I have a speedball t-shirt screen thing and some ink that I've never tried-- if somebody wants to make an awesome stencil we can DIY t-shirts.

Also, I'm driving down, so I can bring an instrument or gear or something needed.

Also, I see the PayPal link.

How far is the Dali museum from stuff? Yes I'm too lazy to look it up myself. Google is way over there...

Also, what's your paypal-- I'll pay the $100 to have Song Fight on the goddamned Marquee.

AWESOME! Thanks for comin' do0d. Thanks in advance for the donation and my paypal is hoblitygoodness at yahoo dot com. I've already inquired about adding the marquee service to the next invoice.

THIS WOULD BE SUPER COOL. I love this idea and not just because I'm broke or cheap. This will give this year's smaller event a very unique and personal touch. Give us details on how to accommodate, like dimensions that the stencil hast to be or as in how large or small does it have to be to fit your kit.

ha, i was going to say the same thing! but since you said it first, i'll chip in.
I'll take any help I can get. I want to thank Frankie BF out loud for his donation. I thought it was very very cool of him to donate to this year's event even though he will not be able to attend it. Thanks Mr. Face.

The Dali museum is on the other side of the bay. How FAR is relative on how you feel about crossing the bay. The locals here wouldn't consider it very far away, I'd say that it's about 45 minutes from my apartment and mostly just a scenic bridge and highway trip to downtown St. Petersburg. So, relatively speaking, its not far at all...or CRAP...its all the way across the bay. I highly recommend it and I've been there about four times, great place. Might be worthy of noting that St. Petersburg is where the MLB team The Rays reside.

THATS BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE IN TAMPA!

I'm adamant about the two cities are completely separate entities! They both have their own tall buildings and they're roughly 25 miles away from each other and across a fairly large body of water.

JB: St. Petersburg will work for you then. The Rays will NOT sell out I promise...however, since they've been doing pretty well...the better seats might be filled. Also note that Tropicana Field is indoors. (AC!)

The marquee for The Ritz will read: SONGFIGH! LIVE HOT & SWEATY

Caravan Ray: Once, my folks were in town and we were all trying to decide what to do while visiting my Aunt in St. Petersburg. I suggested the Dali museum. My dad looked at me funny and asked what? I said, the Dali museum. He still looked puzzled and now I was getting a puzzled look. Then I said it once again but this time I clarified my statement with "the artist, the surrealist". Then he finally goes ooooOOOOHHHHHhhhh! I thought you were saying the dolly museum and that you wanted us to go look at a museum comprised of toy dolls.

True story.

Dude, you might want to include the T in SONGFIGHT. Unless that costs an extra $100.

I have been meaning to paypal you a sum... and have been attempting to do it now, but I can't remember my darn password. stinkin' passwords.

Weird - those two words would sound in no way similar if I said them. Then again - I have had a Japanese man think I wanted to kill him when I suggested an outing. He heard "To you want to go out today" as "Do you want to go out to die?"

Can't get my head around these New Zealand vowels though. Every time someone offers me an icy cold alcoholic beverage (ie. beer) - it sounds like they are going to set a 900kg carnivore onto me (ie. 'Eh bro'. You want a bear?)

The Cantonese for beer and bear are very similar, as well. Once, in Hong Kong, I ordered a "little bear" instead of "another beer".

Sorry about that, Jack. I moved everything into a special hot and sweaty folder, and forgot to put that one in there. I am afraid you are going to have to try again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

DOOOOOD! I can wait a week even!

If you can't make it you will be forgiven but man, it tickles me to death at the idea of you comin' to my city!

Again, I can't thank Jack enough for his support and Paco for being just as enthusiastic. It warms my heart and I have to make a shout out for the low key Dre who has been behind this all the way.
Alright, it's official. The tickets have been purchased. I am a poor, poor hobo, so if your futon is still available on Friday and Saturday night, I'd be eternally grateful.

AWESOME! And consider it done, I'll update the web page to reflect that the futon is now officially occupied by Erik of The 15/16 puzzle for the Tampa portion of his tour.

Wow! Glad to see that the bill is filling up! Hoblit, I don't need to play a set as I will gladly defer to the Jefffs, JBs, Jacks and Eriks of the world. I'm not beating myself up here, but really, wouldn't we all rather hear those guys do some songs? However, I would really love to play alongside someone, and I'll learn a couple of my sons to strum out if I need to. I think I'll look into the Hampton Inn business ad will more than likely choo-choo it down there. Gettin' psyched!

PS - I don't think the Rays are in town that weekend, I would've loved to have gone to a game.

Yeah it looks like they'll be in Texas and won't be back until Monday the 18th.

Not that its the same thing and its WAY more expensive, The Buccaneers' second pre-season game will be played in Tampa on Sunday the 17th.

I'd rather that everyone who is in Tampa for this thing play music. You best get to practicing your songs.

I will start my homework today, then. You can put me down for first of the night Hoblit, if the spot's not taken.

Fine by me, I wouldn't be able to concentrate knowing that I was coming up later on. OK, i am arriving by train mid-day on the 15th, and departing around 5PM on the 17th. The Hampton Inn was booked, so I looked for cheap and close. I am staying at the very cheap University Inn, which is just over 2 miles from the Ritz. I have a feeling it's scruffy, but as long as the sheets are clean and I don't have to share the bed with any critters, I'm all set. It should also be walkable to both the Ritz and the House of Hoblit, no? Anyway, here I come!

That hotel is a bit shady but its not all that bad. Its pretty much across the street from Tampa University and there is a 24 hour gas station across the other street. You will not be in walking distance of the venue but you will be in relative walking distance to my apartment/practice. I used to walk to that gas station when the local Wallgreens wasn't doing the 24 hour thing. You will be very convenient to me for rides.

Not to cheat you though, you are kind of close to the venue in the sense that you are pretty much on my way to it and not completely across town or anything. You are a $10-$15 cab ride (depending on how you tip) from Ybor City.

EDIT: Let me know when your train comes in. The train station is on the edge of downtown and I could come and pick you up if you didn't want to walk from the station to your hotel. (While walkable, would be kind of a long walk.)

The train is scheduled to come in at 12:34 PM. I imagine that you'll be at work, and while I absolutely appreciate the offer of a ride, I can't imagine asking you to leave work to come get me. Also, after 20 something hours on a train, I'll be more than ready to do some hoofing. However, I hope that that evening, maybe you and whoever else is around would like to go out for some chow and a pint. No biggy if not. :)

Now Hoblit, the Yahoo! map I looked at earlier said that the motel is 2.3 miles from the Ritz. Is that false? I mean, 2.3 miles isn't a crazy walk.

Oatsey- Did you get my PM or are you ignoring me? Don't be shy there, buddy.

no, 2.3 miles sounds right... and when I worked in Ybor for a while, I would ride my bike there most days.

Also, while I would normally be at work and while work is totally in another part of town that is barely still considered Tampa, I will be taking Friday the 15th off. My apartment will be available to anyone who wants to practice their set for the show the next night.
