Finally done.... and submitted.... what a busy week. I'm damned proud of this one. Hopefully finals won't screw me up so much I can't stay in for Round One.

oh and to beat the challenge I just jammed out on my desk and the things on my desk wiht a pair of drum sticks. Sounds pretty cool actually. 8)

We're in, but getting the song done was one of the biggest pains in the arse ever. We both had fairly serious computer-related beef which may keep us out of the next round sadly, but we'll see how it goes. I think we survived this one.

Done, submitted, and I suspect disqualified already. Damnit.

***EDIT***

Removed samples, recorded acoustic non-conventional percussion, fixed track, resubmitted.

Meet Mr. Bones, my drum for this fight. (Well, his spine, jaw, breastbone, ox...ocsip...occiptia...eyehole & brow ridge, and skull.)

Good catch. Yeah, I've actually wanted to use that as a band name for some time but during the 90's string of bands like Sroke 9, Eve 6, Finger 11, etc (not to mention all the rap artists using "ice", Ice T, Ice Cube, Vanilla Ice), I thought it would get confused w/ something like that. Hopefully enough time has passed...

Incidentally, I think Ice 9 was a band name Frisbee and I considered using back in the day, but discarded for the above reasons.

Done, at long last. My drum kit:

Kick: 6 gallon plastic water tank + a deeply detuned and muted electric bass (mic'ing the strings, as opposed to amped or DI).
Snare: Cake pan covered in saran wrap, wrapped in a crinkly bag. Muted with a package of Instant Noodles.
Rumble: Plucking a taught bungee cord
Hi-hats: Manual Eggbeater, Manual Coffee Press
Cymbals: Tearing pages out of a Canadian Income Tax guide
Handclaps: A 69-cent irritate-your-parents noisemaker
Ride: A particularly ringy pair of metal tongs
Egg Timer: An egg timer

This is the first time I've ever done drums without sequencing or sampling (I did, however, loop the best takes). There's also some elastics stretched over a shoebox in this song. Fun! Everything else in the song is a guitar.

Now I sleep. Yes I work tomorrow.

So how is this round going to play out? When will the links to the songs go up on the boards? When will the judges decisions be announced as to who qualifies? Will the round one title and challenge go up Friday at 10AM? What if there are fewer than 25 entrants into round zero?

Yes.

That's an interesting dilemma. It doesn't seem likely at this point but if that occurs, we'll figure out something.

My song is finished (as much as it will be by the deadline) and the link has been sent. And I was actually set last week to finally try breaking out the real drums.

Unconventional percussion included the following:
doorbell
knocking on front door
shoes tapping on wooden shelf plank
bathroom scrubbing brush (non-toilet variety)
pants zipper
random outdoor ambient noises

Even though I've been lurking around here for over a year now, I've been really bad about looking up people's back catalogs. I've been doing that a bit the last couple days though to size up my Nur Ein competition. Just wanted to give shout outs to Puce and Lunkhead. You guys are both awesome. Lunkhead, how on earth have you never won?

Wow, thanks! I guess I just haven't tried hard enough and had a good enough song in the right fight yet. If I ever manage to enter again please vote for me. ;)

Anyway, I'm about to listen to the songs, and I'm very excited. Yay! The thought of having new songs every week from lots of these folks is really cool. Whee!
