"Mariner's Revenge Song" is the one with the whale. "The Tain" is the one that's fifteen+ minutes long, based on an ancient Irish epic. I seen it twice, and it does rock very, very hard live.

When a friend told me about Smoosh I figured them for a novelty act. The band is two girls -one a drummer and the other a keyboardist / vocalist- aged 10 and 12 respectively. Haha, I thought.

Well, today I saw one of their music videos, and by the time the second chorus kicked in I realized that these girls can rock harder than any keyboard/drum duo should have any right to, regardless of age. Turns out they've opened for Pearl Jam and Sleater-Kinney.

As I understand it, their parents are involved in the writing process, both of whom have music backgrounds, not that matters in the slightest, but don't worry too much, Fodroy.

Plus I heard them on the radio the other day. They do not rock. In the slightest. They have a keyboard, for god's sake! They're good, it's impressive, but that's not rock.

In other words, The new Artic Monkeys album is good, but not great. It sounds like a better Libertines to me - not enough variation and too much reliance on diminished and 6th chords to show what sophisticated musicians they actually are.

I checked out their album, and yeah, other than La Pump they do not rock at all. Maybe they were being babysat by the guys from Death From Above when they wrote that one.

Because I think they rock, damn hard! Especially their live performance, it blows away the albums. And the very first album, the EP, Holy Roller Novocaine. Love it!

Mclusky - just one of the most incredible bands I've heard in a while. So intense and hilarious and unsettling and razor-sharp.

oh, yeah. the only live band i've seen who could out-heckle the hecklers.

i'll add xiu xiu to this, too. feeding reverb units into one another rocks so much more than a mesa with a gibson with all the mids sucked out.

PW Long definately RAWKS! I have no Idea how he plays guitar. It's like he's really drunk and just smackin' it around. I tried that once. it didn't work. also, I think i'd rather listen to phil collins than metallica. no joke.

I just (like 20 minutes ago) saw SLOAN play live. I've been a fan for years, but now I've seen them live. Their latest catalog of songs is kind of meh in my opinion, but MAN. They frikkin' rocked it out tonight. So good. SO GOOD. If you've never heard of sloan, p2p up some tunes from 'One Chord to Another' or 'Navy Blues'

I saw them live many years ago, and they were definitely awesome. I love how they trade off who's playing what, depending on who's song their doing. It blows me away that they can all drum, sing, play keys, write good songs, etc.
