Whoops - I never told you what I think of them!
Pinkerton - Amazing album. I wasn't sure what to think at first, since the mixing is really raw. The songs are really brilliant, and there isn't a stinker in the bunch.
Make Believe - I can kind of see why hardcore weezer fans hate this - It's not really a weezer album. However, I can say this - it's still a pretty solid album.
Lateralus - I like it, but it's no fun to listen to while cruising - and that's the only time I have to listen to music anymore. It has a really original sound.

Subsonica - Discolabirinto. A great Italian electronic-rock band.

Weezer's "Pork and Beans" video is insanely cool for lame internet people like me.
Randomly got way back into:
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra - Ska Evangelists on the Run
Rip Slyme - Tokyo Classic
... and some assorted Rhymester.

I really enjoyed that one too. They seem to make a lot of fun music videos.
On that note - Red Album in two days, people! Be there.

Woah, that was like 2006 in video format. About half way through I was thinking "What's next, an 'All Your Base' reference?". And then there was one.

Yeah, some of the references were a bit old, but I still liked it a lot. At least you can tell they're all having a good time - not enough good times are had in the biz these days, especially when it comes to music videos.

Great album. 'Living Through Another Cuba', 'Sargeants and Majors' all excellent songs, beginning to end!

I just bought ...
Weezer
Weezer
(red and green albums) All I have left now is Maladroit.
Red Album is great so far - it sounds more like weezer than Make Believe, but I'm going to have to listen to it more to make a final decision.

I listened to the Red Album all the way through - here's what I think.
Troublemaker to Pork and Beans are fantastic. Heart Songs had me worried for a bit, but a wonderful moment of dynamic goodness saved it. Everybody Get Dangerous was surprisingly good at parts. Dreamin', Thought I knew and Automatic weren't too memorable, but from what I remember, they were pretty good. Cold Dark World was interesting. The Angel And The One is possibly my new favorite Weezer song.
I guess what I really like about this album is its eclecticism. It's got its ballsy arena rock moments, but a thousand other sounds as well. The songs by the other members aren't quite as solid, and Automatic didn't really fit the album, but they were still solid songs.
Great job, Weez. You still got it.
EDIT: The Greatest Man That Ever Lived is incredible - forgot to mention that.

I've been listening to "The Kicking Machine", off the new Melvins album, virtually over and over. I'm still not sick of it. Goddamn I love this fucking song.

the pricing on this album is all over the place.
amazon.com had it for $5.99 today and the deluxe edition for $11.99.
bestbuy.com also had the deluxe for $11.99 and had in store pick up (which i opted for).
after i picked it up, i walked around a bit and saw that they were selling the same cd i just paid $11.99 for on the shelves for $16.99. because i bought it ahead of time from the internet, i paid $5.00 less than anyone who bought it directly from the store. how is that right? they also have a Weezer AOL sessions DVD that says PROMOTIONAL ITEM, NOT FOR SALE on it that they are selling for $5.99.
more on topic, new band-of-the-moment for me: noodles.

Indie j-rock girl band noodles?!
If so you are the only person I've found to discover them not through me.

i ordered ELECTRIC RAYS, which is a compilation of unreleased songs by bands on the label owned by the pillows singer, and they are on it along with two new pillows songs (even though they are on a different label???) and three other bands. the entire cd is great (as is the new pillows single: NEW ANIMAL). i'm even more disappointed that the pillows did not play chicago in march because they had noodles touring with them.

I can't get enough of Handlebars. Simple, but genius. I love it.

Yeah, they seem politically motivated and aware of important world issues. It's always nice to see songs written well and with a message.

Hey, that is pretty good. The Black Witch D/L link isn't working. I'll try it later.
Thank you, The.
