Juice is a tough call. If you watch the video, it scores high on the Yacht Quotient, but nevertheless it's very low in Ineffable Yachtiness. I'd have to say no.Mostess wrote:Shit. I'm listening to Juice now, and I forgot how hard it rocks. It seriously rocks. Damn it. Speedboat rock, maybe. No yacht.
We may still ding in for "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts, which we hate, but with a gentle and compassionate sort of hate.
This one would work; I haven't had a chance to hunt down the others yet. And it seems like a good fit for you, given that the singer Dan Seals went on to great success on the country charts, in the late 80s.bwell wrote:Looking back through songs done by groups with already approved songs and some from the one-hit wonders link, I was curious about these...
- "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight", England Dan & John Ford Coley (one of the songs from that one-hit wonder link)

I don't know how I missed that...I thought he somehow looked familiar. I had his '87 "The Best" on vinyl. Go ahead and put me down for "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight".moboid wrote:This one would work; I haven't had a chance to hunt down the others yet. Thank you, Cap'n! Glad to be of service.moboid wrote:First Mate GlennCase clearly knows his Hook...GlennCase wrote:While I am not Moboid, my gut instinct tells me that Dr. Hook would absolutely depend on the material. "Cover of the Rolling Stone" isn't even close, while "Sharing the Night Together" is the epitome of Smooth.Me$$iah wrote: what about Dr Hook??
That Juice video is hilarious! I can't believe she didn't bump into the oboist and string section in the park. They had to be right near the band. I'm so bummed it's not yachy (edit: yachty) enough, but I agree that it's not.moboid wrote:Juice is a tough call. On the other hand, Summer Breeze is PERFECT... the title itself screams Californian Nautical, and this video puts it off the charts. If you can handle the insipidity...
mp3?jimtyrrell wrote:Does "Escape" by Rupert Holmes qualify? If so, I'll do that.
more popularly, "the pina colada song." if you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain, etc.Jefff wrote:mp3?jimtyrrell wrote:Does "Escape" by Rupert Holmes qualify? If so, I'll do that.
He was also part of a band called "Street People" who had a minor hit in 1970 with a song called "Jennifer Tomkins". (A song I played on episode 12 of the House of Delusions Podcast.)jimtyrrell wrote:I don't have an mp3, but I'll try to find one. I did find this on cassette over the weekend though. Turns out he did an equally cheesy tune called "Him" that I remembered from the radio.
This is probably the closest Steve Miller ever got to Yacht Rock, but I think it's a little too much Rock and not enough Rock. The keyboard waters are a bit too choppy throughout to be considered smooooooth.roymond wrote:Did anyone take Steve Miller's "Abracadabra"? Is this valid? Cause I'd like to go there.

Dude that is far too ROCK to be smoooooooooooth. Cool song, but I would wager that the Cap'n can not approve that one. Not for this fight anyway.jack wrote:how about bob welsh's ebony eyes?
that video from Cal Jam is pretty scary. stevie nicks, as great as she looks, is waaaay too hyped up for 8am. must have pulled an all night coke bender....
OK, I never heard about Todd Rundgren picks ("Hello, It's Me" and "Can We Still Be Friends"), but where would Captain and Tennille's "Do That to Me One More Time" sit?GlennCase wrote:This is probably the closest Steve Miller ever got to Yacht Rock, but I think it's a little too much Rock and not enough Rock.
