I didn't intend it as a jab. We've all been busted borrowing from influences that, in retrospect, seemed obvious.

Check out Berkley Social Scene's "Hollywood Wax." Then "My Sharona."

You are a moron. An octave riff does not a My Sharona make. Were you to recall Cygnus X-1 you would be closer to the source of the influence, however all 3 songs are rather different. (i love them all)

that's like saying all songs with flute sound like Jethro Tull

But apparently 11 notes from the melody of Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree a Downunder makes.

Y'don't have to have the mike in there in that airtight cup, that can be tweaked with a li'l distortion or amp modeling applied to the harp's track). Listen to the Walters (Big and Little).
Cool, you know about harp? We need to talk. I've never recorded harmonica before EVER in my life until "double Take" a few weeks ago and now this song. I never practice, so my only practice is ripping one out on a track like now. I'm one of those "cross that bridge when I come to it" kind of guys, lol. In fact, I've only owned a couple to play Neil Young songs. The whole playing to a drum beat and guitar riff is new for me. My son bought me these Hohners for Xmas. I'm playing into my "new" condenser mic. It has this hz roll off switch. I have it set for my vocals. I didn't change it for the harp. I'm guessing from your comments this is not the way I should do it.

Cool. Is a round an example of "contrapuntal harmonies"? I'm going to use that term a lot more in general conversation

I know just enough to suck, heh. (Stupid question...) Do you have a 57? Use that for the harp. Shove it up against the grille and close your hands over it. (Take it off the mike stand first ;)). Overdrive the fuck out of the signal and, mmmm, tasty.

Oh, and unless you're John Popper, stay on the left end of the comb (holes 1-6). And it's easier to mix, too, heh.

No - not now. I'm in that thing - what do they call it? Afternoon? That thing in between recovering from drinking last night and getting ready to start again.

Great, now I have a mash up of that Gum Tree song with Aqualung.
Lord knows that Songfight needs all the snazzy flute solos it can get.
Actually, I am scared to hear what might happen if that becomes a Nur Ein challenge.

It's a very specific example. It's basically anytime that the two voices are doing semi-unrelated things melodically (contrapuntal being the adjectival form of the noun "counterpoint"). You also happen to have the voice singing different lyrics most of the time, and that's cool too, but not completely necessary.

Anyway, terminology aside, you're really good at it.

Now I'm giggling too.

Niveous hasn't checked in yet, so I think it's a safe assumption that the results and the new title/challenge will not be posted until tomorrow.

Dear Judges,
For the sake of keeping on a schedule, doesn't it seem like a good idea to just post the new title and challenge regardless of the elimination results?

erin, you know the drill... heh. Someone's AWOL, and (now that we're both back on the other side again) the contestants have a rough night of sleep. Plus ça change, plus ça meme chose, heh.

Thanks for the enjoyable vocals, BTW.

Ha. My life story. Except unfortunately I don't get to wake up seeing kookaburras in old gum trees nor eat Vegemite sangwiches.

@ Rabz, I will use my sm57 on the the next song with harp, thanks. So stay on the low tones, huh? But I like those high tones. They get all strange sounding. I like strange. :P

Playing harp is the first time I can't double track! It's too hard to duplicate. I'd make you vomit if you knew what I did to fatten the "single" harp track, lol.

I'm with Rabz on this one, Chris. Use that SM57. You'll still get the highs, but you'll get the lows, too, and that will make the harp sound fuller-bodied.

Ha! So true Pat, Plus ça meme chose indeed!

I was just not prepared for such a torture yet, it only being round two and all. I am not sure how I manage to conveniently forget all of the frustration that comes along with this competition. This is my 4rth year of involvement,(one time judge , 3rd time competitor) and I still don't understand how the deadlines get missed by the judges.

I guess that all I can do in the meantime, is dramatically shake my clenched fist in the air, and make myself a drink too. Where's my whiskey jar?

Thanks for the compliment about my vox. I really enjoyed your track too. The lyrics were all heart melty, and just what a lady likes to hear from time to time.
Your percussion inspires me to want to do some more jazzy/old timey stuff with BSS, but I just don't think I can steer the boys in that direction. Not while they are fighting in the Nur Ein Army anyway. We'll see.
