I don't know if this makes me a red-ragging commie, or maybe just an out-of-touch old fart - but that's the look I really find disturbing.

I watch the lastest hits on Saturday morning TV - and the fact that 80% of the film clips look almost identical - with the bling and the cars and the boats and the fur coats is quite bizarre.

Still, I would like to go this "Compton" place they speak of. It must be a land of wonders where the streets are paved with gold.

I believe we had the exact same thing here, but it was thongs on bogans, not hats on rappers. I believe what we call thongs, you Americans call flip-flops.

You guy's call flip-flops thongs? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

Anyway...

"Bogan" is a derogatory Australian slang term for somebody who is perceived as being an unfashionable "lower-class" person, typically of British Isles ancestry and living in deprived urban areas. Or, as PiGPEN would say, "Niggers".

Well - we are downunder...

I was once intrigued to hear an American speak of a girlie bar where the waitressess wore "nothing but thongs". I figured the floors must have been dirty and they didn't want to get tinea.

BTW: what you call a "thong" - we call a G-string

It's quite interesting to me that both the Aussie and American definitions for "Thong" involve something wedged between two places.

I think "bogan" is really only a Victorian or South Australian word.

In Sydney - those people are called "Westies"

Up here in beautiful Queensland - we call those people "Victorians" or "South Australians". Hard to tell - they all look the same to me.

We don't talk about those in Queensland at all.

look closely at this Google map and you will see "Marree Man" - a big picture that was drawn into the SA desert by some blokes with a tractor

I can't remember the last time I talked about Australia. That can't be good, you guys are too quiet down there on your island. You must be up to something...

Ah yes, the good ol Marree Man. Really, they still don't know who made him. Popular theories are
- man with tractor and a good sense of direction
- US troops having a muck around
- aliens

Unpopular theories are
- giant spray can wielding youths
- fuel prices
- John Howard
- aliens

That's very true - but with one notable exception - The Hilltop Hoods.
The rest, as far as I can tell are truly bloody awful.
