Dumbrella is a webcomic collective that hosts or used to host a number of popular high-traffic webcomics, such as Scary-Go-Round, Wigu, and the now-syndicated Diesel Sweeties. They also hosted Explodingdog, whose concept was similar to Narbonic's original gimmick: you supply the title, Sam Brown draws a picture to it. In this manner did we get some of our early cover art:
120 MPH

Next Question (sort of a follow-up):
Which Songfighter appeared as a character in one of these comics?

Probably drew or Narbotic. I found Dumbrella because drew linked to explodingdog (from his old corrupt.net blog thing) and from there I found Narbotic and Song Fight.

Also don't forget that Red Robot and 1000 Robots were both tie-ins with explodingdog.

was that the fight where, for each entry, he donated $10 towards John|m's new drumkit?
fluffy wrote:Cookie for Jon. That was the john|m donation run, although I think it was $5/entry.
It was supposed to have been $10 per entry. And the money (I think it ended up near $100 altogether) was to have gone towards new drum heads for Dr. Worm (John M), because Blue complained that the ones he was using sounded like he was hitting "bed sheets". I don't know if John ever got the money.

I vaguely remember Glennnn & Bolio being up on stage with y'all at 2005's Octothorpe and Friends show in Seattle. Or Jim of Seattle had slipped something into my drink and I was hallucinating, heh.

Was it really 2005? That's, like, forever ago.

I assume he did. Blue did numerous sidefights involving prizes, and he came through each other time, so I don't see why he'd flake out on this one.

Speaking of which...
What was the prize in Blue's first sidefight?

Can you provide an approximate date for that? Because it's not the answer I was thinking of.

Last night it suddenly came to me that it was Bolio, I was hoping nobody else had gotten there yet this morning.
Yes I'm a dork.

I guess the final member must have been... Ken?

I'm interested to see the answer about the rock thing, because I wasn't aware there was actually more to the story than what you already said ("bring the rock").

The "Song Fight! Survivor" gearfight had a $5 entry fee which was to have gone to the winner. The $20 was won by Sober. I know he complained for many, many months that he didn't get it. One can only assume that he eventually did?

Q: From the original four competitors (Sober Irishman, Frontalittle Squad, Diathetic Obfuscation, and C Hack), the Song Fight! Survivor fight had an immunity challenge for each of the first two eliminations, followed by a vote to determine the winner between the final two. Name either of the two immunity challenges. Hint: Jon Eric figured prominently in both.

Great question!

It was Johnny Cashpoint, in "Scissor Kick."

one of them was to repeat the words "jon eric" for 20 minutes or something ridiculous like that... sober posted the mp3. it was very boring. i considered putting a drumbeat to it but that idea got left alone.

It's been a day and a half, so I'll go ahead and tell the rest.

Challenge #1 was to submit a picture of Jon Eric as the last brick in a civilization, or something like that. There were a couple of pictures of my face photoshopped into the strangest places.

Challenge #2 was to submit an mp3 of yourself chanting "Jon Eric" continuously for longer than any of the others. Sober, I guess, overestimated his competition, and turned in an mp3 of himself saying my name for something like an hour. He won the immunity handily; no one else even tried. He did so as he wandered around his room, made himself lunch, etc. I listened to the whole thing and laughed my butt off, but I can see how it would be boring if it wasn't your name.

The reason blue did all that was because I had, a couple of weeks prior, picked a fight with him. I accused him of going soft, and being too nice. This put blue is a weird situation, because either he would say something horribly mean (as he was wont to do back then), thereby giving in to what I wanted of him, or he would have to admit to becoming an old softie.

These challenges were a pretty genius way of getting around it, if you ask me. I bet he had other ones in mind, but there were only four entries, so we only got to see the two challenges.

A brick in an empire of bricks. It was a reference to the Silent E song "So Kind Stacey" which Blue was not a fan of.

"The last brick in an empire... of bricks" was the challenge. "Another brick to build the empire" was the referenced lyric.

Also, I believe part of the second challenge included counting (aloud) the number of "Jon Eric"s, to prove that none of it was looped (i.e. "Jon Eric One, Jon Eric Two, Jon Eric Three").

Bill, Jon Eric, and Ernie get to divide a cookie amongst themselves. Enjoy.

I'm reasonably certain that Jack's answer is wrong, unless blue was giving stuff away before I got here. He issued a challenge while I was a regular, and I was under the impression that it was the first of its kind, and that 8-track was not the prize.

So what was?

I recall the first gearfight being for an 8-track Mackie mixer or something.
