I'm actually still working on Take it Easy, believe it or not. I've just had to put it on hold -- I've got a more pressing song I'm working on now. Feel free to start the voting before I submit though. I'm spending all day tomorrow recording, but I don't know if that'll be enough.

Despite sitting with a guitar in my hands for most of it, it was a weekend with an absence of inspiration for either song title for this week. I got frustrated and decided I wanted to record something. I decided to pick up Albatross' abandoned "Lyin' Eyes".

Just a chance to add another of my favourite Eagles songs in a style more befitting stueym rather than 57U-3YM. Good bad or indifferent you can find it on Bjam's site as described above and I have sent to Johnny Cashpoint to see if he wants to add it as a non-competitive entry for the coverfight.

Okay dammit, that's it. If I can't get this encoded today, I'm at least gonna submit a home studio version from a previous demo. One way or another, I'm in. Today.

Sorry again for the wait. My band was called in to play a Christmas benefit at the local Rod & Gun Club yesterday. Yeehaw!

Good on ya'. That was undoubtedly better than my version would have been anyway.

So I ran (drove) home on my lunch break, and hooked up my equipment real quick and listened to my live recording. Oh My God it's horrid. I can't even blame it on the sound quality, it's just a bad bad performance. (No more Jagermeister between sets for me!)
So then I dug out that old demo version, and it's even worse! I can't believe I ever tried to get work with that piece of crap. So when I get home after work I'm doing the guy-and-piano thing. Desperado tonight, by God.

EDIT: There's nothing like a complete lack of time and opportunity to make an otherwise horrid-sounding live track seem kind of okay. So that's what I've submitted. It's not that bad, actually, but the singing is kind of pitchy. No monitors, and the crowd was kind of loud at that point in the evening. Not that you can tell much from the recording...

OK tyrrell is in the voting mechanism, and he and Stueym's 'Lying Eyes' are in the stream. The fight is complete bar your listen & vote. So get cracking! (if you are so inclined)

i voted for <b> Octothorpe</b>, their cover was unique enough, but yet still true to the original, plus it really ROCK! accordion style.

other ones I’d enjoyed were the <b>The Bewells </b>. Enjoyed the song, well done, unfurtuenaly I have never heard the original so is hard to compare it as a cover, even though it does sound allot like the eagles.

<B>Dan-O from Five-O</b>, am not sure if this is a solo project, or if you got your Indiana band involved, but it sounds good. not only does it remind me of the Eagles, but i get a taste of the Gin Blossoms as well. Like some of the palm mute stuff done with the guitar.

<b>Caravan Ray</b>, wow is a like a deepech mod version of it, great. Enjoyed it.

<b>Jim Tyrell</b>, man! this man does it all, Guitar, Piano..
great live version with a great ending. Even though this appears to be a simple song, it seems like the vocal melody can be a bit tricky.

<b>The Kandagawa Hitmen</b>, isn’t this just a Don Henley song... from one of his latets solo album ? (don Henley is not the Eagles).
either way, I’d enjoyed the lowfi version of this song, not to take away anything from the quality , as its very well recorded, and performed. enjoyed, the smooth tone on the accustic, compare with the bright bright acoustic used by Stueym.

<b>luke Henley</b> , this is so out there i enjoyed it. the background noises, the speaking, the guitar you can barely make out, the non-harmonized vocals. Unique.

i usually don't have problems with bright acoustics, but found your guitar to be super super bright. I’d enjoyed your caravan themesong more.

The thing that struck me with a lot of these is that some of the Eagles song's really aren't that bad - it's just that Mr Henley and the boys always had that uncanny knack of making you feel like you were riding in an elevator when you weren't (oh..when I said Mr Henley, I didn't mean you there Luke - you are of course, a fart in the elevator of life)

KADAGAWA HITMEN: I don't know the original of this - so I can't rate it as a cover. But I really like this as a song. The voice and guitar are great. That voice is so warm sounding. As I said - I don't know the original - but there's no way the Eagles could have sounded this interesting. There are some technical problems recording wise I think - but I don't know anything about that shit.

JACK SHITE: Firstly - I got to say that the original of this really makes me want to vomit - so you've got an uphill battle with this.
As it turns out - you nearly pull it off. I love the rain and the simple guitar - but the vocals kill it for me - it's that stereo thing I don't like. I think this needed a really stark vocal - no effects - very sad - that with the rain and the guitar singing about sleeping in the desert might have been pretty cool (actually, Kadagawa Hitmen vocals with this arrangement would work well)

DAN-O: I like this. You took the limp-wristed girl's-blouse-wearing original and gave it a bit of grunt. It's nothing fancy - but it's very listenable and it's got good energy. Vocals a bit too quiet though.
(BTW: on the topic of covers - you should do a cover of this - Aloha Steve & Dano - Radio Birdman - it's one of my Gift of Music selections - but you should adopt it as your themesong!)

JIM TYRRELL: Well - it's a very faithful rendition - it's making me just as nauseous as the original does. Well done!

J$&FRIENDS: I don't like that 'boinky-boinky' synth sound. I didn't like it in the 80's and I still don't like it now. That said - it's a brave and valid attempt at re-interpretation. This song has a very distinctive melody - you've played it down a bit - I would have liked to have heard it exaggerated. Maybe less Kraftwerk - more Devo. Overall - pretty good - but I would have liked to have heard more of the original melody.

THE BEWELLS: I don't know the original of this - so I can't comment on it as a cover. The banjo's cool - I can't imagine the Eagles using a banjo - so I'm guessing that's an improvement. You really know what your doing with this stuff. Well done.

STUEYM: The opening music is total cheese. I'm thinking ' StueyM is a genius! He's out Eagle-ing the Eagles!" Then the robot voice comes in! That IS a stroke of genius. This is hilarious! After a minute or so though - that synth does start to grate on me. I would really like to hear this song with just the robot voice - and only minimal backing - like Radiohead's "Fitter, Stronger, Faster.." or whatever it's called off "OK Computer".

OCTOTHORPE: There is probably only one small part of the entire Eagles ouvre that I would class as actual music and that is the opening guitar riff to this song. And you replace it with a digital piano accordian (or something equally obnoxious). That said - I love the vocals. The 'drunk-with-his-head-down-the-toilet' effect is not used nearly enough in modern music. Noisyshit guitars too. I love that. The wonky guitar thing in the breakdown about halfway through is awesome. This is great!

EGG: I don't know the original of this - but at least you've given us an actual tune here (sort of) . It's short at least - and I like the vocally bit at the end I really can't comment without being able to place it in the context of the original.

LUKE HENLEY: Again - I don't know the original. This just sounds like Luke Henley - but with less interesting lyrics.

CARAVAN RAY: This song has really disturbing lyrics - yet still the Eagles were able to make it sound like a tampon commercial. I tried to bring out the sinister in it.
I'm not really happy with the vocals on this - everything I tried kept coming out sounding like Phil Collins on 'In The Air Tonight' - so in the end I just went for deep (and slightly out of tune) voice.. Doing an Eagles cover and sounding like Phil Collins would have to be one of the most degrading things a human being could do.

Yes, it's a Don Henley song. I asked if I could go that route instead. I got the okay and ran with it, doing Aurora's favorite Don Henley tune. Thanks for enjoying it and saying it was well-recorded. I have never heard the words "well-recorded" used to describe one of my tunes. I usually get comments like Caravan Ray's where they note something off with the production because I can't produce for my life. If anyone would like to become my full-time producer, I'd be grateful.

Thanks everyone for enjoying the tune. It's essentially my first tune for Songfight since my crazy summer and I'm really pleased. Aurora & I worked hard on it (especially since I had never heard the song before. I recorded it about 6 hours after hearing it for the first time). Thanks everyone.

I'm guessing, based on your comment that you liked my voice, you must have reviewed "Lyin Eyes", which is absolutely fine and I appreciate the feedback, but the official entry was New Kid in Town in which there is no way you could have recognized my voice LOL....robot as per Caravan Ray's comments below.

The guitar for Lyin Eyes was continued experimenting on my part and for this song I was pretty happy with the results in terms of what I tried to achieve. See Help and How to for a posting of what I have been playing with (Mic'd on one channel and DI's through a Fishman Aura with custom sound images for the Ovations). The guitars are my Ovation Custom Legend Al DiMeola signature 6 and the Adamas Melissa Etheridge 12 String. Yes its super bright which I think may be due to the vintage harmonics section on my Focusrite VoiceMaster Pro with the AKG C3000B input and the fact that the Fishman sound image I chose was very bright too. More explanations on the other post All told its part of a continuing journey.

Glad you enjoyed me old mucka. A I described before this was a last minute rescue effort due to my cold making my vocals total ass. So I had to remix everything from scratch that morning, hence there being a pretty unbalance mix. I love what I did to this but want to get a remix of this to get the sound balance right.....any volunteers?
