How I am handling a money dispute from a live show

Links and other hanky panky that doesn't have to do with anything in particular.

In fact, if they leave early, after you're done, you should get all the money they paid. Bands don't entertain people who already left. Audiences should pay their covers when they leave, so each of the n bands can collect 1/n of the collected covers when they've finished. (or whatever the most equitable model is)

Note: I'm being intentionally stupid. There's obviously no formal system currently in place to disburse the cover charge. If audiences understood that their cover charge money would be so sloppily handled, half of them would have gone elsewhere. Cover charges always feel kind of like extortion to me, anyway; a huge disincentive. Not just because I'm a cheapskate, but because it's just so shady to have to hand cash to some guy on a stool while he pretends to look at your driver's license...

Heh.

The main guy in charge of booking just called me, VERY apologetic about all of this, and VERY pissed off at the promoter/lead guitarist that caused this trouble.

I guess that he normally has a representative from each band come back and count the money for the majority of the shows, but as I had figured, he was dealing with the lead guitarist as a promoter. This was presented as a package deal, and therefore: The promoter WAS in charge of paying us. I guess the venue trusted him too, and they're livid. They figure that this reflects poorly on them, and it certainly could.

This just gets more and more interesting, doesn't it?
