I loved her songwriting. She was a huge influence on me, one of the people who taught me through her example how lyrics could be so much more than what you see on the surface. Her song “Barren an Egg” is just one example of her amazing artistry and craft, and I have shared her song “Heroes” with so many people.

I am going to miss her presence in the world.

Jill Sobule has died. In a house fire. I talked to her on the phone 8 days ago. I am having a difficult time processing this.
I was only a little more than vaguely aware of Jill Sobule but everything I heard I liked and she was awesome in the couple of interviews I heard on the radio back in the day. I watched the videos and was caught up a little bit. Anyway, sorry you lost her. She seemed great.

Neither Brian Wilson nor Sly Stone were big in my listening habits but they were both great artists. Kinda makes you think.

The first thing I heard when I got home from a trip today is that Ozzy Osbourne just passed away.

Sad news about one of our own. Micah posted over in the Spintunes Discord the following:
Hello @everyone,

I have some very sad news to share. I learned today that Joy Sitler died on Friday night. Joy was, of course, serving as a judge for the current tournament, which is put on immediate pause until we decide as a community how to proceed.

Joy was excited to serve as a judge for SpinTunes 25, after competing in six prior tournaments. She was also working on some incredible new songs, touring, collaborating, and determined to focus as much of her energy as she could on making music.

I have learned from Joy's family that a memorial service is being planned for Friday, October 3 in Indiana, USA. There will be a Zoom link that I will be able to share for anyone in the SpinTunes community to join the service virtually. Joy's family knew how important this community was to her.

Speaking personally, I was devastated to learn of Joy's death. I have treasured her as a friend and respected her as a brilliant songwriter and talented performer. I know that many members of our community will feel similarly. I am so sorry to have to give this news to everyone.

I don't think I ever interacted with her since I've never participated in SpinTunes, but it's sad to hear of her passing. Looking online it looks like she had been a victim of a hit-and-run accident on the freeway. Such a tragedy.

She'd also entered a half dozen Song Fights and won a few of those.

Condolences to her family, and Micah and all the SpinTunes community.

Gosh. Now I really wish I'd heard her songs sooner and gotten to know her.

She was brilliant. I lover her collaboration in My Broken Demo Tape, it's is so, so good.

Joy's obituary is online.

There will be a memorial service this Friday, October 3 at 2 pm EDT in Indiana. PM me if you'd like the Zoom link to attend virtually.

SpinTunes folks will also be putting together a tribute/cover album. I'll post more info here on the Song Fight boards once we've decided specifics, and folks here would be welcome to participate.

RIP my man Ace Frehley. Say what you will about KISS, it all applies, but Ace was a huge inspiration to many.
