Hey so been practising my set list and it occurs to me that there's lots of references to faeces, threesomes, transvestism, drugs, gay sex and being set on fire (which is my lyrical wont) is anybody bringing kids / people likely to take offence? I want to know if I need to wear my sprinting shoes ... :)

I think you'll be okay, J$. Have you ever seen a Niveous set list? At SF:Brooklyn, I ended my set with a song about a woman who meets guys online, has sex with them on video tape and kills them, written from the point of view of her boyfriend, who is in the backyard digging graves.

(no dairy for Bill) It's a tremendous place for a picnic so I'll be bringing muchies. As Oats has pointed out, my tastes tend to be on the yuppie side (WTF?) so bring your own junk food.
Oh, I knew it was going to be an acoustic...I just didn't know if that meant amplified acoustic. Hmmm, I guess I better learn how to belt out a tune.

So who's bringing munchies?

Is anyone bringing a chair or are these all going to be stand up performances?

OK well if I see a group coming across the park with burning torches, I'm standing behind you :)

PS Ukuleles are strapless so I play much better sitting down. i kind of assumed that there'd be some kind of seatage in the pagoda anyway, even just a bench round the lip but if not, I can and will play standing up. It will just sound even worse - tant pis, i'll struggle on (somewhat) manfully.

PPS I am now reaching peak velocity of anxiety / excitement. As you can probably tell.

I'll bring seats and munchies. I may also need to borrow a guitar as mine is being repaired and may not be ready.

Hmmm, I'm trying to figure out a setlist. Are their any Niv songs that scream out..."Hey I'd like to hear that live"?

I enjoyed your performance of Cute Boots quite a bit last January.

I will need to borrow a guitar as well. And a capo, if someone has one. And not one of those old timey elastic capos, a modern new-fangled one that I actually know how to put on the guitar. I can bring my own, I guess. If there's a music stand there, I would use it.

My 4.y.o daughter is coming, but references to faeces, threesomes, transvestism, drugs, gay sex and being set on fire pretty much sums up your average My Little Pony TM DVD. And she's from New Zealand. So, you know....

Are other kids coming? Roy, Niv - are you both bringing the little tackers?

Nope. With the two shows, it would be too long a day for the kinderlings.

I'll be bringing mine but it's perennially tuned down a step and kinda crappy. It's perfect for my musical madness but it may not be for everyone. Y'all may wanna move up to a more stylish model.

Is someone bringing a music stand?

Uh, it kinda sounds like we're going to have no guitars and no music stands for the afternoon performance right now, guys, with Niveous's "perennially downtuned" guitar and Roy's being in the shop-- you guys are the locals we're counting on to provide the instruments, aren't you? I don't currently plan to bring my acoustic guitar on the airplane.

We should have at least two acoustics to play on, or it's going to be just a picnic and not so much a hootenanny.

This...I did not know. Okay, my "downtuned" acoustic is fine. I was just downplaying it because I know other people have better guitars but it's plays perfectly fine. As for a second guitar?

As for a music stand....it may take a little work but it could be scrounged up.

Really, I thought this was more of a everybody brings some stuff affair. Musical potluck, if you will. But if you guys are counting on us locals, I'll see what I can do.

Sorry Niv, but that's how it seems to me. There's just a few of you guys up there who can have a guitar, I think Frank's driving so maybe he'll bring one. But most of the rest of us are coming from way far away, or don't play guitar (like Elaine I think). :)

If we just have a small foldable table or something, that can serve as a music stand. Dunno if anybody has a cheap wire folding music stand...

i'll bet there's quite a few pawn shops in NYC, from which you might be able to procure a cheapish acoustic guitar. or a cheap music stand. everyone could kick in the price of a beer each and have a community guitar.

better yet, get everyone to throw in a couple bucks for it, then at the end of the show, JB gets to smash it all up in true songfight logo fashion. :)

My flights are set. The "and Friends" boys are rehearsing our set.
I will arrive in New York Sunday morning, take a train down to Jersey for a crash course rehearsal with the band. Then we'll come up for the Sidewalk Cafe electric gig.
I have a Monday morning flight from JFK at 7am to Boston (where my work is, that is funding this trip).
What I haven't squared away yet is that nap I'm going to take from 1 Am to 430Am.
Any recommends on hotels near the show or near JFK?
Should I just pound coffee for 3 hours at a diner?
This will be a whirlwind, but I'm very excited for the show!
I'm sorry i can't make the acoustic set, I hope someone takes video.
I have my Hard Drive camcorder for the electric set.
I also have a DVD that Roymond, Niveous, Charcoal, Heuristics and Jim T will be interested in (only one copy), I need to figure out who to give that to. Preferably someone with DVD duplication abilities.

See you guys soon!

Glen

I'll have an electric/acoustic guitar with me, and I can pack a music stand as well.

I've got a show up here in NH Saturday night, so it looks like we'll be heading out for NYC at daybreak on Sunday. That should put us in town in time for the acoustic show. That's the plan, anyway.

That's helpful Jim, thanks. I could bring my guitar--just didn't think it would be necessary. Plus, I probably won't be staying for more than a couple of hours, so I don't think mine can be the "community guitar." I will already be pulling a suitcase by the time of this gathering because I will have had to check out of my hotel and don't plan to go back before getting on Amtrak to go home. I don't know--I'll think about bringing it. I really just expected Roy or Niv would have one.

I'll try and help facilitate people as best as I can. I don't have the best equip around but I'm willing to let people use what I have to get the show to work.

I'm more concerned about the munchies. :) Everyone chip in and let's get some grub.

No problems there, happy to chip in. And I will more than happy with Roymond's yuppie food. I'm a yuppie food sort of guy myself.

Hey Folks,

I've been completely MIA on the board, basically just booking the gig, but now that the date is approaching I'm really getting pumped...it's going to be a fun show! There's an 8pm act that was booked previously, and then starting at 9, the night is ours to do with as we please. I've got 5 mics, a drums set, guitar amp, Sansamp bass input and plenty of additional DIs. We also have a DVD and projector if you want to bring visuals along. Sunday nights are my night to do sound, so I'll be running the board. We can record the sets to CD as well...there's normally a charge for this but I'll obviously be able to work something out. There is a drink minimum at the club, which keeps us afloat, so kindly order a coffee/beer/etc. The menu is actually really good and affordable: burgers and comfort food.

I probably won't check the board again, but if you have any questions, contact me here: info AT sidewalkmusic.net
