Yeah, I had the idea it was an anagram, so I was rearranging the letters in my head in the car one day ... thinking it's "case" ... and "shite"... right, but who's the other one? Oh, it's "and" ;)
I now know of 3 different covers of the track... This one, King Arthur's, and one that Roymond did for a coverfight a while back. It actually amazes me how different each one of them is. The robotic vocals and arrangement of this one gives it a driving, almost creepy, neat sound. Thank you, Dollar Bill & the Inkpoints!
You're welcome!
My wife said: "This one is more paranoid than the original" which I took to be a compliment, given the lyrics :)
Neat to hear K.A.'s as well - nice contrast!

The groove on Accelerator is mostly thanks to Scott Westervelt, who sorta runs the recording studio at ASU West, and who recorded a real e-drum part for me so's I could mute the MIDI drums on this one. The studio had suffered something of a meltdown not long before (ProTools stopped talking to the console), or we might've even had real drums on it.

I brought in tracks for drum machine, a couple guitars and the vocal and he recorded the drums (I think we wound up muting the drum machine during the song itself, it was messing with his groove too much) and then I flew that back onto my Yamaha digital recorder and added the rest of the tracks.

Oh hey, I can *finally* ask this now!

Glenn, in your Back From Brazil, first verse, what the sam hill is the line you sing between "In a foreign country" and "Eight nights, seven days"?

This have been driving me batty for more than a while now. And thank you again, for bringing the rock!

I was wondering that as well. I'm hearing it as "knife in my waist." <ow!>

HEH!

The line is: Naive in my ways

And I am not singing the lead on this one, that was DDD's lead vocalist: Chad Smith. I did help to write the song, and I AM playing acoustic guitar, bass, and backup vocals, but I can't take credit for the lead vocal.

Here are the lyrics as I remember them.

Drink Drank Drunk
Back From Brazil

Went there on vacation
I know I needed rest
What I would get into
I never would have guessed
In a foreign country
Naive in my ways
Eight nights, seven days
Back from Brazil

Drank up all the beer
Didn't touch the water
Saw the girls in little thongs
Butts bigger equals hotter
Beans and rice and Jesus Christ
Spread his arms for me
Paid my hotel bill
I'm Back from Brazil

SUN AND SAND AND GIRLS WITH TANS
AND ROWS AND ROWS OF OILY BUTTS
I'M IN RIO!
Back From Brazil

(solo)
(repeat Chorus)

Little by little I
Miss my hotel room
Home is cold but shower's colder
Back from Brazil
Where the party's always jumpin'
Where the girls all wear
nothin'
Back from Brazil

BEANS AND RICE AND JESUS CHRIST
I WANT YOUR VIRGIN SACRIFICE
I'M IN RIO!
Back from Brazil

ROCK!

Ha! Got all the lines but that one. (Had settled on "Ninth in my ways" for the descending numbers with the next line, after trying and discarding such gems as "Nice itchy waist" and "Nights in my days".)

I messed up one of Glenn's lines too. "I need a purpose. Do I deserve this?" became "I need a purpose to walk the surface". In a song about a ghost searching for the reason he came back, that actually works pretty well.

now that's weird... i'm just listening to puce's, and that exact line was on when i was reading it.

Young as you feel lyrics

Okay lyrics as sung and with correct lyric for first line of the bridge as supplied by Glenn.

In Glenn's original I believe he uses a D# open tuning (E dropped a half). Then he uses a variety of standard open tuning chord shapes and "twiddly bits that I could not easily emulate in standard tuning. I had no hope of singing in D# so had to work out an alternative tuning :-)

I put my (interpreted) chords below. Emsus4 is an A with the G and B strings open. I thought is was a form of A but when I ran it through chord checker Emsus 4 is what came up. Rythm is a little more standard than the nice swing that Glenn's version has to accomodate the picking style I decided to adopt.

Great song that I felt special affinity for (being a chap of older years LOL)

Keep bringing the Rock Dr Funk!

Man, am I embarassed about missing the deadline on this one. In my defense, I've been wading through more gear problems than I've ever had. But I think I've got them all worked out now, so I give you the first fruits of my new equipment (actually, it's been mostly done for a while -- it's just that last 5% that was a problem).

Man, C-Hack, you rule. Very nice balance on that mix.

I actually went to your website yesterday to see what you've been up to these days.

Happy Hxaro Glenn! Erin and I also wanted to cover "Need Stilts" (like every other SF! couple, apparently), but we weren't able to get ours recorded in time. After hearing the other covers we decided to finish ours anyway, since we veered a little farther away from the original. Anyway, here it is, we hope you like it:

Thanks Puce!

I actually have been getting back into photography, partially because all my audio gear stopped working at once, and until a couple months ago I couldn't afford to replace it:

But I'm over the initial surge of excitement, and now the music's coming on again.

Glenn,

It was great fun doing this. Thanks for posting the itemized reviews.

BTW, I was able to find the lyrics on Google, probably in their cache of
Dumbrella. I would have done "Failure and Regret" if the original wasn't
already perfect. PERFECT!

Standout tracks IMO were Puce and Hip Cola.

Hey! Who wants to hear a really bad quality recording of a very drunk Australian singing a Glen Case song to a small crowd at a suburban Brisbane pub?

I DO! I DO!

This thread just CONTINUES to provide smiles for me. Thank you, Ray. I know that I don't always agree with everything you have to say, but I really do appreciate this. It's been kind of a tough week, and hearing this performed in a live setting made me happy just now. Thank you.

For the record: I also enjoy the Merisan and C Hack entries. Thank you ALL so much!

ROCK!

Does that make GnR's Need Stilts the most covered song on Songfight?
