my neighbor just finished gothic 2.. has says you have to get the "Gold" edition, as it is done by the original German team, and not castrated like the American version.

im totally lookin forward to Obvlion, for sure. just finished Jade Empire, and i gotta say, everyone who says it's the best xbox RPG ever is a flaming moron. it was awful.

Oh and losing units in one level meant you'd be short that number in the next level.

Though the losing units grief was for single-player games, not the networked ones. Which, like Halo's continued popularity, is where the fun tends to happen more and more. Bungie is dead, long live Bungie.

I still, to this day, cannot understand the appeal of Halo.

Is it because I'm used to PC FPS games? Mouse/keyboard versus controller aside (though still hugely relevant), the gameplay is nowhere near PC level.

Yeah, I've been turned off a few PS2 games due to the klutzy controls. Give me a mouse and KB over an analog control stick any day.

Anyone else spooging all over Beatmania US, which finally came out a few weeks ago?

Actually I don't think it's quite as fun as the classic ones (which I still have for my modded PS1) but it's still pretty cool. I really miss the classic goofy music videos though... the new videos just don't have that same crazy silliness to them.

i've been playing Oblivion for the past three weeks (three weeks that I meant to work on finishing up my album, but instead used it running in and out of Oblivion gates). It is such a good game, not just in scope, but in the fact that any kind of person can play it. You don't need to be some awesome being of physical strength to finish the game. You can get by quite reasonably with some smarts and dexterity.

I've been pretty disappointed with Oblivion. They've dumbed the gameplay down a lot and they seem to be focusing on the console market more than the PC market. Hopefully the mod community, which thankfully is amazing, will eventually correct these errors. In the meantime I'll stick to Daggerfall and Morrowind.

PS1, not PSI.

The Spyro series is pretty good. Beatmania and Vib Ribbon are both great but they require installing a modchip and are hard to find (and thus expensive) now. There's some pretty good budget titles out there. Sheep is a lot of fun if you like Lemmings-like games. Gran Turismo is good as a racing sim, and pretty gorgeous. Check gamespot.com for more.

If you have people to play games with, then Worms: Armageddon is the best game you'll ever spend 20 bucks on.

Worms is such an awesome series. It is wonderous that it was created by a guy on an Amiga 1200 with a fear of a concrete donkey.

Thrasher: Skate and Destroy if you're into skating games with a drastically different feel from the hawk series. It came out just before THPS, and I play the game to this day.

Dave Mirra BMX is a great game.

DragonQuest VII is good if you're hardcore into rpgs.

Monster Rancher is pretty cool.

I've been playing the online fantasy multiplayer RPG Guild Wars (no monthly fees!) with a friend of mine and some friends of his. It's fun. You can also play it with computer teammates, but they're kinda dumb.

yeah, that was strange. they gave a name to a pairing of controllers? i'm still not sure i understand what this means or why they felt it was necessary. i'm still buying it though!

[edit] ok, so Wii is the new name of the system. it's not called the revolution anymore. gotcha.
