Spoilers for politics:
Spoiler
Yeah but I can’t accept anyone thinking Pence as a local politician is “doing a good job” when a substantial part of his platform is gay conversion therapy for kids
anyway let’s get back to talking about headphones. If we want to continue this aspect of the conversation let’s move it to a new thread in politics.

I wound up ordering the BeyerDynamics DT990 Pro, and should have them Thursday. Hooray! I know it's not exactly what some folks strongly suggested I get, but, the reviews and the other testimonials and the price point seemed good. Then I read this interview on Tape Op with a King Britt, who I had not heard of before, but he mentioned mixing albums on these and reading his history and listening to his music he seemed like somebody with a good ear.

Good grief, for how long it took you, you probably could have bought 5 different pairs by now. :p

I am curious how your experience will compare to RTINGS empirical data.

Well shoot. I did not pay enough attention that these are "250 ohm" versions. They are super quiet! I have to crank the headphone volume WAY up on my audio interface. Also the packaging was extremely stupid. The cable goes into/through some box inside the box that was hard to open up enough to be able to get the cable out and the coiled part of the cable was in bag which was taped very tightly shut with tape around the straight bits of the cable just on either end of the coil. It was hard to get scissors in there to cut the tape without nicking the cable. Anyway, I'm trying them out for mixing now and will report on that when I have some experience.

We ordered a pair of AKG closed back headphones with what is apparently our annual big music stuff order this week. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re like compared to our open back Grados.

Aside from the volume/gain issue, I've been using these a lot the last couple days. They're very comfortable, I think the sound quality is really good just anecdotally. We'll see if/how these new mixes translate outside these headphones. I think they're physically easier to wear a long time and mix on than my ATH-M50s.
