I think you'll find that both got loads of attention when they came out.

Perhaps Muse got hyped in Europe, but I can say that here in Canada, , they didn't receive much attention nor were promoted that heavily at all.
Or, I missed it. But for sure it was one of my bigger finds of this year and I turned many music lovers on this "unknown" band.
Sadly, the singer's unbelievably similar-to Thom Yorke singing style is unnerving and I'm sure Muse lose out on the Radiohead-wannabe criticism... it was tough for me to get over. But I did.. They are a good band.
Now, I've been really getting into Modest Mouse lately, and I stress lately, 'cuz it's way after everyone else seems to have gotten into it.
However, my top album pick for this year so far (this year meaning I discovered it this year, not when it was released)... Gary Numan's Hybrid double CD.
Unbelievable reworking of some old stuff and some new stuff too. Very dark and nasty.
That's it for now...

Hybrid is an awesome album, and I've got a limited-edition version with an extra DVD of videos and such. Looking forward to watching that.

Justincombustion wrote:I don't care if they ain't hip, I'm diggin Scissor Sister. It's damn good driving music. "There ain't no Tit's on the radio" sounds like a bass line Glenn Case would come up with.
I think the first half of the album (all the singles basically) is fabulous but the Elton John / Supertramp sheen wears down the quality by the end. Having said that, yeah, it does make good driving music. (well passenger ina car, can't speak for the driver.)
I just succumbed today and bought the Clash 25th anniversary version of London Calling (2 cds and a dvd), even though I have the original. So in an act of totally random kindness to celebrate having big income again, I hereby offer my original CD to anyone who a) wants it and b) is willing to wait for me to post it to them. First person to PM me with an address that clearly isn't made up gets it. I'll even pay the postage.
NB I will not post to 'Mickey Mouse c/o the Moon'. Once bitten ...

I am currently really digging <a href="

Hey, I liked the Scissor Sisters a lot - PARTICULARLY the last track, "Return to Oz." Just another opinion, which you all so desperately needed to hear.

Let Down is their big break out track due to it's use in the brilliant Garden State teaser/soundtrack. It's a fantastic song. I also really like Breathe In.

I highly recomend this album. It's not the one with that 'hit' or anything but it's really really good. Suprisingly good actually. I've been waking up to it for a while now. It's good morning music. Very NYC.

There's an extra double quotation mark in your code. That's why your image isn't showing up, I think.

Last night I pulled out Summerteeth by Wilco. It was one of my all time favorite albums when I first got it, but I think I kind of ran it into the ground I would listen to it so much. So now I've rediscovered it, and goddamn it's a fine album. I love Wilco.

OK my band du jour, the best of the punk kids currently sticking it to the British man,
http://www.therakes.co.uk. They are kind of like Franz Ferdinand, but with a more punk ethos. Slightly Fall-esque lyrically.
Check out the video for their new single, Strasbourg. If you like that sort of thing.

The Divine Comedy - 'A Secret History' - is this best of, or the new album? A little bit arch for my tastes, but anyone who wrote 'My Lovely Horse' is a winner in my book.
Crash Test Dummies - 'God Shuffled His Feet' - really??? OK then ... I find deep baritone voices like his don't work over the course of an album, but I am willing to give it a go. Bring it to songfight uk and I'll take a listen.
Goldfrapp - 'Black Cherry' - agree, very good. but my partner plays it all the fricking time, so I am having familiarity pains at the moment.
The Rakes! The Rakes! The Rakes! They're funky, angry, smart and sing songs about the Berlin Wall. And also their bass player is a hottie (if you like that sort of thing).

I'm surprised at myself for saying this, but I've purchased and am currently highly impressed by Green Day's American Idiot.
Very poignant and kick ass. Stellar production, and a real stretch of an album for them.
Good for your collection...

I've been driving around with "Far Edges" by Graham Moses lately... a couple tracks (10%, Word Mines, and Theme for the Homeless) can be downloaded from:
