Can’t let 2006 pass bye, without me doing 1 AAD this year. I been meaning to do one for months, but recording has been the last thing on my mind recently.
I think am going to summaries everything that happened to me in 2006 and the plans for 2007. I’ll start later when it gets dark.
Can’t wait till hear what KEN has done.

It was a marathon, but I finish my 6th Album a day, on the 31st.
Man was it fun, I had forgotten how fun those things are to make, I suggest everyone gives it a try, and just have fun making music.
I know I did, and it probably shows here. My best album a day up to day.
my favorites are, "i have a plan", "hello" and "goodbye 2006". enjoy.
as a side note the album was record on a delta blues slide guitar tunning of eBG#EBE.

An old one
I made another AAD EP in May or April of this past year that I never posted. Mostly because it wasn't very good. It's under an old moniker - Abortion By Bullet. Happy New Year!!

To create an Album-a-Day, you record a piece of music following these rules:fodroy wrote:Isn't that a rule violation? I'm pretty sure you have to work on one song until it's finished and then the next song until it's finished, etc.jolly roger wrote:One of the songs is a one bar circus tune, so if I run out of time, I'll probably just be looping that.
# It must be written, performed, recorded, post-produced, etc. all in one contiguous 24-hour period (preferably with no sleep break in there).
# It must be at least 20 minutes or 30 songs. (many short songs tend to work better than long songs which drag on forever, trust me.)
# Your band may have multiple participants, but they should not work on different songs simultaneously. (So just one song being worked on at a time.)
# No ideas from before the chosen day! This means covers or reinterpretations are not allowed.
# No out-takes! If you start a song, finish it and put it on the album.
I believe the rule you are referring to is:
# Your band may have multiple participants, but they should not work on different songs simultaneously. (So just one song being worked on at a time.)
I think that's worded as it is to specify that you can't have one person working on one song while someone else works on a different one.
There is no rule that specifically states that you have to finish a song before moving on to the next one, but you are not allowed to have out-takes.
So, in theory, you could move on to another song as long as you come back to the one you skipped, and you finish it before the deadline.
ROCK!

I think this might be right up our alley, but I'm not sure if our usual ethic is against the rules. If we improvise/write a 15minute jam then edit it down to a 3:30 song, is that legal? Or would that be an out-take violation?# No out-takes! If you start a song, finish it and put it on the album.
thanks

that sounds legal to me -- what you are doing is still in the spirit of the regulations.
after all, it doesn't say if you write lyrics for a song, you have to include every word you wrote in the final product... or that your first-take guitar solo where you broke a string can't be re-recorded in the finished track.
if your songwriting process includes playing a bunch of stuff and keeping what you like, then that should work. as long as after you are done editing you are left with at least 20 minutes or whatever it's supposed to be.

Man. This blows. I was pretty far in, then I realized - I have no lyrics. I have no ideas for lyrics. I sit there for an hour trying to think of lyrics. I can't think of any lyrics. I try to do a song with lyrics, and it's horrible. I'm sending these files down here, and you're hearing my terrible AAD with little to no lyrics.

Hey JR, I just listened to Wordless. I really like some of the ideas on here, and I think you open and close the album with style. "Lullabye" is surprisingly good. I also thought Circus Party was intriguing to say the least, with a nice acoustic/electric dynamic. The real surprise, though, was "Falling Apart" -- the way you play the gain on that is wicked, like dub in rock zen.
The other tracks sound clearly like what they probably are - sloppy backing trakcs to songs that are meant to have a melody on top. This was only my first listen, though.
Cheers, anyway. It's always good to see and hear someone attempt this, and this album is still quite solid. Nice cover, too.

JR... Here’s an interesting observation.
On you electric guitar, you’re a metal maniac, making your influences strongly be heard.
But yet you switch to an acoustic and is like you become some kind of sad lonely cowboy.
Talk about opposite ends.
Then again I could be completely wrong.
Liked the acoustic stuff better.
