the Gibson ES-335 gives me a chubby. ;)

and honestly, what guitarist among us hasn't gone into a Guitar Center and played a Martin D-28 or Gibson Hummingbird, or some gorgeous high end Taylor and not felt the pangs of puppy love.....

Curling up with a good acoustic guitar is my favorite. Sometimes it lets me sing, and sometimes it does my singing for me. I can wrap my arms around it, close my eyes, and just listen to it for hours. I don't get that from my bass... I just sorta tell it what to do and it complies, like a co-worker relationship. (...and am I the only one who thinks teles are hotter than strats?)

I like the Tele's shape and headstock, mine has the old style chrome "ashtray" cover over the bridge and pickup, which I think is esthetically pleasing. But the contoured back and rounded edges on a Strat really add to the playability of the instrument. Like Jack said, when you put one on it just conforms to your body almost like it becomes a part of you.

Sometimes I just open myself up and strum my ribs.

Think it was a dumbrella thread, yeah. And sorry, but I'm picturing a dead Bob Ross noodling along on that axe, rasping out unintelligble (yet very comforting and reassuring) things all the while.

"Whoops! If your finger falls off, that's okay. Just use a little extra of another finger, or explore the new and exciting sounds you can make with the exposed bone nubbin there..."

It's the most wonderful time of the year, sorry.

Yes. And Yes. Oh yes.

when you strap on a strat, it's as if you are spooning your guitar. :)

My Epiphone Dot is the best guitar I've ever owned. (I know there are way better axes out there tho..) When I play it, it reminds me of why I play guitar, 'cuz it often sounds like a good guitar, whereas my previous guitars were all pieces of shit and had me yearning for better sound.

I still yearn, but not nearly as often, and it's more for tonal variety and niche application instead of just a basic solid nice sounding guitar.

As much as I adore Mr Balham, progenitor of this thread, I have to say - six strings is six strings. Anything else is muso crap :)

And your view is the reason they make shitty guitars. There is a market for them. :)

I fell in love with my 335 when I saw it. The price wasn't bad, either. It cold use some work, but it's virtually flawless. I just wish it didn't have 'epiphone' on the headstock.

The nicest guitar I own is my classical. It's worth around $500, and it's probably the one I enjoy sitting around and playing the most.

I am fixated with strats and teles. I almost bought a tele the other day from my store. Like, had it in the case, sitting by the register. But I stopped myself, remembering the million other things I need first. Besides, I'd like a nice strat before a nice tele.

The strat for me is gonna be the 50th anniversary. Two color sunburst, maple fingerboard, with that weird s1 pickup switch. It sing sing sings.

Les pauls don't do it for me. They're heavy, akward, and ugly to me.

I could go on for days.

no, not a lefty, that's the way the strings are arranged. it's meant to be played vertical with both hands, but i'm not so dextrous so i usually play it like a lap steel instead. yes, charcoal, it's a chapman-stick-like guitar, but i think it's better and anyway the chapman people were mean to me. plus they sue the hell out of everyone in the world if they get the chance. so i've got a lovely guitar and it makes excellent sounds.
anyway, you play it by tapping instead of fretting and strumming. it works really well with my e-bow... so, jack, that's my "secret combination"...
so is my guitar dopey? is that what you're saying, mr. bzl?

Not at all, it is very cool, and probably a lot of fun to play with! Imagine one of those faded sepia photographs of southeastern bluegrass bands from about a hundred years ago: a bunch of old guys with Civil War beards and mandolins and banjos. Now picture them all holding your guitar instead: that's what I meant. That sure would look dopey!

an old les paul is the pinnacle of guitar love. there is nothing that compares in tone, playability, or plain sex appeal. plug that into a JCM800, and you are god.

I think you can still buy ones just like mine at Guitar Center for $800, which is a steal for a new Les Paul Studio. I'm still loving mine, and can't believe I've had it over a year already. I need to start recording some more metal songs...
