By an unexpected turn of events, I find myself the owner of a Shure Beta 58 that previously belonged to Trent Reznor, which a friend of mine 'acquired' at a nin gig in Wolverhampton back in the 90s. Not only is this a good upgrade from the SM58 that I'd previously been using, but I'm a huge nin fan so the fanboy in me is rather chuffed too.
I think I ought to cover a nin song with it, just 'cos. Any suggestions from anyone on what I should cover?

Here are a few fitting your good fortune:
#1. Don't catch anything (not a song, just disinfect it really good)
#2. Throw this away (not the mic. Song idea)
#3. Right Where It Belongs (because it's now yours)
#4. Memorabilia (put it in a glass case. if you can't find a glass one, you can always get a good deal on a Glen one.)
#5. Somewhat Damaged (I'm sure it hit the floor repeatedly)
#6. The Collector (you are now officially one)
That's all I can think of.

Anyhow, my two very favourite NIN songs are actually instrumentals (A Warm Place and Leaving Hope), but beyond that I'd say... Hm. Somewhat Damaged is seconded, also Underneath It All (Simple lyrically, tricky musically) and We're In This Together (Because it just kicks ass).
Hmm. Something of a Fragile bias.
PS - this thread reminds me of an idea from long ago that I now need to do.

Some good ideas there, although my first reaction on reading most of them is 'my god, I'd never be able to pull off vocals for *that* song!'. I'd love to be able to do We're In This Together, 'cos I love that song to death, but maybe I can manage a somewhat damaged version of Somewhat Damaged. Good food for thought there, thanks!
