's a songfighter. This is one of the finest compositions to ever emerge from the Songfight/Somesongs scene. I REALLY hope that there is at LEAST one songfighter in the top 25. This is a strong contender.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/lukehenley">Luke Henley</a> - House Boat</b>
Another songfighter. I know very little about him, but he's a songfighter. I admit that I have not listened to this yet.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/sausageboymusic">Sausage Boy</a> - Old Habits Die Hard</b>
Same scenario as Luke. A songfighter whose song I have not yet listened to.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/thejbb">The John Benjamin Band</a> - Plastic Rose</b>
Like Frankie, John is another Songfight force to be reckoned with. Good luck, John!
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/room17">Anti-M</a> - Red Door</b>
She has a magnificent voice. She is also linked to Songfight. Surprised?
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/billyslittletrip">Billy's Little Trip</a> - Glass Bridge</b>
A Songfight newcomer. Quite possibly an up and coming Songfight legend, in truth.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/caravanraymusic">Caravan Ray</a> - Pencil Me In</b>
CARAVAN RAY!! OY! OY! OY!! CARAVAN RAY!! OY! OY! OY!! (Yes, he is a Songfighter)
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/rabidgarfunkel">Rabid Garfunkel</a> - Sign My Box</b>
The king of percussion is a nice guy, he is representing in the contest, and oh yeah... he's a Songfighter.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/plaidfluff">Sockpuppet</a> - Run Faster</b>
Songfight veteran finds new band name, enters contest.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/merisan">Merisan</a> - I Don't Want to Be Your Friend</b>
Songfight's dynamic duo has a good shot at this. Solid song, beautiful harmonies, nice people too. Rachael likes this one so much that she <a href="http://rachaellayne.blogspot.com/2006/1 ... l">already picked it on her top 10,000 list.</a> (I wouldn't be surprised to see it on my list too at some point.)
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/brothermachine">Brother Machine</a> - Every Day of the Week</b>
I personally asked Bro Mac to enter this competition, and I am really happy that he did. I have already <a href="http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.p ... >predicted that this song will be in the top 10.</a> I am not trying to pick favorites, but if I was doing so? I would say that this is quite possibly Songfight's greatest chance of being represented in the top 25.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/brodymusic">Brody</a> - Red Flag</b>
RED FLAG! Of COURSE I am going to root for the guy that provided me with my first REAL microphone (A Shure SM57 that I still use.) It helps that it's a good song too. Another Songfight veteran of course.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/mightyoctothorpe">The Mighty Octothorpe</a> - Skyline</b>
Are you guys officially known as the MIGHTY Octothorpe now? I LOVE it. I would love to see a mention in Rolling Stone to go alongside the classic mention in Spin, guys.
<b><a href="http://www.myspace.com/buffalojones">Buffalo Jones</a> - Tumbled Towards Morning</b>
I may not be playing with these guys any more, but we parted on good terms. They are not Songfighters, but I would still love to see them in the top 25. The paranoid side of me hopes that this entry is not going to disqualify this song and my solo entry, because I played bass on this recording, but I had no part in writing the song.
If any other Songfighters entered the contest and I didn't mention you, I did not leave you out of this intentionally.
As far as the countdown to 1 contest goes, I will be able to tell you that I lost the contest (along with the rights to "Wedding Song") on or around December 18th.
ROCK!

Aw Shucks! You're too kind! I don't really stand a chance amongst all this super talent... but I thought I'd throw the old hat in the ring to reprahzent for the SF, as you say.GlennCase wrote:

And in OTHER NEWS... <b>YAY FOR CLARIFICATION!!!</b>
The Rolling Stone Myspace profile just confirmed that both the Buffalo Jones and Glenn Case entries are okay.
Here is the specific question and answer, in case it helps your band to know what's okay too:
QUESTION:
Hi there,
You guys probably have your hands full, so I will try to be brief.
In the interest of being honest, I need to ask you a question regarding the eligibility of two songs in your contest.
The songs in question are my entry, and that of my ex-band.
I played everything on my song, "Glutton". My friend Puce mixed it, but everything is me. I wrote it and recorded it myself.
I just recently quit the band Buffalo Jones on good terms, but I noticed that they entered "Tumbled Towards Morning" today, and I played bass guitar on that recording. I had no part of writing that song, but I am playing on it.
My question is: Are both of these songs eligible, or does one of us need to drop out? I was just hoping to clarify this rather than taking the risk of us both being disqualified.
Thank you for your time. Thank you for putting this contest together without having an obnoxious amount of legal jargon attached to it.
I also swear that I am not trying to kiss your ass or get special consideration by contacting you.
ROCK!
Glenn Case
-------------------
ANSWER: Both are eligible. We've gotten about of submissions by solo artists and their side projects, etc. It's one song per artist. You and your ex-band are seperate artists. If you submitted a song as Glenn Case, then another song as The Glenn Case Band, that would be frowned upon, but its ok, you and you ex are both legit.

Thank you Glenn, coming from you this means a lot. I hope I can live up to it. After listening to the entries on the Rolling Stone contest, I don't have a chance in hell of getting in the top 25, but I honestly think a number of the SF'ers you listed do have a great chance, so I'll be crossing my fingers for one of us to get in. ROCK ON Song Fight!Billy's Little Trip - Glass Bridge
