well, i found out some bad news today. the place that i really wanted to use for the venue has apparently closed. bummer. it would have been killer and affordable. the main rio theatre is an option but it's expensive and big (almost 700 seats). i'm going to look into other options in santa cruz, but we might want to at least consider other options, either in the south bay or the city. either way, i'm happy to commit to helping organize something in the bay area, and like i said, i'll keep looking at santa cruz options this week. this place is an idea, and has had some pretty good music on occasion, and it's a good size and right on pacific avenue. if we wanted to do it as a public event and promote it, i think it could be a good option. but not sure of any age restrictions.

That place seems pretty cool. Or, I know age restrictions would be a problem, but what about one of the bars, Red Room or something? Or maybe one of the coffee houses, rental halls or somewhere on the UCSC campus? Why don't we all just set up on Pacific, that would be fun! It sucks that the original venue idea is now closed, but if it has to be somewere else in the Bay Area, so be it. We would love to have it in Santa Cruz for sentimental reasons, but if it's not, we could always visit while we're out there (although Phil says we're not going unless it's in SC!). Please don't let this idea die, there's gotta be somewhere for us Songfighters to duke it out!

Yeah, I've already told all my friends that I'm going to Santa Cruz this summer damnit!

I've never been to California and YOU aren't going to ruin it for me!!!

:-)

Seriously...I hope we can work something out. I have still yet to meet you and would love for us to get together there on your stomping grounds.

Songfight LIVE Tampa just doesn't sound right.

Yeah, wasn't the new years resolution for Song Fight Live to actually have a venue ready more than a week beforehand?

Odds are most folks will fly into one of the three Bay Area airports anyway. So if we have to do the concert in San Francisco or somewhere, we could still take a field trip to Santa Cruz to hit the beach, etc. We'd probably be able to get everybody down there, between the Bay Area fighters with cars and the visitors with rental cars.

so one of the things i'd like to do in terms of finding a venue in santa cruz is to create a songfight demo CD that i could give out to club owners, as well as directing them to the site. obviously, i'd like it to be good, diverse, and representative of the folks that might show up. it could also be used to give out to the media if we wanted to make it a public event.

anyways, the point i'm trying to make is that if people would like to suggest any of their songs for such a thing, i could put it together. so if you think you would come and play at a songfight santa cruz show, and you'd like to suggest one of your songs for this demo comp CD, either post it in this thread or PM it to me. doing this implies that it's ok for me to give out free CDs with your song on it for the purpose of promoting a songfight live event and thats it.

I will be there, my family will likely join me (still mid August?), my sister will be there since she lives there. I doubt my brother will be there... he'll be in India.

As for a demo...Lavender Splendor, Zombie Son or Sunny Again (which will be live, damn it!)

The demo CD is an excellent idea. You can use any of my songs. 'fool in the middle' and 'sunny again' are less-sucky ones which I tend to perform live.

Me, my dad, mum, and brother will all most likely be there. The furthest west I've gone is the middle of Pennsylvania, so hurrah for Westward Expansion.

It's just his song, not mine. Only the live version is where I, uh, aid the performance. I promise I won't crack up at this SFL. :/
