It's been a while since I've updated my own plugins, but I use a few Voxengo plugs and they have a number of freebees. Even the plugs you have to buy are relatively cheap.

Darn, already dead.

Readability is a browser plug in that strips out all ads and other crap so you can actually read the content. It's great.

I've been looking around for some fun plugins for my ep, and I stumbled across these ones. not sure if the site's been posted in this thread, and I haven't tried the effects yet - but they look promising.

I gave Stardust a quick run, and I think it's sounding pretty good (I may have overdone it on the treble boost though, now that I listen to it again). The mastered version below is pumped up mostly with Stardust, and a 2 dB boost from GClip.

It's certainly louder on the mastered version. But it also separates pretty nice too. The highs on the brass is crisp and the bass is better. the guitar might be too loud after mastering, but I LIKE GUITAR, so it's cool with me. Also the stereo separation is MUCH wider, maybe too wide. But I listened on headphones, so....

Also, I love the jam. Makes me want to crank up a nice drum beat and jump on my guitar and rock out for a bit. bbl.

So, I installed it, and it did a bunch of hocus-pocus, but made no discernible changes in my hard drive. If it extracted anything, I can't find it, and of course, none of my programs see the instruments. Did anyone else get this pack? Can someone tell me what I did wrong?

You also have to install the actual softsynth, which is linked to from the same page.

Yeah Jon, what fluffy said... the free kontact player or whatever is what you need. That pack was just samples for it I believe.

According to this page, SynC Modular is now free.

SynC Modular is the precursor to Reaktor. It's a program that lets you assemble basic sound synthesis modules (VCOs, VCRs, VCFs, and much, much more) into your own custom synths.

Over the years, SynC Modular fans have posted various sythesizer designs for public use. The "salterium" that opens my Robot Ninja Zombie Bear entry is one ouststanding example (note that I've run the sound through a VST octave coupler.) It simulates some kind of stringed instrument struck with mallets. Each of about 15 keys on a MIDI keyboard is mapped to its own synthesizer, so you can fine-tune the way each "string" responds to a "hit."

For a while, a SynC Modular license was unobtainable. Apparently the original designer was hired by the makers of Reaktor, and SynC Modular was walled off as an unwanted competitor. So if it's really free as of Jan 2010, I recommend it to serious fans of synthesized sound.

Did I ever post about Ardour? I tracked a project on this DAW a few weeks back and was pretty impressed with it. It's donationware, so you can get it for free it you need. I didn't get into the mixing or editing or anything, but it worked fine to track an 8 piece group.

I've been experimenting with Ardour on Linux lately. Got some bugs, but I'm pretty impressed, myself.
