I've been getting a bunch of out of print stuff through the Southern Lord forums and have found some real gems:

Old Grandad - vol. 666 (hilarious stoner metal, like if Ween went completely metal with a sludgier sound).

Make a Change... Kill Yourself - s/t (really epic black metal with very little theatrical bullshit to it. 20+ minute songs full of really brash/abrasive guitar-playing and really sweet arrangements)

and most recently Of Cabbages and Kings - Never Too Late (Members of Swans, Foetus, and Prong doing nightmarish sludgey apocalypse-punk. Incredible shit, reminds me of Alice Donut, Stooges, but much bleaker)

If anyone wants this shit, ask and you shall receive.

so i've had this song stuck in my head for the past 2 days and i couldn't get rid of it. finally, this morning i said "fuck i've gotta get this out of my head"

It's a Long Way There - The Little River Band

holy crap this song is so good now that i can really appreciate it. listening on headphones, the production and execution is absolutely stellar.

maybe there is something to that yacht rock. and yeah, i love frampton comes alive too.

Damn Jack, that is an awesome tune. I've heard of the Little River Band, but never really listen to them unless they pop up on my "music Choice" from my cable company. Songs like that make a musician either try harder, or just give up, LOL. Excellent song. Nice pick.

Yes - well, I can appreciate the production. I had a quick listen and it really is impressive. Otherwise though, this song only brings back very bad memories of the late 70s/early 80s when a group of Australians decided they could make an easy quid by trying to sound "Californian". It was a nasty, cynical exercise for which Glenn Shorrick, Brian Cadd, Air Supply etc. etc should burn forever in hell.

Well, Men At Work were a slightly different case - they did actually have their own 'sound' - no matter how twee and annoying it was. It was LRB and Air Supply (and before them, though not as successfully Brian Cadd) who set out to conquer the world by trying to sound exactly like Americans.

Yes! That's what I've been meaning to say, and would go some way to explaining me not feeling this one particularly (and would explain why Radio 1 get so excited over xmas).

I heard Xfm play 'Just Like Christmas' by Low the other night and I was beaming, I love it when the radio pulls a random gem out of the bag.

Also, I can't remember who, or in what thread it was, posted the link to Kid Koala doing 'Moon River' but thankyou so much whoever it was. I remember seeing him do that when he played with EITS and Four Tet and it was the high point of the night (yes, at a gig where 'The only moment we're alone' got played live) but it's not on any of his albums. I've been waiting for another chance to hear that for months.

Oh, and Jute, have you heard Otto von Shirach? I never had before last night and you like foul music so I thought of you.

This is the kind of stuff I've been hopelessly trying to make, nice and glitchy but not too much over the top d'n'b. Check 'Lord of the Dance', it's fun. I bought Body Riddle the other day (which is also ace) and for some reason they gave me his Throttle EP for free, I didn't even realise for ages. Brucey Bonus!

Also got the new Subtle album, For Hero, For Fool, and surprisingly it's actually miles better than A New White which at the time I thought was really cool but just sounds too rambly and limp now.

Botch DVD fucking rocks; they're cover of 'Rock Lobster' is a reason to buy it alone, come for the lobster, stay for the frequency ass bandit.

You've figured me out! I've actually heard only a few songs by him, but I like what I've heard. There's a Reaktor ensemble here that emulates his work pretty well.
