I think it depends on the song, and also on the music video that they made for the song. You're the Inspiration is what I wanted to do but it's been negged (albeit indirectly).

The video thing was just my shorthand method to figure things out, since most of us weren't there to see any of it first hand. Actually, go ahead. Roymond and Glenn are in charge of assigning me a Moboid-approved song. I spent about an hour working out a guitar arrangement for "Summer Breeze" that's pretty nice, but it's such an insipid song now that I get so close to it. I can't bring myself to practice it any more.

Glenn and Rachel did such a nice live rendition of our "Unless I Change My Mind", it's the least I can do.

I'm still going through things and have only hit about half of the episodes to catch directly referenced songs. Looking back through songs done by groups with already approved songs and some from the one-hit wonders link, I was curious about these...

- "Holdin' On To Yesterday", Ambrosia (from 1975...too early or not quite the right style?)
- "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight", England Dan & John Ford Coley (one of the songs from that one-hit wonder link)
- "A Love Song", Loggins & Messina (from 1973...it's Loggins & Messina but maybe too early of a 70's sound?)
- there was also a Pure Prairie League song on that list, but I wanted to confirm that "Amie" from 1972 is either too early or too country

I have plenty more to sort through, but I keep finding myself drawn to the songs that don't quite fit (like all the early folky/acoustic Loggins & Messina songs). At this point I would probably go with one of the above if approved. Otherwise, I am certainly open to suggestions if anyone has any ideas.

Fun fact that is pertinent but perhaps frightening:

If one were to stand in the doorway of my studio and peer inside, one would see twenty or thirty vinyl records leaning against the side of a small bookcase, waiting, as they have for years, to at least be considered for dubbing onto compact disc. The only album cover readable from across the room proclaims the artist in a delightfully tacky 70's font: Starland Vocal Band.

While I am not Moboid, my gut instinct tells me that Dr. Hook would absolutely depend on the material. "Cover of the Rolling Stone" isn't even close, while "Sharing the Night Together" is the epitome of Smooth.
