SYSTEMATIC CHAOS!!!

Post by Reist »

I know the majority of you hate Dream Theater, but their new album came out yesterday, and I've listened to the whole thing twice, and watched the bonus DVD all the way through. I like it. Some of their fastest playing is showcased on here, as well as some of their slowest. On the DVD, there's a spot where Jordan Rudess keeps getting stuck on his keyboard part, and he complains that it's just 'too slow to play'. Anybody else care? I figure not, but there's some decent songwriting on this one, so you may want to check it out.

Your review consisted mostly of how fast they play the songs. I will skip this one as well.

I've never really listened to them. I, however, dig checking out speed players, it's fun sometimes to ENJOY the athletic approach to music. I would hope that this isn't dismissed by musicians simply because they can't do it, or some other ignorant perspective based on self centered comparative opinion rather than simply sitting back and letting the sounds tickle your brain. If an open minded approach leads a listener to just not enjoy a particular sound or piece of music, so be it, but dismissing music simply because another listener says "it's fast" is ... silly. That's not objective, that' s selective based on a principle that is founded in a philosophy that I can only speculate on at this time... but the speculation based on the information available suggests that I have too many words in this paragraph.

I will type this though: I can't skate all that good, but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment of watching Anaheim crush Ottawa. CRUSHED.

Well, Ottawa helped out by scoring on themselves, too.

That screwup helped, but really, that's just 1/6th of the problems they had that game.

Not sure - it really seemed to deflate the team, so I think it was much more than just one goal.

I finally "understood" Dream Theater when I saw book of sheet music for their songs. It is 100 percent gratuitous.

I haven't listened to them since.
But because you're posting it here... I promise to listen to it at least once.

i.p. - If you're looking for tasteful music on Systematic Chaos, check out The Ministry of Lost Souls . If you're looking for self-absorbed music (which I love :P), check out The Dark Eternal Night. However, there's nothing on this album that's as self-absorbed as anything on Train of Thought.
