Dashboard Confessional-- I think this is going to have a major influence on this week's SongFight...

The more I listen to The Downward Spiral the more I hear the influence of Prince.

I'm always about a half a year behind on hearing new music, but I'm really loving The Hold Steady's Boys and Girls in America.

Beirut - Gulag Orkestar
This is everything I had wished Hawk and a Hacksaw's stuff was like. Where HaaH gets lost in its noodling meanderings, Beirut manages to keep it changing in ways that keep it really interesting.
The Lon Gisland EP is also awesome.

I bought the album, and most of the songs are pretty good, though there are a couple that are pretty boring. Some have really inspired me because of how few lyrics they contain. One song just has the line "Oh, like an arrow, closer, closer" throughout, but somehow I still like it and don't find it boring or repetitive. Since I have a really hard time writing lyrics, I really like the idea of just writing a couple lines for a song, especially since a SongFight! title could dictate almost a whole line.

Rocking out to the first W.A.S.P. album. This was good shit back in 1984... I think I'm gonna do an ironic cover of "
