It has to do with the relatives speeds of sound waves through the air + microphone physics versus electrical signals over cable. Has nothing to do with the buffer related latencies since all the channels would presumably have the same delay.

There can (and will) be phase issues between a mic'd and DI'd or any number of mics. Whether these add or subtract can be subjective, so you should take care to look (listen!) for phase issues in your tracks. Here's an article from Universal Audio that explains the issues without giving many silver bullets to solve it: https://www.uaudio.com/blog/understanding-audio-phase/

Re: A Room With Some New Unused (A Doom With A View Reviews)
I believe you, as I'm ignorant in this field, but I've never had the problem when both mic'ing and recording line in at the same time. Maybe I'm just lucky? I HAVE had issues with two microphones. Some serious sound issues. Which is why I resorted to mic and line in for years and now, after years of that method, I just use a small diaphragm on my new-to-me Yairi and it sounds golden. Like, every single time. It's amazing what a great instrument will do to your recording process.starfinger wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 6:08 amIt has to do with the relatives speeds of sound waves through the air + microphone physics versus electrical signals over cable. It's all real, but I definitely went for some Forceful Plucking (and probably an overdose of compression) to get the notes to ring out.
Just finished listening on my lunch break and PHEW hearing my own voice back didn't make me cringe too much! Thanks for having me!

Re: A Room With Some New Unused (A Doom With A View Reviews)
Yes I did! What a cool idea to put reviews into a podcast!
Well, I must confess you are right: it's not too far away from Duran Duran. I showed this song to some people but no-one recognized the 'relationship'. I'm glad I didn't associate it before – the song would not become the way it is now.
Me, I like flute when it's used in a rhythmic percussive way e.g. Kraftwerk's Ruckzuck. Maybe I would have played a melody… if I could. But I'm just starting to learn; I had to keep it simple. Maybe there's more to follow within the next years.
It's an interesting point of view of avoiding I's, Me's, Mine's etc. I never thought that way. But I can understand what you are trying to say. – Maybe for me it was always different. I don't like too much You's, because it feels like I should or need to do something. Like it forces me into a direction I don't want to go. And no-one knows me better than I. That's why I like people more, singing about themselves and their feelings. It gives me a security to watch/hear them from a distance and then compare it to my own feelings or situation. And if I see they feel the same way (or even a way that's funny or appealing to me) I really get into their lyrics, knowing there's someone out there who understands me. Maybe I'm more the watcher not the doer.
But now, knowing this point of view, I'm sure I'll have to think it over the next time.
Thanks for this entertaining insight!

I enjoyed the podcast as well, again. Thanks again for contributing those to the community! I enjoyed Vom's guest appearance too. I'd be down to do a guest appearance some time if you're still looking for people.

Re: A Room With Some New Unused (A Doom With A View Reviews)
Cool podcast as usual, nice to hear Vom add his comments too. I pretty much agree with the complaints about my track. The sloppy mixing there at the end especially. And I agree I didn't need to add the "a doom with a view" thing at the end, and I liked the idea of doing the lyrics without the exact phrase. I just liked that bit and wanted to add it... I guess what I'm saying is I didn't do it cause I thought it was necessary, just been trying to add codas which add something a bit different as an arrangement thing.

Hey, what happened to the direct mp3/feed links? I had this on my list to listen to but when I went and clicked through I found they were both broken. I will use iTunes if I have to but I hate it.Chumpy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 8:39 pmVom Vorton joins the Jerks, as we make disgusting mouth sounds which vaguely relate to the Doom With A View Fight!

Re: A Room With Some New Unused (A Doom With A View Reviews)
Those links are still good. The "twojerksonevote.com" domain is less than a year old. Some people use a DNS service (like Cisco Umbrella/OpenDNS) that views new domains as potential phishing or otherwise hostile sites and refuses to resolve them, my guess is that's what's happening to you. If this is the case, you won't even be able to use iTunes to hear it, since iTunes still downloads the mp3 using our domain name.
Our podcasts follow a similar naming convention that you use for submitting Songfight Songs, so the .mp3 name for A Doom With A View is ADWAV_TJ1V.mp3. Normally the URL would be: https://twojerksonevote/ADWAV_TJ1V.mp3. You can re-write it to use the muppetlabs.com domain like: https://muppetlabs.com/TJ1V/ADWAV_TJ1V.mp3.
You can also just ignore all that and click here.

Yup, we're still doing the podcast. I had some family issues that came up last weekend so we're one fight behind. We spent a bunch of time this last weekend working on a tune for Silent Advance, so we've been busy!

I also tried looking up the IP at mxtoolbox.com and pointing my browser directly to 207.66.255.52/TJ1V/ADWAV_TJ1V.mp3 (with or without the TJ1V subdirectory) also and got "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT".
Putting in just 207.66.255.52 gives me ERR_SOCKET_NOT_CONNECTED. I tried flushing my sockets/closing idle sockets, which the internet suggested, and using an incognito window. No luck!
It gave me this "health report" btw in case this is helpful?

Man, that is weird! I've tried it from a number of different IP address 'round the great Internet and it works fine. Maybe we've blocked your IP address at the firewall (we have pretty aggressive anti-spam IP bans) for some reason. If you post here or PM me your IPv4 IP address I'll take a look and see if that's the case.owl wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 2:44 pmIn Chrome:

Well, your IP wasn't in our firewall, so I'm still not sure what's up. What I did though is copy it up to an AWS S3 bucket. You can get it here:

Re: A Room With Some New Unused (A Doom With A View Reviews)
Since I've been away from Songfight for a while, I went back to this fight, listened through the songs and then listened to the Jerkatorium review podcast. Great fun (both the songs and the podcast), and nice to hear Vom Vorton giving his thoughts as podcast guest.
And much respect to you for learning a new instrument, that's seriously awesome. Good luck as you continue to learn and improve (though it already sounds great)!
Don't listen to the haters, Heine, I thought the flute sounded great. Personally, I think that the flute sounds pretty boring when playing a straight melody because its sustained tone is so static - not much variety of timbre. Played in this percussive style, though, it becomes much more interesting and compelling.
