You're heading in the right direction, sir, and please, I am only 1/6th of the voting public, so don't adjust for me alone - but the South London jury want all that loveliness packed into a 2.30 wallop. Then, I fear, you would be unbeatable. Your ear for a melody and its harmonic arrangement is too strong to be diluted. IMO.

Heh. For years and years I always tried to blend things together making a canvas of sound, I think is a good term instead of a wall of sound. You know, colors all blended (or smushed) together forming a whole. But in my SF! years, I've always been trying to learn and practice separation in my mixes, attempting clarity of instruments. Maybe this is part of the sterile sound. Also, I'm sure, is my drumming. I try hard to not be sloppy and end up whittling down the beat to stiff patterns. While I'm no drummer, I'm a lot looser when just messin' around. I also tend to double up parts, "All Hail..." no exception. They got to be tight to work, right? Anyway, enough public analyzing. Thanks for the perspectives, people.
As said, it really doesn't matter, the song is bad ass. ;)
It certainly is, and the judges' vote, I believe, reflect that. And short-notice collabs are what they are. For me, my grumpy criticisms are intended to help, even if they don't come across that way. I loved the fact that my hardest judging decisions this round were in which order to put my top three and how I would justify to myself the bottom 4. Means good songs all round, people.

Don't get complacent though - I'm gunnin' for all you bastids come round 4 ...

So continue on with round 4, even though eliminated?

That's the idea. I know Nur Ein used to do this before, but I don't see a specific place to drop shadow songs. In SpinTunes, they just put them labeled appropriately with the rest of the judged songs. I'm guessing Niveous could do that here as well so people could listen, but the judges wouldn't rank them.

I bit more feedback for you all: I burnt my friend Scott a bunch of tunes from the first three rounds and he thinks you are all brilliant. His favourite track is Chokehold Princess' Looking Glass. He wants to learn to play it on his ukulele. Ben, do you mind telling me what the chords are so I can pass them on to him? Please. He also loves WreckdoM. Just though you'd like to know that.

If we could go on a world tour we'd probably just skip it and spend 3 weeks down under instead.

Nearly forgot Frankie's review. Probably unwanted but I don't want anyone feeling left out here, so...

Frankie Big Face: The extended outro in particular is cool here, I don't know what that sound is but whatever it is that sounds like pots and pans is cool. I get the Flips references, particularly reminds me of "In the Morning of the Magicians". I like the sonics in general, not sure how I'd feel if the song was stripped back to it's basic chords and lyrics.

Yeah, this isn't really the kind of song I can pull out for an acoustic gig probably. Relies a bit too much on the colors but that's what made it fun. And of course I want your review! Thanks!!

F! I just realized that I hadn’t put out reviews for All Hail the Snake. Time for the super fast giant stream of conscious paragraph of doom.

Wreckdom brought a version of their round 2 wackiness but it lacked the same charm but there are some interesting things going on here musically. The Tydon Docks’ song didn’t work for me. The croc hunter bits didn’t elevate the song any. The guest was almost nonexistent. I liked the Margaret Thatcher joke but this is the weakest song I’ve heard from C-Ray in a while. Ross brought a little Americana and stole his brother’s role as SF’s resident horn section. I liked the “Keep your head down” section, a very nice guest spot. I liked the choice of writing about the Gadsden flag. This song is growing on me. Paco brought the Hell Yeahs. Best choice of guest. Damn this song is good. It had the fiancé and I rocking out over the weekend. This round’s swagger has a first name, it’s H-E-A-T-H-E-R. Merisan brings a touch of Latin flavor which they are apt to do from time to time. Not a fan of gravel voice Sam. Always a fan of Erin’s voice. Starts off a little sleepy but wakes up some as the song progress. I kinda dig it but not my favorite Merisan song. Manhattan Glutton’s vocals were not his strongest and the music was not appealing. I really disliked this greatly. IV used sing-talking vocals and they really made the song feel flat. The song got better when he actually sang but it’s wasn’t a very great vocal overall. Anyone else think that he sounded a little like Jon Eric? Gov Dyn just needs to polish this song up. He does 90’s alternative pop radio so well and I dig the Marianne Faithful sounding duet. This just needed some tightening up all over and it’ll be worthwhile. Gov Dyn, don’t give up on this song. FBF went for ethereal and ambient. Not a fan of the singing from deep in a well sound of the vocals. Kinda like the Zero-7 meets Flaming Lips sound of the music but it sits in the middle of my pack. DJ Ranger Den brought a phantasmagoria about boys having to deal with the mysterious wonders of the penis. This ended up on the bottom of my rankings because it fails my number one scoring criteria- would I listen to this over and over. Sure, it’s high concept but it lacks replay value. Chokehold Princess song was cute. Clearly cute was what he aimed for and bullseye. Cavedwellers’ verses weren’t very interesting. The chorus was far more appetizing. I do like the “How ya been, harlequin” line. I hate the “Replace you with another Darren” line. Musically well put together by Escandon/Phillips. Carlo Bruno Jr brought energy and I love that vocal. The chant at the end was pretty nifty. One of my favorite songs of the round. BYD did a tribute to Snake Plissken. Good idea but bad execution. The lyrics are weak and the rest is mostly movie clips and a sleepy chant. On the positive, I liked the keyboard work. I think I would like a very over the top electronic BYD. A Boffo Daft Punk, if you will. Balance Lost had one of my favorites and not just because it had a pro-wrestling reference. Damn that chorus is catchy. The song has a very high replay value for me.
