Hopefully, you do. That's my point. The thing we SHOULDN'T do is post a song we know is crap, and then say things like "I know it's crap but I sent it anyway". We all tend our own gardens.

Although, the 'learning one's craft' idea is a sticky wicket. Most of what I do that falls under this heading is unworthy of public presentation. And this may not be ProductionFight, but it's also not SongWorkshop. Whether or not the works (or the results) show it, I fight to win. If I've got a song that doesn't give me what I believe (in my wild delusional state) to be a decent shot, then you don't hear it.

Dammit, now I gotta re-do those reviews, 'cause I don't want anyone to think I'm accusing them of this behavior in this fight. I thought all the 'tw3rps' were artistically legitimate submissions, although the WKRP one was a five second joke that took a lot longer than that to tell. But even that had relevance, and was reasonably well-built.

THIS IS NOT A GAME PEOPLE!

tw3rp REVIEWS:

Balls To Monte :
The vocals remind me of an 80s synth pop band working in the wake of Depeche Mode. Actually the low growl thing is quite Dave Gahan. Nice, though a bit repetitve, I keep waiting for it build into something else.

Beefy [w. DJ Snyder] :Good flow
When I saw the band name, I thought this would suck. It doesn't. Starts off great. Nice track. One of the better raps on SF. Begins a little nerd core, gets out of it though. Good flow. Could use a couple of breaks to space out the verses.

Billy's Little Trip :a
Ha, Pixieish, like this a lot more than I thought I would at the beginning. Not sure it needs the solo, at least that solo, but it works. Styx tickets, great. Satellite, Yeah! Like this one.

Booty Chesterfield Trio :
Uh! I like the guitar line, Cool all the way around, the vocals could be more audible. Like the fuzz bass.

Dj Dickie Qwick :
Been singing the WKRP song all week. Very cool. Feel like you could have taken this further, so it got away from the source material before you brought it back, still cool though.

Flvxxvm Florvm :
Hmmm.... cartoon accents and cabaret keyboards, not my thing.

Garlick Head :
Fun.

Gert :
Ah, the return of the Broken Social Scene of Songfight. Not bad, though Gert doesn't equal the sum of its parts, all 27 of whom I like individually. The music often doesn't seem to have a clear direction. But yeah, it rocks.

Melvin :
Love the dissonance if the first guitar chords. Your stuff is always catchy. Oooooh, nice breakdown there. Was just about to say I heard everything in the first minute of the song and then you drop that. Great solo. Good song.

Paco Del Stinko :
Aw no. I already don't like this. Now I like it less. Ok, the breakdown was funny. Nice keyboard solo, if a bit loud.

Raspy Jasper :
The guitar effects are annoying me. Sounds like Framton came alive in your bedroom. This could be a good song, but I can't tell, cause I can't get past that guitar. Its ok.

Ross Durand :
This song knows exactly how long it should be. Bouncy. Nice solo. Funny chorus, funny ending.

Sockpuppet :
Wow, you have upped your game. As for the vocals, lets just say it has vocals. I may try to make the keyboards less bluesy sounding. Has a good pop sensibility.

Spinlock :
If anywone ever makes an off-West End musical based on The Office, this could be the show stopper. The chorus is over the top funny.

The Anarchaeologists :
That piano is loud. Not a bad groove. Cool subtle vocals. Something about the part before chorus is a bit small town theater piano sing a long. That probably doesn't make a lot of sense. Wow, solo out of nowhere, wasn't expecting that one. Well played though. Oh also, copying and pasting midi piano parts is ok and all, but make sure they don't have any obvious notes that stick out.

Tri Minutieux :
Started off really cool. Like the keyboard line. Nice sound collage. Almost sounds like sea birds, cool. Reminds me of Hot Tub Combo's brimming with tears and somebody's less of you, can't remember which one. Good job.

Wages of Spin :
Not much to say about this one. Not digging the low repeating bass like noise. Like the repeating Ill be mine, It'll be mine. Nice Hammond work there. This could be shorter.

Wreckdom vs. Sven :
Wow, heavy. Nice four part performance there, I guess sung from different character's points of view, or at least states of mind. A combo that works for both groups.

Zoosneakers :
Cool textures. Sounds like an intro to something that doesn't come.

iNGRUO :
Mechanical, though that's the point, eh. Cool blips. They could be lower under the vocals though. Cool in that early 90s industrial way.

signboy :
Nice guitar tone. Work on your voice. KInd of generic sounding. Does a good job of getting the altrock sound.

Ok Fight.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the great reviews. I liked the way my song came out and I'm glad others did, too. A special thanks to those who said they listened multiple times - that felt good.
And thanks to the Fightmasters for picking me - it was nice on my anniversary.:-)

Sorry to not have full reviews - not a lot grabbed me this week and I felt the reveiws were coming off more negative than I meant when I was writing them. But here's what I liked best:
Anarchaeologists - nice groove and sounds
Beefy etc.. - one of the better raps I've heard here. I'm glad it wasn't about itself.
BLT - 'cause I love Jim Ladd
Spinlock - interesting to my ears.

And I appreciated all attempts to include the three in a sensicle way.

See you in the "Couldn't have been worse" thread!

Well, I had this about 2/3rds done, so I figured I better finish it before I get started on the next review. :P
I copy and pasted from the front page line up.

Ross Durand - This is a great song. The whole TV theme was clever, but even more clever is the line, "he's a tw3rp with a capital 3" , lmao, great use of the title. It starts out sounding like The Beach Boys, so you should run with that someday and make a Beach Boys'esque tune. Great job Ross.

Booty Chesterfield Trio - This song is cool. The intro sound effect is great, but my favorite part is the bridge, then you do that sound again before the kicks back up. I really like the combo of the acoustic and the distorted bass. I like this one and I've been playing the shyt out of it all week.

iNGRUO - Great on head phones. All kinds of freaky sounds. I hope I don't find out in a week or two that this song brainwashed me, because that's what it feels like when I'm listening to it. I would have loved to hear some distorted rhythm guitar running through this. But that's just me. Very trippy and cool. Good job

Spinlock - I loved this one. Great voice. It's entertaining listening to British voices. Nice arrangement. Good job Spin. You seem to bring something good to the fight each week.

Paco Del Stinko - Hohhhhh Yeahhh! This is AWESOME! I just smile every time I hear it. You are the King of the call and respond thing.....or whatever it's called.....but you're the King of it none the less.I think I've asked you this before, but have you ever heard Green Jelly, formally Green Jell-o before Billy Cosby sued them and made them change their name. Great job Chuck, you are one clever ess oh bee.

Wreckdom vs. Sven - Bill Cosby vs Peter Parker, lol. I love when it kicks in and starts rock'n. Perfect ending when he says, "and I'll laugh"

Balls To Monte - Nice voice and sound. Nice mellow jam. Not bad.

Gert - This song ROCKS. Great arrangement and mix. The keyboard solo sounds like good old school rock with that follow up guitar post solo. I like this one. We need more rock and roll around here. Great job guys!

Melvin - Interesting intro. I like the muted guitar cross picking, nice peppy effect. Cool solo and FX. Nice little ditty all around. Good job Mel.

Tri Minutieux - Cool trippy sounds. Do you make them or find them on the Internet and modify them?

Sockpuppet - I like this one. Groove'n keys. I've said it before, I'm a closet funker and this has a funky groove. The breathiness in the vocals make me believe it. Great job.

signboy - I like the guitar/drum breaks. Good song.

Beefy [w. DJ Snyder] - Even though you friend flooded, it's still a decent rap song. Good energy.

Wages of Spin - Pretty cool sound. Cool keys, cool guitar.

Zoosneakers - I'm not sure what your intentions are with this one, but it would be a killer background for one of my conspiracy rants I like to do every time something political pisses me off. You should try that some time, it's a great way to vent about the Government without sounding like a hippie.

Garlick Head - How could anyone not love this song? Love the computer voice squeezed in for twerp, lol. I've been playing this song when ever I need to refresh my happy cells. Good job

The Anarchaeologists - That synth bass really drives this great. The melody is great. The canned vocals are perfect for this song. The solo is sweet. I can't help but think of George Harrison on this one, even though it doesn't sound like anything George Harrison has done. Great vibe, I really dig on this song.

Flvxxvm Florvm - Hoishy squoits in ya jockey shoits, HaHaHa! I crack up every time I hear this song. I remember when the title was given and you said your going to use whatever accent it is that pronounces twerp as "twoip". I was think of a New York Gangster and low and behold. Good job Jeff, clever and entertaining.

Dj Dickie Qwick - I like that you had the radio station idea too. I would have loved to use the intro to this song on mine. If I ever do a club re-mix of my twerp song, I'll be contacting you for your song to loop in. Great clips when tuning in the station on the intro, funny.

Raspy Jasper - This song gave me a boner.

What a coincidence; my boner gave me that song!
Am I rockin' hard, or hardly rockin'?
