That was Fun!!!
Really great to meet people, put faces on some of those mysterious handles, and, best of all, hear a bunch of great music.
Sean - REALLY sorry to have left before your set was over - I was enjoying it a lot, but I was already somewhat "past curfew" jsut trying to get a chance to hear everyone a little.
Ken and Sean - great job, thanks for making it happen.

Thanks for the pictures Heidi, those are great.
I had a lot of fun, and it was great to see all of you again. Great new additions too, like Seamus and Evil-E, and the first time I heard Ross Durand live who is friggin spectacular on his dulcimer. As a side note, I'm always impressed when I hear songs live that I really like but may or may not have appreciated recorded.

Wheee!!! What a blast. Great job everybody. Online it may not be "SongLove" but thankfully it seems like it is in person. I think there were almost as many fighters there as in Boston, too!
Party!!!

That was an awesome "rehearsal"... ummm since SA does not "Host Shows"...
It was wonderful meeting everyone, it was wonderful watching everyone, but most importantly, it was FANTASTIC listening to everyone. You guys all RAWK!
It was definitely a pleasure! I'll have to listen through the video and work on getting some audio stuff out of it. And eventually, I'll get some of my pics posted too, but Heidi's pics are spot on.

Just some random thoughts about the show:
Seamus/Evil-E
I think Seamus impressed more people in three songs than anyone else the whole night. Evil-E's set was really fun to play.
Ross Durand
Ross played all his songs on Apalacian Dulcimer. It was great. I picked up a tamborine and played along to one song.
fluffy
fluffy gets better everytime I see him. My next challenge to you is to open your eyes and look at the audience.
Tiny Robots/Lunkhead/Loyalty Day
One of our better sets. Thanks to Eric and Evil-E for helping out.
Moxie Prophets
Always nice to have an actual band at these events. Moxie Prophets brought the rock old school.
Ken and the New Incredibles
Possibly the best New Incredibles ever. Frankly, I had my best friends in the world on stage with me that night. I felt honored. A large percentage of my life has been spent making music with them.
State Shirt
How does one man make so much noise? Must be all those amazing toys.
Octomojo
Octothorpe has become a polished act. They were tight, and worked the crowd.
prayformojo was agreat. I loved his cover of Overkill.
Abecedarian
Closing the show out with a quiet acoustic set was brilliant. The impromptu rock out for Please the Pig was fun.
Thanks to everyone who made this show a success. See you in Santa Cruz.

But I'm <em>emo</em>. And the light (and dripping sweat) hurts my eyes! And everyone's LOOKING at me!
What if I get some ping-pong balls and cut them in half and put dots on them instead? Would that work?

yep, that was an entirely pleasant experience. always fun to hang out with everyone, sorry i didn't get to talk much to the people i didn't get to talk much to (Heidi!). it was a whirlwind rock night.
Ross D, your new life challenge is to sound as good on tape as you do live on the dulcimer. that was some seriously most excellent rocking out. well.. folking out.. something.

Wow! really a fantastic show across the board! I love meeting new fighters, and I love hanging out with those I've met before. Plus, it's always a pleasure to have my annual house guests (Ken, Sam, and Erin) around.
The show was solid as hell and twice as fun. Every band had a great set that was really well recieved by the ever growing crowd. Such great support was shows not just by the other bands, but by the crowd. It was a lot of fun.
my play by play:
The Seamus/Evil E collective: I, admitedly, didn't know their music that well, but wow. Both were tremendiously entertaining with great playing and beautifully written songs. Seamus' voice was one of the most pleasant surprises of the night. Great job by both of you.
Ross Durant: Another treat. Ross' folky songs were a perfectly compliment to the rest fo the evening's music. his skill with the dulcimer is fantastic, and I enjoyed ever one of his songs.
Fluffy: Easily wins most improved performer. He has gone from someone who almost awkwardly played out his songs on the piano to someone who stood confidently in front of the crowd and played like hell. His songs were tight and skillfully performed, and being on stage with him for I Love You to sing harmonies was a treat.
Tiny Robots/Lunkhead/Loyalty Day: Solid and enjoyable as always. Erin even breifly busted out the accordian on this set. Great job!
Moxie Prophets: Another great surprise on the night. Highly polished and fun as hell, the Prophets rocked. With the demise of SoS, the Prophets could be positioning themselves to take the Songfight ROCK band title. Great energy and playing. I really enjoyed it.
Ken & T.N.I: Unfortunately, I missed a bunch of thie set because I was warming up for my set, nut the songs I did hear some of the tightest I've ever heard Ken play. It is always an absolute pleasure to watch Ken do what he loves to do. The fact that he does it with such skill makes it even more entertaining. An absolutely fantastic set by Ken!
State Shirt: Sweet lord. This is my second time seeign State, and I am left even more speechless than the first. You really can't describe a State Shirt set. You just have to experience it. Absolutely stunning, beautiful, and moving.
Octothorpe: Another band who gets better each time I see them. I love watching Octothorpe. Pure, unbridled, musical energy. A solid set that left everyone excited. It's like going to the carnival, and then having the carnival smashed right into your face. I will forever be among the # faithful.
prayformojo: Thank you so much to those who performed with me. It was an absolute pleasure and honor to share the stage with Octothorpe (especially getting to cover one of my favorite songs with them, and then play one of my favorite prayformojo songe that I've never gotten to play live). The Good Times Fun Band was great this time around, with a perfect compliment of guitars, banjo, drums and bass. i was really really happy with my set.
Abecedarian: your acoustic work is among my favorite. Such a great way to end the night. Plus, you played an impromptu version of Please The Pig which makes me really happy. The LA songfight scene wil lose a huge talent when you leave!
Thank you so much to Sean and Sam for their efforts in setting this up, and to all the musicians for making this a great show!!!

we played your bad dreams... at the first LA show, i think. i know i had played it before. might have been Seattle.

Pretty sure it wasn't in Seattle since I don't remember that happening (there was no Bad Dreams fight-style performance and I don't think there was any PFM stuff after the 'fuck it' point). I definitely don't see it in my copy of the SFLA'03 recordings though.

i'm certain we had a bad dreams fight in Seattle - or at least rehearsed for one. Front did the MYCC one solo acoustic. i think it was one of the first fights of the night.

Oh jeeze, <a href="

2003 feels like so long ago!

hmmmm.. coulda been an SFSF then.
anyways, i knew the song when we went to rehearse it, so we've played it before.

we rehersed it, but then cut it due to the number of entries in that fiqht. So anyone at that rehersal (in which Frontalot did one of the best versions of Listen Close I have ever heard) got to hear it, but not at the fight. I wanted to do the Duboce Triangle version at the Accordian show a few years ago, but Mo couldn't remember the guitar part so it got cutt there too. You've probably had to learn it twice just to have it get cut from the set. Saturday was it's first official performance. Viva La Blue forkicking ass on it , by the way. (today one of my friends sent me an IM sayinbg "That drummer for those Octothorpe guys rocked") And also for manning the soundboard all night.

well.. you should play it more often.. it sure is a good song.

When the time came to get ready to go to the show, I went to the website to get the address and print out directions... except the site was down. I waited a while but wasn't having any luck, the rest of the net was working fine. Anyone know what might have happened? This was around 7:30 - 8:00 (yeah i was gonna be a little late...)
Sounds like I missed a fun show... Hopefully I'll catch the next one.
Some comments

So a few folks are posting comments about Saturday. I thought I'd go ahead and share mine.
First of all - I thought the rehearsal time, while slightly hectic, went really well. Based on the performances it seemed to me like everyone got the rehearsal they needed. Neat to meet everyone and so on.
Seamus/Evil-E - Fun to be a side man. Seamus was great, as always, and I don't get to see Evil-E often enough. Known these guys for a while but always fun to work with them. Seamus can spin a tune and I love how Evil-E incorporates dynamics.
Ross Durand (me) - I don't play dulcimer often enough, but I love it when I do. I always enjoy playing a song the day I write it, so that was fun. Playing the three guitar songs with Evil-E and Seamus on the side was super fun - in fact, I think my favorite music-making of the day was with these two guys on the sidewalk out front as the sun went down.
Fluffy - Not having seen Fluffy before, what seemed like a slightly stiff performance took a little time to grow on me. I especially enjoyed it in true acoustic mode. Some great lines - the pink and blue make purple thing, for instance. I'm dying to know what sucky game he worked on - gotta get that one!
The Tiny Robots, etc.. extravaganza Great grooves, great band, Erin and Sam(lunkhead) held down a LOT of stuff on the evening and it was nice to hear this band shine. Very smooth set all around.
Moxie Prophets - So much better live!! (no offense intended). In addition to the punk-slightly-on-it's-musical-ear tuneful rock I particularly enjoyed the proficient, yet confortable with rough around the edges, guitar playing. When you guys knelt in front of the drums - one of my favorite moments of the night! ROCK!
Ken, etc... - AWESOME! Ken Mahru, on Saturday night, the workingest man in Songfight! (Blue a close second). I haven't seen Ken front a band in a few years (8?). This was great. I loved the twist on an old band's song, and the ballad was awesome. So far from "Ball and Chain." The band was great, too!
State Shirt - Wow! - the combination of writing, voice, technology, and ability is striking. Wow! nice to meet you, Ethan and great to hear/see you.
OctoMojo - I have now experienced the Octothorpe. (Sidenote - great to meet Spud, thanks for all you do for the site). I didn't know what to expect and I'm still not sure I do. Apparently Fluffy is a "new" permanent member, but one would never have known. Spud and Blue are an awesome rhythm section that I thought seems like either the heart or soul of this performance.
Mojo - Having only been around the site for a year I didn't really know this material, but the respectable cover was a great way to meet Chris - super fun set. Thanks for feeding the monkey.
abecedarian - I guess when I described this to folks the main adjective was beauty. Nice intimate acoustic feel. Sorry I couldn't stay till the end.
