Two on the Futon and two in the bed with me!

OK...so thats not realistic. However, just FYI... if anybody really needs a place and just can't afford one, I do have a futon that can sleep one. (or two if its a 'couple' or whomever is not squeamish about sharing)

I'll warn anybody who wants to take me up on this right now, I have two cats and a very small apartment. I'll be glad to welcome you in my home, but you must realize that it isn't much and that you can't be allergic to kitties.

Well, I was gonna have them rotate after all.

I should mention that today is the floor plan walk through. I'm basically going to venue and having a walk through. We will decide on the table set up and where the music will be performed. (and another payment due)

Won't be attending unfortunately. Shame, cause it's only 3 hours away from where I am... But I'll be with all of you in.. um.. thought I guess...

Maybe next time around.

What's the deal here? You're not going to get an event any closer to you than this. If it would help at all, I could probably give you a ride. Or is it a conflict with work or something? You can reply here or PM me or whatever.

Oh, no no no... I could make the drive. Hell, I have a season pass to Busch Gardens, right down the road. It's all a matter of responsibilities and plans. I've got a heck of a lot going on during the course of the next three months, in addition to planning for a vacation to NYC something within all of that. Work would be a problem as well... especially if I find a new job soon, which I'm looking and hoping for.

I dunno... talking about it here makes me kinda want to rescind my decision and head down for a day anyhow. I'll have to see though.

Yeah he should... and him being a relative newcomer, the concept of the annual event being this close to him doesn't have a real hold. Especially since NEXT YEAR's event may very well be held in Spokane, Washington.

Ember, come on down for a day do0d. Its a real shame that this event isn't carrying the same head of steam that the past years have held and a songfighter as local as you are can't even make it!

No pressure, I understand life... just want to offer an extra welcome to a fellow Floridian.

Bill: :( Also unfortunate, its official, my band Ghost Town Gridlock has been back together and will be performing 'Hoblit' songfight songs for the event. The only Songfighter GTG fan will miss out! :(

Hey, I know Craig likes you guys too! There are at least two :)

Surely you can record the event and then post mp3s within a few years... ;)

Simple's my middle name! I'd totally love to play alongside you. This is what I'm talking about, peoples! :)
Alright so a month away, and I have picked out and rehearsing 3-4 songs I’ll end up playing.
Just need to re tab some of the small guitar leads, and bass lines to hand out to Paco within the next couple of weeks.

Paco, I’m willing to return the favor, but your stuff sounds fast and complicated (bass/guitar wise).
If you know of any additional instruments you’ll like to throw in like (mandolin, ukulele, melodica / keys, egg shaker, misc ?)
Let me know, I’ll love to help out, or anybody else.

Looking forward to Ghost town gridlock playing Hoblit’s songs, that’s going to FUCKING ROCK \m/.

When is the event Friday or Saturday evening?

Rat Poizon (Maybe but not probable)
Caravan Ray (Maybe but not probable/verge of not making it)

Spud (can't make it)
Jim Tyrell (can't make it)
Frankie BF (can't make it)
Embers of Autum (Floridian, can't make it)
Andy - other BeWell (can't make it)
Bill (can't make it)

Updated list as it stands.

Paying second (of three) payment on venue today.

In order to further organize the event I'll have to solidify line-up for acts.

So far its: (and in no particular order)
Andre @ Midnight
The Lord of Oats
Jack Shite (ASSUMING)
Ghost Town Gridlock (Hoblit - Which, barring another full act will probably headline)

Paco, have you changed your mind about not playing your own set?
Currently this one night live event will give each act an hour of play time.

Jack, thanks for your support.

Also, if it doesn't sound too weird or creepy, I STILL have a futon open for a poor and tired traveler if Bjam (or anybody) is even the least bit interested in that route. I'm not pushing for that, I'm not necessarily even suggesting that, but it IS a possibility if it came down to that.

It ain't much, tiny apartment, two cats... just FYI.

ok, here's an update.

i'm like 95% coming. i just checked the airlines and the price has actually GONE DOWN since i last checked a couple weeks ago. i've also been looking into places to stay but haven't settled on that yet. I want to get the flight nailed down first. like i said, i hope to have it all wrapped up this weekend.

my general plan is to pull what i'll call a "spud" (meaning i know spud did this once and it was impressive). i'm going to try to take a red-eye on Friday night, get there saturday morning sometime, hang out, do the show and party, and fly back on Sunday. that way, i'll only need to get a room for one night (saturday), and if that's the case, i won't mind getting a nicer room. i think spud did one better once, coming to san francisco and flying in, doing the show, partying, flying out next morning, only he didn't have a place to stay and i don't believe he slept on that trip (one of the SF presents shows, i think it was the one Front played). so he's a bigger stud. ;)

i'd stay with you chris but figured i'd leave that option open to someone poorer. like bjam. hope you make it!

and you too JB!

cmon, rally round this. viva la songfight!

ok, another update: I just reserved a room on August 16th at the Hampton Inn, which seems to be within short walking distance of the Ritz. Hopefully, they'll have some sort of airport shuttle, or I guess I'll cab it. I figured it would eb good to get some place close to the venue so I can just stagger back that night. :)

Looking like definitely no at the moment. There was always a flicker of hope that if my house sold quickly - I would have enough cash in my pocket to do something silly like fly to Florida for the weekend - but still no buyers. Looks like we may have to take it off the market and put tenants in to help us pay the mortgage. Curse you Americans and your global credit crisis causing ways!!![/shakes fist]. Total bummer really - everything else work and personal wise would have allowed me to come, and while I do have plenty of money in theory - just until somebody actually signs that sale contract - I can't get any of it and all I have is a mountain of debt.

If that is actually there, then it would be impossible to stay any closer to the venue. Also, if that is actually there they built it last week or something. Perhaps I exaggerate but it has to be brand new.

EDIT: went and found it on google maps ... ha ha..., Click on Street view and swing the camera angle 360 to the opposite corner.

I. I'm probably looking for a drummer for my set. Vegetarian Rage would have come and played drums for me (and whomever else, I'd say), but he could only make it on one of the last two weekends of the month, and no one listened when I requested one of those for the show date, and it's obviously a bit late to do anything about that now.

I probably have a local bass player/high school friend available, but I do have to check with him on the dates. I'm hoping to start a band with this fellow, anyway, so...if that doesn't work out, um...Paco, I'd be honored if you'd consider the position.

II. I'll help with anyone's set.

I'd be willing to drum for others, but I don't think I could do it for myself...because...I'm supposed to sing too, I think. And that wouldn't work. I'm semi-alright, but count me out if consistently accented upbeats are your thing, or kick drum patterns with a bunch of e's and a's. So I guess you'd probably be better off with me on guitar or bass. But I fear that we have too many guitar players coming. I can do simple crap on keyboards, too, or, you know, whatever.

III. My lady friend and I have an apartment in Gainesville, with two couches in the living room. If asked nicely, she might let a weary traveler or two stay a night or two. We're just about 130 miles north of Tampa, so we may or may not get a hotel there. I guess we'll see about that as more details are clear to me. So someone could perhaps stay here for their entire stay, or come a bit early and stay on their way down, then go to Tampa the day of show or something...see what I'm getting at...it's up to you...and us. This option probably makes more sense for someone traveling down I-75 from the northlands than for an air traveler. But you know, whatever.

IV. My set? Um does anyone have any of my songs that they like? I mean I'm willing to take requests, if they're asked for in advance. Because, you know, I would need to learn to how to play them. My songs, songs by songfighters or popular artists, or, you know, whatever. If I don't hear anything, I'm just picking all the easy ones.

OAT's, i usually like a lot of your entries, I'll take a listen to your catalog and make some recommendations.
but also, a good friend of mine lives in Gainesville and am constantly visiting him. i wont be back in Orlando til like 7/29,
but if you want to meet up any of the weekends between then and the event, and try to jam out to some of the songs, i'll be cool with it.

Image mmm, so what room did you get jack? the one with or without a door ?

Well, for the record I tried to find a date that would accommodate as many people as possible and it looked like @ the time that the particular weekend I (WE) chose was promising. One of my last decisions on the date was based on Weakest Suit's availability. Funny how that works eh?

To make it up to you I MIGHT be able to play drums for your set but the same rules you set apply here. I am only decent at the very basic level.
