I heard Turn on the Bright Lights about a hundred times when it was new, long before Antics came out. I dare say one of my favorite albums. It's hard to follow up on.

I'm currently listening to Elton John's new album, Peachtree Road. Through it twice, it's decent. Not great, but mediocre Elton John is better than, say, Nickelback at their best. There's no obvious standout, though. Maybe "All that I'm Allowed." And I'm liking "Too Many Tears," too, though for some reason I feel like that one ought to be a guilty pleasure.

I'm also listening to U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. Yeah, it's not out for another couple of weeks. Nobody turn me in, alright? But I'm enjoying it. Certain songs more than others. It's no All That You Can't Leave Behind. A couple of the songs just plain suck, but some of them are vintage U2. I don't suspect anyone here has heard this yet, so I won't make many specific references, but "Crumbs from your Table" sounds like a bizarre mash-up of "Electrical Storm" and "Walk On," in a way that annoys me. It's a good song, but there are those recycled lines.

Oh well. I'm also listening to a lot of Doctor Worm all of a sudden (I wonder why?) but that's for another thread.

I've listened to it even more. Holy fuck, it just hit me how great an album it is. It's a shame Antics really pales in comparison, but you're absolutely right, Turn on the Bright Lights is a very hard album to follow up on. Antics is certainly not too bad itself. The songs are eitehr just plain alright, or just plain great.

It's so much fun to play friends this song and see their faces contort in a mixture of confusion, enjoyment, and pain as they listen to those little guys.

This fits under the "guilty pleasures" category, but I was really enjoying listening to Daryl Hall's first solo album <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=music"> "Sacred Songs"</a> today.

It's kinda strange in spots, but I freeking love this album.

If you like Pink Floyd you'll love this. Alan Parsons was the engineer/Co-Producer on a lot of their albums including Dark Side. Excellent, and has aged well.

The Network (Money Money 2020)

-wow. What a fantastic little retro newwave Devo type Gary Numan stuff this is. Great find. Rumoured that Green Day is actually the nucleus, and after listening, I'm certain it is. Possibly a member of Devo involved as well, but that's not so clear from listening.

also, just picked up the latest album by Canadians The Rheostatics - 2067. Fantastic. Great musical moments by some icons of Canadian indie rock. Decidedly Rheostatics though, which are either loved or hated by most people, not much in the middle.

You know, that new U2 single just rocks... but I'm amazed how, as they age, bands like Metallica and U2, once polar opposites, continue to look and sound more and more like each other... kinda bizarre at first....

I would be listening to the new Tom Waits album, but when I opened it up, there was no cd inside.
