Want to badly. Have to wait to find out. Gonna give it a really good shot. Things might be in the way for me then. But don't get your hopes up too high as we've never done any of these songs in the same room together. WTF would be a good number to do, if I can play the bass and sing it. I'd be practicing my panties off here at home for months if I know I'm going down.... well maybe not months.... week before....
The thing that blows bull nuts is that you have to put alcohol in a non-conspicuous container and such. And they won't let ya burn a J either. These are serious drawbacks for me.
Me too. I'm in for a more intoxicating time, but I also don't want to suck at playing and since we have never ever played in the same room doing Redcar then I guess it only goes to show that it might be better to keep it on an even keel for a pre-rehearsal. During the entertainment portion, which I can't really even comprehend as I am an SF live virgin, I wouldn't mind tying it on. Man, I want to go..........

Good plan. Also, mail a duplicate set of clothing to your hotel as a back up.

suck.

I hope that whatever circumstance that appears to be beyond your control now will eventually be under your thumb and that your status may change.

quite rather. it was fun hanging out last year.

on a broader note: the whole house-buying scenario i am currently going through is way occupying a bunch of time formerly spent on this here messageboard. my apologies for being incommunicado for the most part lately, and if anybody needs me for any reason i can be reached by email. i don't know why anybody would want to reach me. but i am going to be in boston when y'all are, so i hope that justifies me posting this crap in this thread.

I may or may not be able to come, still, what with life being so gosh-darn crazy for me right now.

Barring some huge disaster, sparkette and I are in all the way. I do, however, need people to play instruments, being a one man band. Sparkette plays no instruments whatsoever, and will probably just do some singing (she's going to play Mr. T in Do it For Captain, by the way).

Most of my songs don't have bass, so it's pretty much optional, but it would be nifty if someone picked off some notes with the chords or something, I'd imagine. I might be able to train sparkette for that job. Other than that, I definitely need drums, which can be just as simple and repetetive as my programmed ones, so they should be easily enough improvised/learned.

I/we'll be doing most of my songs, hopefully, except probably Video Night, Tiny Room, Been to China (which isn't legit, after all), and a few others I'm embarrassed of. The others are going to be getting some revamps as I try to make them playable/listenable, so if I'm feeling adventurous I'll be spamming somesongs with self-covers of tunes from high school soon as I figure them out (joy).

Lodging arrangements are totally up in the air. We can pay two fractions of the rent and take up only one bed, so hopefully we'll be easy to accomodate. Has anyone given much consideration to this stuff yet, or is it early still?

Also:

My mediocre skills are available to all on the following instruments (in order of mediocrity):

Guitar
Bass guitar
Ukulele/similarly-tuned instrument
Keyboard

But warn me early!

And, while I hope I'm not spamming you folks...
Songs I may be performing and instruments I'll need (and then instruments that aren't needed but would be cool in parentheses):
* Do It For Captain - drums, (bass), (extra guitarist)
* Birds of Our Own - drums, (bass), (extra guitarist)
* Alright Alright - drums (bass) (extra guitarist)
* It's a Shame My Binoculars Don't Work at Night - drums (bass) (extra guitarist)
* Secrets (?) - none
* Acid Mouth - drums (bass) (no extra guitarist, I'm cutting out those fucking solos)
* My Sister - drums (bass) (keyboard)
* Indie Rock Bottom - drums (bass) (extra acoustic)
* Rot to Fill (?) - (slide electric or acoustic-easy)
* World of Screens - drums add'l electric (bass)
* Glass Eye - none

I'm sure someone won't be able to fill all or even most of those, so consider it a silly little wish list for now, but I'll talk to who I know about the stuff that's totally necessary. My AIM SN is "fearwig" if you're interested, email is gareth1@umbc.edu . Like I said, I'd be happy to offer my less-than-capable playing to whoever needs it, as well.

Also: what's the format been like the past few times? Same as SFLPT? Or different, now that there are so many fights to deal with?

Yah, format will be roughly as so: You get some block of stage time, probably in the 20-30 minute range, to play some songfight! songs. Any songs you want. So does everyone else. At the end of it all there will be one "old-style" live fight for a title announced about a week or two beforehand. Experience seems to suggest that this is a pretty good method overall. (Basically the Austin method of last summer.)

"Any songs you want" is kind of open to interpretation; basically your own songfight! songs plus maybe a cover of another songfighter. There won't be like a "Totally Digging Your Mom Fight" or anything (because my mom might well be there and I don't want you creeps digging her), and no voting except for the live fight at the end. You'll be strongly encouraged not to play random original songs or pop radio covers, because there will be drunk people who will throw sticks at you if this happens.

Cool, cool. Yeah, I was thinking--that method would be pretty much the only way to go. Fun as the SFLPT format was, it just doesn't work in this day and age of four fights a week, by gosh.

crisis averted: i just found out my sister's wedding is the previous weekend (august 6th).

can some kind person familiar with the boston area please send me a message letting me know where the venue is (assuming we've figured that much out so far??) in terms of area of town (or at least an approximate street address) for finding nearby hotel accomodations? i'd like to get that stuff lined up sooner rather than later. thanks in advance.

oh and when i say "send me a message" i mean a PM on here, cause it should email me if i get one of those, and i check my email at least a few times a week, versus almost never which is how often i check here. tkx!

I'm moving to Brighton by the end of the month and should have plenty of free time to help out with this effort. There's a chance we (me+Yakuza Jack) might also have a couch for someone to crash on for the weekend, although I'm not 100% on that.

Man I can't wait for this to go down.

Okay, since my employment is firm at this point and I'll have money AND vacation time by then, Boston is looking way the hell more likely for me now. Yay!

Oh, HOWEVER: I think I'll let someone else handle the recording this year, if it's all the same. Man that was a lot of work.
