Despite coughing like a mofo I managed to get most of the instrument parts recorded today. Vocals are right out.

I'm basically over the cold but my voice is screwed. I think my arrangement lends itself quite well to an instrumental anyway....

Laid down the basis for the song. Guide drums, guide guitar, definitive vocals and bass.
Had to do the vocals NOW, 'cause I am feeling a cold coming up as well.
Next up: recording guitar parts and fleshing out the drums. Looks like I am gonna get it finished in time.

Why did I think the deadline was thanksgiving? Ah well, lucky I finished the cover weeks ago
Just need to find a drummer / program some drums / decide that it works just fine without (the preferred option)

A whole week left and all I need to do is vocals and mix.
Ever since I quit drinking, I've been getting so much accomplished. Now I'm setting the bar too high and too much will be expected of me. So I think I'll go ahead and start drinking again. I don't want to disappoint people.

I have both of my covers done, with two versions of the second one. One's disappointing. The other one I'll probably be refining right up until the deadline.

Okay folks, we have about one week left until our deadline... how is everybody doing? I've received five or six of the cover songs so far.
Everybody please PM me with a link to your cover as it now sits, or an estimate as to when you'll have it ready. Thanks!

All I have left is backing vocals and lead guitar.
I want to know how you bastards worked out the technology to send human viruses over the internet - I think I'm getting your cold, too. This may effect the quality of my backing vocals, but come hell or high water, I will meet the deadline.

First version is ready. Been listening to it continuously the last two days, making mental notes on what things I want to have changed.
Tonight I'll do some tweaks, then I'll listen one more day to see if I'm happy with the result, and then I'll send the link.
I'm aiming for thursday november 11th.

The drums and guitar are pretty much done. If I have time, I'll add bass (but don't hold your breath). My goal is to record the vocals by this weekend. My new 'studio' has a LOT of reverb which is a very strange recording experience and I can't tell if it is affecting my ability to leave tone-deafness behind (I have ITDS - Intermittent Tone Deafness Syndrome.... weak).
Any suggestions for killing reverb in a room?

I built some foam panels which I hang on my walls, which helps a little bit. Also, if you have hardwood floors, look into area rugs. Adding furniture helps too.
Worst case, you can make a vocal booth. At one point, someone (I think puce/Adam!) had posted their simple vocal booth process on the forum here. They basically constructed a "shower"-type frame out of PVC piping and then hung cheap comforters around it.

I just ordered more panels from GIK Acoustics:

You could also try some kind of reflection filter. Here's one for $99 -

Did scratch vox last night. My god am I out of practice. Just need to find some privacy and do 3 or 4 hundred more takes. The trick is getting a good take after I'm warmed up but before my voice is shot. I love singing but hate recording vocals

Obviously I'm almost never 'round these parts, but this looks to be a very cool project, and I'm sorry I missed it. Let's do this again! (And if people get stiffed, I'd be happy to help in that department.)

My vocal booth is a blanket hung up in a small closet. It isn't perfect, but it didn't cost me anything, either.

I hear that. If I could just bottle that or have it in bud form to pack a bowl, I'd be rich!
I'm really looking forward to listening to all of these songs. Probably more than anything else that I've anticipated in a while. I want to hear the original and the cover side by side for each.
