Dre: You're definitely welcome to recommend songs, especially if you're going to be in the band! I'm fine with a power trio, but of course, there's certainly nothing wrong with a bigger band. Perhaps you'd like to play acoustic guitar for my set, and maybe aux percussion or keys on some tunes?

ha, it's like the nightmare travel commercials you see on expedia or travelocity.

damn, that place better be there! i guess i'll call them this weekend.....

ha, that big brick building caddycorner across the street from the building under construction is the Hampton Inn. spin hob's link 180 degrees....

another view of it from the little park you can see in hob's pic...

To make it up to you I MIGHT be able to play drums for your set but the same rules you set apply here. I am only decent at the very basic level.
Yeah, I know it's difficult and a lot of work to organize an event, and I appreciate that you're doing it and stuff. So I didn't mean to sound to complainy. Thank you for the offer. You are officially being considered for the position...if you want it.

OH GOOD... I'll add it to the list under lodging links on the sfhs page. I wonder how long that building has been a Hampton Inn... I never realized it was there and it didn't come up in my original searches. (that part of the strip doesn't have a lot of foot traffic compared to everything past that iron arch showing in the 'street view') Hillsborough Community College has a local campus in Ybor City and I bet thats handy for visiting parents.

well, i got my hotel confirmation in my email, so it better be there!

the room ran me about $100. and the best part is i can stagger back drunk!

also, don't try to book through the web travel sites (expedia, orbitz, travelocity) as it will tell you it's full, but i booked it direct through hampton inn's website and got a reservation.

ok d00d, i just got my plane ticket. i'm coming to tampa!

slight change of plans, i'm getting in friday night now (no cheap red eyes, and there was no way i was taking a 6am flight back sunday) so now i've gotta find a place to stay friday night. i might just stay near the airport friday night and catch you guys saturday. i'll be pretty wiped out since i have an early flight from san jose and i'll want to get my beauty sleep for saturday. i fly back sunday late afternoon.

so now i need some songs. and maybe a band. and maybe a spare guitar.

ray...no santa pub crawl. :(

maybe next year.

Practices will be available on Friday from about 10:00am all the way up to 9:00pm (SHARP) @ Bread Box Studios, AKA Hoblit's Hideaway I.E. my apartment.
&
Again on Saturday from 11:00am to 3:00pm (SHARP) @ Bread Box Studios, AKA Hoblit's Hideaway I.E. my apartment.

@ 3:00pm on Saturday we will start packing up and heading over to the Venue for set up. The gig should run from about 6:00 to 11:00pm although we have from 4:30 to 12:30 to be in and out...so it can start a little early and run a little late.

12:30 and being out of the event, Ybor City still has 2 1/2 hours of life left in it and those who like to party will be able to appreciate that. (Again, Ybor City is just a historic district of Tampa with a plethora of night life.)

Thats the run down. I'm open to suggestions though. I want to get a few posters made and if I don't hear from anybody else I will go with what I got. (including Jack as a definite now) The list in my last post won't necessarily be the line-up so if anybody actually WANTS to be first, please speak up.

DOOOOOD! I can wait a week even!

If you can't make it you will be forgiven but man, it tickles me to death at the idea of you comin' to my city!

Again, I can't thank Jack enough for his support and Paco for being just as enthusiastic. It warms my heart and I have to make a shout out for the low key Dre who has been behind this all the way.

yes, jeff and erik, hope you can make it. and JB too. and bjam! keep the momentum going....

also, we could use my room on saturday afternoon before the show (check in is 3 i think) as an alternate acoustic practice space. also as an after hours party space since it's within walking distance. if any of you guys are coming, do check out hampton inn's website, the place seems to have gotten good reviews and the price is good.

i'd prefer not to bring any instruments, but i could bring a guitar if i needed to.

I have to update the equipment page soon because we are going to lose some pledged equipment however I can assure you that there will be at least one electric guitar, one electric bass guitar, and one 12 string acoustic guitar. I do have another electric guitar but its a Fender squire POS. There may also be a hollow body electric for use @ the actual gig.

Bread Box Studios has everything that will also be at the gig including P.A. microhones, drums, etc...

Not to rain on the after party at your place ...it may prove to be an after AFTER party... unless some folks who don't really want to bar hop after the show want to meet you over there. Ybor City is one big after party on Saturday nights.

yeah, i'll end up getting a room for sat night as well, maybe that Hampton.
and yes i am trying to get my sister and her party FSU friends to come down as well, along with some other friends from the area.

I'm an hour and a half drive away, so i'll take some gear as well, and just leave whats not needed in the car.

OATs: i can meet you in gainesville the weekend of 8/2 and or 8/9 to try and work on some of the songs.
keeping my participation to a simple minimum like: melodica / keys, misc percusion, 2nd guitarist, simple bass lines, or mandolin.
i like some of the synth keyboard sounds from your songs, so it be cool if you can pull it off live.
here's some songs i like.

A Friendly Reminder
A Problem of Perspective
Ease Up On The Drugs
God's Thumb
How Much Will You Give Me?
Mr. Sandwich
Night Terrors
Thank God for Memphis winner
The Last Year
Tomato

and dude, you have to play at least one song with oven Mints!

hey hobs, we're gonna get our names on the big marquee right? or at least a "Songfight! Live Hot & Sweaty" put up there would be cool. We'd have to get a picture of that!

also, i have an idea for a t-shirt design. it's pretty simple and funny. we each take a white hanes beefy t (or something similar) and get some fat sharpies and we draw our own when we get there. and of course, the official live t-shirt will have to be sleeveless in honor of the host.... :)

1. No, it costs and extra $100 or so to get that done so I have not opted for that option.
(I inquired about it again though and they've been REALLY nice to me and gave us a bartender at cut rate so we'll see.)

2. I'm not opposed to T-Shirts but I have not really entertained the idea.
Now that there is some momentum...I'm much more willing to consider it but again we are going to be a bit limited on cash. I'm not a HUGE fan of Cafe Press, but we could go that route if we had to. We're at 30 days out right now.
