Adnoisium: The delivery of the vocals on the verses is very flat. Baby talk doesn't earn you points. Electric sheep reference does. Short which was a plus. Mediocre.

And the Tentacles: Good band name. Interesting sample. Muddy vocals. Kinda interesting but it does wear you down after a while.

Rone Rivendale: Well, Rone's flow is getting better but it's still not great. The sample this is based on is weak. The spoken word bit is crappy. The keyboard intro was cute but as the ending it was far less cute.

Melvin: I like the main guitar riff but the vocals are too low in the mix on the verses. It's a pretty song but i don't hear a single. What I mean is that it just doesn't stand out with me. The strongest part is the bridge followed by the synth solo but if this was on an album, it would feel like filler. Good but still filler.

Jimmy Jet and his TV set: Welcome back to the grudge era. That's not a bad thing, really. It's not slickly produced like, let's say, melvin, but it has its charm. Acoustic guitar solos are usually nasty to my ears. I usually hate them but this one worked. That's a huge check in their column. I hope to hear more from this band. That was enjoyable.

Chuck the Bear: Danceable rock. Damn that's 80's. Radical. "I can only robot, baby.". That is a superb use of the title. Extra points to y'all. This is a contender for my vote and worth a download. THIS SONG NEEDS A MUSIC VIDEO.

Wages: With that opening, I thought we would be going into some kind of silly prog epic. The verses are fun. The falsetto was painful. The spoken word parts were abysmal. This could been a cool like Sublime-like tune but it fizzled.

Glennny: The vocals need some serious tightening up, especially on "Daughter". The bridge was mildly interesting and the solo was very creative. That helped the song alot. The pitch shifted vocals were annoying. Decent.

Baker: What's with all the talking and pitchshifting today? Anyway, this is the lowest point of the fight for me so far. Even with the switch to acoustic in the middle, nothing could save this. This was a bad idea.

Shex: Bring the roadhouse robot blues, Shex. Nice guitar work. This has a great groove to it. I may download this. Good job.

Division of Suns: It's like techno-industrial meets Cradle of Filth. As some one who experiments in such electronic madness, I kinda dug that.

Cynthia Size & the @eclectic Spoons: Odd. Because of the mix, it took me a sec to get a full grasp of the lyrics which fall in the vein of "Barbie Girl" and "Coin Operated Boy", more the former than the latter. But this is good is in a strange way. In the middle, it gets threadbarren and at the end, the rhythm gets kind of muddy., but it had it's good points. More stuff like this, spOOn. Please.

wwe are smort: A little piece of sloppy old school rap with the classic laughing at your own joke. Very lame.

The FH Project: Okay, I've dug some of the other electronic experiment in this fight but not this one with the bad German accent (if you really are German, I apologize. But if you are, you used your voice in the most horribly stereotypical fashion and you know it, so I don't feel too bad). Footwear, Kinkos and Mash Potatoes. Ugh. That wasn't enjoyable at all.

Pained Memories: The vocals need a lot of work and there was some ugly clipping and the production was just terrible. Three bad songs in a row. Ugh. I hate that.

Friendly Martians, Julie: Pacman in the background is okay. But the rest is just silly. Why would you enter this in a Songfight. Have you heard the calibre of some of the competition?

Cranial Biffida: This has its pluses and its minuses. But it definitely breaks the bad slump. The vocals are a high point. I even dig the dual vocal thing. Five minutes is way long for this tune. This song is dying for a lead guitar. This is one of the better tunes in the fight. I'd definitely give this a couple of spins and would wanna hear more from this band.

Zealous1: Lost in Space reference is a teeny plus. Robots saying badunkadunk is a minus. But this is not bad. Good lyrical flow and halfway decent sample. The "not a robot" thing was cute.

Boochinballs: I was so worried because of that name. This is pretty good. The mix of rock and elctronica works well. The "Picture on the box" chorus is catchy. This is worth a download. Welcome to Songfight, BCB. I hope to hear more from ya.

So<kpupp3t: I'm a sucker for silly pop like Freezepop and High Density does from time to time. And at first, it seemed this song would fall in that vein but the male vocals changed that. It made it a little less enjoyable for me. But it has some good points that out weigh the bad. Nice ending.

Nemphusi: "You smell like Halloween and all the candy is gone. You taste like halogen and I wanna take you home"??????????????????????????? I have no problem with g^2 but if you're gonna do it, the lyrics have gotta be tight and they just aren't here.

Framed: I don't know if it's Reviewer's Fatigue but I have a lot of hate for this song. The back-up vocals are really grating and there some moments where the music gets really sloppy.

Ninja Bachelors: A waltz? This is so mellow that it's putting me to sleep. It needs something more to brighten it up soundwise. It reminds me of a poor man's "I will follow you into the dark" (Death Cab for Cutie). Not bad, just needs brightening.

MC Wreckshin: Nerdcore with a reference to Songfight, but it's almost little too self-reflexive. But the hostage thing was funny. This needs a solid chorus. If you would cut down the chorus into something more bitesize, it would be catchier.

B. Ellison: A simple little rocker. It's refreshing like the Sunkist I just consumed. I like the xylophone a lot. Feels like it ended too soon. I can't believe I said that about any tune.

Muffcake: Beep Beep Squeak-squee. This is the lesser version of the Chuck the Bear song. After a while the beep-beep-squeak-squee gets aggravating. And since that is the foundation for the whole song, the whole thing becomes annoying.

Bear Sqaudron: What have I done to deserve this? My return to reviewing includes this....ugh. ugh. ugh. My computer says this song was supposed to end at 1:05. Why oh why didn't it?

The Slicks: The opening is a jumbled mess. But it grows on ya. It reminds me of bands I used to be in. I like that simple garage punk feel. Not the best song in the fight but definitely listenable. Good job.

Paco Del Stinko: You had me til the Yee-Ha. Kinda like Howard Dean. I really really wanna hear you cover the Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl". I lube her everynight, huh. This is a silly tune with a nifty li'l guitar solo. Good work.

Spacedust: Uh-oh. This is gonna go bad, I know it. I dig the sample but I fear the flow. Yep, it's flat. And this is a 5 minute song. Crap. "Lo-key, Lo-key, Okey-dokey"??????????????? No. That's loathsome.

Luke Henley: "Someday you'll be dead just like the girl who gave you head"? "fu-uh-un"? "dr-i-ink"? The song starts slow and has some odd moments but the song is diggable. I'm downloadable , mostly because Luke is in my band and I think I wanna do something with this song.

Jordan Seavers: I wish the chorus would've went down an octave but I love the horns. That's a very nice touch. This is very well done and a contender for the vote.

My vote is going to Chuck the Bear. Honorable Mention goes to Boo Chin Balls and The Slicks.

It desparately needs the band treatment, good ear my man.

Umm I didn't sample or base the music off of anything that is pre-existing. So I don't know where that came from. If that's not what you mean, then I appoligize.

On later reflection, maybe we should have just entered as "<3 (featuring fluffy)" or something so that we'd come up earlier in the playlist.

Sorry, it's not a sample. That I knew. But I have a nasty habit of calling ever rap beat a sample. But still the beat was weak.

By the way, this is the largest fight ever, with 32 entries. The previous records were Soft Orange Glow and Goodbye Monster, with 31. (Also less-officially, the 15-16 Puzzle hxaro had 31 entries as well, though that is something of a special case.)

Glad someone else has submitted a seriously long review this week, I thought I was going to be in very limited company. Admittably you do need 2 hours to get through all the entries (and a strong stomache)

Don't think I'm going to make this weeks fight due to a serious lack of inspiration on the wedding theme, but I will definatly be back soon.

As for the name, yes it sounds stupid, but there is a reason behind it. My surname is Bucin (I'm of yugoslavian heritage) and noone can ever prenounce it correctly, usually saying Boochin instead of bew-sin. I'd just been watching the southpark ep where Butters get's forced to wear balls on his chin and thought of it as a combination of the two.

Five weeks away from Mainstream SOngFight! and so many new faces... Cool!
anyway reading back through these it's quite obvious that I ran out of steam, but well I tried, if I've been offensive at all then I apologise, so moving swiftly along...

Wages: If the title had been 'Joker Baby' this would work a lot better, excellent vocals, good concept, polished feel, terrific intro, cool outro, 90% of the lyrics make perfect sense but I'm afraid I don't get the 10%, but then again I'm probably being a little thick at the moment, overall I really liked it!

Friedrich Honinghosen Project: Okay a touch more experimental then above, and less easy on the ear, lyrically some interesting points, and some quite bizzare, nice driving almost pnuematic engine room backbeat, this is more of a collection of interesting and obscure sound bytes than a lyrical song, and "The Robot Baby is done with this song" really should be the last line. I'd like to hear future entries from you as this isnt without a strange appeal.

Paco del Stinko: Ah! Paco! vocals sound cleaner than on previous adventures and let's face it 'Robot Baby' isn't a difficult title, but if anyone was going to nail it'd be you guys, very creative, full of feel good moments, (there's a really nice rising guitar line in there somewhere, can't remember when!).
One final point though 219kbs surely you've used that one already (I'm onto your little game!).

Nemphusi: 'Robot Baby you smell like Halloween'?? whiney discordant and obscure (not always a bad starting point) bluesy attempt is admirable but falls slightly shortn of its target.

The Ninja Bachelors: I was expecting three Irish guys darting in and out of the shadows going EeeeYah! what I got was a rather gentle campfire song with some lovely lyrical sentiments... More The Bachelors then the Ninja!

ZeaLous 1: Robotic Rap, "You Bumbling Booby" would have been an excellent complementary sample to use with the "Danger, Will Robinson" one, nicely controlled electro-attack, above average rap-style and lyrics, too short by a mile!

wwe are smort: Traditional Rap, brilliant chorus that if explored could have held a truely wonderful song together, in the end it turned into... just messing about! sorry guys, but up until the "We are Smort" bit it was cool, then it was nonsense.

The Slicks: Pink Military/Siouxsie and the Banshees/The Breeders/The Throwing Muses, I heard them all in this coupled with a touch of soul, the groovy intro needed to be re-visited more possibly during the middle section, cool song lacking a touch of Ooomph!

Pained Memories: Very 'Rone-ish' I pretty much don't like anything about this, especially the howling cookie monster style ending!

Chuck the Bear: Proper song, effortless vocals, good driving beat, what made me stop and take notice here was the fact that the component parts of this track are nothing special on there own, but it's like you'd weaved them together with golden thread, You made me take notice!!! Nice possible ode to 'Peter Crouch' twist to the title too.

Boo Chin Balls: Nice vocal delivery coupled with pretty good lyrics, I started to write that the backing track was a touch annoying, but by the third listen I crossed it out, good track, I like it loads.

Space Dust: I think you've invented a new genre, 'Rap-Audio-Books' have you ever thought about writing novels? this is really good but it's like TOO much!, not too long or anthing like that, just so much dialogue to listen to, reminds me of... (whats that song from the south park album, the I am Gopher boy one?!?)... good story, good electro 'toe-ins', is that a Prince sample (sorry not a prince fan!).

Framed!: This starts out really well but kinda loses itself after "Stretches to Infinity" finishes nicely too, I'd like to like this more (yeah I know thats a cop-out, sorry!) I'll be listening for your next entry.

Shex: Sorry if this seems dismissive, but there's nothing wrong with this track, it just seems to pass me by, even after three listens, nothing jumps out at me, I don't dislike it but after listening to all the songs there are some I can remember, some I want to forget and the others, this is in the others category... sorry guys thats not much use to you.

spOOns: One fucked up Glockenspiel, a robot singer, probably my most accessable thing so far, yep a little repetative!

Cranial Biffida: Somebody had to bring the rock, and here it is, very Garbage-esque, (go on, try sing the refrain "Queerest of the Queer" to this), excellent track.

Glennny: Song is a little marred by the slighly muffled vocals (it's only slight mind) there are some really cool percussion moments, and is quite a nice listen, but not standing on the desk shouting "vote for me", robot baby vox are a cool addition.

Muffcake: I think you forgot to reset something from last week as you song is titled 'Plastic Rose' on it's tag, but what the hey! quite cool really and for some reason it reminds me of 'Rio' by Duran Duran, though or the life of me I don't know why.

Bear Squadron: The first three seconds had me licking my lips in anticipation of some seriously electro-doo-wop, after that it was rather...horrible!

Baker: I fully understand the reasoning behind the effect on the vocals during the spoken/rapped part, although they were slightly off-putting, the odd little singing bit was like... What!/Why? this could work nicely as the prologue to Space Dust's story.

Division of Suns: Quite like the sub-Gigantor cartoonish feel, and the use of the Robocop noises, the little girl spelling OX is good too, above average electro-collage.

And then... Tentacles!: Great Name, Hideous sub-Rone nonsense over video game sequence.

Adnoisium: I just keep thinking this is going to break into 'Tainted Love' the hypnotic stylings are not working here I'm afraid.

MC Wreckshin: Hey listen a rapper, rapping about how good he is at rapping and who his enemies are... The (Chorus???) part is good though.

Friendly Martians, Julie: God Sorry! but no!, this is annoying and thankfully short.

Melvin: A bit mummbly and mourneful for you Melvin, also takes quite a while to get going and to get to the point, but is rakes better then the previous seven tracks, probably a grower.

Jimmy Jet and his TV Set: Shows promise mate! take a listen to 'Wages' first few entries, this has a similar raw appeal that sets it apart from the normal G&G stuff, lyricall well constructed.

B. Ellison: Nice melodic, easy on the ear style, good drumming, lovely harmonics, maybe works itself up to become a little jarring around mid-song, but good nonetheless.

Jordan Seavers: *Note to self: don't mention the sweet vocals* Really sweet vocals as usual (Damn!) not really your best as far as I'm concerned the Wheep Whoop noises dominate too much, but very electro-steve durand by the end, generally cool track.

So<kpupp3t: Really cool vocals, love the trademark 'doots' a touch hurried in places, but excellent work.

Rone Rivendale: Somebodys been listening to the advice given... (shock horror, whatever next!) cool track dude! you let yourslf down during the slower points, but I'd say the first minute is really rather good!

Luke Henley: Painful in places Luke, great in others, lyrically very astute as always.

I'm probably going to vote for 'Cranial Biffida' but Chuck/Paco/Wages/Slicks/Boo Chin and so<kpupp3t were all up there.

If you can not take criticism, do not put your songs on a website called SongFIGHT.

People have opinions, and they will express those opinions in these review threads.

There is not a musician alive who is liked by every music listener.

Not everyone is going to like what you do, and even less people will give you good reviews to be "nice."

Even if they do, is that really going to help you improve if you've been duped into believing that you are already at the top of your craft?

I'm going with the "I wanted it left to interpretation" bit. I realized, lyrically, it was clunky and needed my ideas to be more clear, but I was tired so I wussed out.

Excellent. I like the whole image you guys are setting up. It works. I loved the ending. Reminded me of Impaled Northern Moonforest. Keep this shit up. The whole incoherent thing, being delusional about your sound, and definitely do more of the cookie monster thing.

Glenn Case

How do you follow Glenn Case, with anything? I took notes last night but no way could I have written this by the time I was done listening. Lots of scruff in this fight.

Adnoisium - Clean and right to the point, it feels tossed off.

And Then Tentacles - I like how it builds as it goes although the vocals disappeared as it went too. I like the rubbery throb underneath.

Baker - Some of the script is good as are the blippy-bloops. Some of it meanders. Pick a few ideas and work them out. Sounds good though.

Bear Squadron - Silly, but not very enjoyable. Yet quick and easy to do!

B Ellison - I like how it unfolds, nice structure. Some good sounds as they show themselves. Could be smoother performance and production-wise, but a good song.

Boo Chin Ballls - Good thick, fuzzy sounds that vary just enough. Well arranged and performed. I like what the vocals do, mostly. It feels a little long at the end, mostly because of the jumpy rhythm.

Chuck The Bear - Good intro into a serious in tone rocker - nice. Perfect for early MTV days video ala Greg Kihn Band or fast driving. Excellent singing and playing on all instruments. Serious sounding but much fun.

Cranial Biffida - Cold yet fashionable, it's not a rusty robot. Chromed and well oiled. Could be trimmed considerably.

Cynthia Size and Eclectic Spoons - Some nice atmosphere initially. I like some of the sharp turns the melody takes and the the middle part is prettier than it may at first appear. A little more warmth might put some Stepford sunshine on it all.

Division Of Suns - More lazer beams and destruction for this, I think. I liked the early parts best. Some neato sounds.

Framed! - The feel is off but the layers are good ideas. The bass wanders a bit in the middle. I think a clean guitar, like at the end, would've better served this throughout.

The Friedrich Honighosen Project - I like this, except for the backwards thing that comes and goes. It could take a dramatic turn in the middle for impact. Sounds like a Bond villain going on before unsuccessfully killing 007.

Friendly Martians, Julie - One of my favorite progressions, covered with crayons. Its brevity saves it from being painful.

Glenny - Insane arrangement. The vocal ideas are good with the best lines being the ones with the fewest leaps in the melody. Guitars are fantastic. The percussion is on the clangy side, for me, but I like its charge.

Jimmy Jet And His TV Set - A more relaxed performance, not casual, and with a one-time bridge would bring this a little higher.

Jordan Seavers - I always enjoy the colors that accompany your songs. Really dig the relatively dry production here. The loopy keys sound good at the intro and again half way in. Sweet bits on the bridge are very nice.

Luke Henley - Very good. It almost feels too dense in the middle, but so many good lines and images. A repeat of the line "I'm really feeling now" a couple of times at the end might give this a poppy type hook if ever re-done.

MC Wreckshin And Oddioblender - I like the minstral melody in the intro and the first several heys. A couple a rapid fire lines and a time trim would help this from wearing down so much as it goes.

Melvin - I like the stripped down sound here and the (too?) clean guitars. The big guitars are expected, but don't crowd the excellent main vocal. Perhaps this isn't hook laden, but it's not overdone and captures a lot of feel. Could you play the keyboard leads way up on a guitar?

Muffcake - I like this a lot. It's goofy and has its share of shaky bits, but the no bullshit layers and simple phrases are near perfect. A smoking tempo would aslo work with this, but the pace here is fun.

Nemphusi - Under-rehearsed and scruffy, the Pixies/Blues feel works well under some good lyrics. Don't clean off too much dirt, just enough, performance wise, to let this move a little more freely.

The Ninja Bachelors - Nice dry recording, mixed backwards. The tempo is nice and patient for this traditional sounding tune. I think the leads might be better w/o the bends - high chords might keep it stately. Nice voice and guitar sound.

Paco - Good donated lyrics. I cranked this one out pretty quickly.

Pained Memories - I don't believe that all of the dissonance here was intentional. The vocals and chaos suggest inexperience. A little more patience would've helped out here.

Rone Rivendale - I like the Gladitorial intro, but not the auto-pan. Improved vocal rhythm and cadence. Could use a time edit.

Shex - A little unsure in parts, it's got a nice mood to it. I like the progression and Zappa-esque vocal delivery. The whole thing with a pinch more smoothness would be excellent.

The Slicks - Not as together as it could be, this has great feel and mood. The attitude helps sell it as does the very live sounding performance and recording. I like moody club rock.

So<kpupp3t - Big and full, it doesn't get overly dense. The layers are great. I'd like to hear a variation on the melody or chord structure. Well done, it's more than enough by the end.

Spacedust - I like much of the vocal phrasing but some of the delivery feels a bit flat. I got tired of the descending progression despite the just vocals and drums parts to break it up. What an epic story, Crates. Oops!

Wages - I really like the weirdness the best. Metal Jim Morrison meets Jerry Lewis! Neat atmosphere and the jumping from character to character is good.

WWE Are Smort - Too loose, the first half has some good riffs and grooves.

Zealous1 - I like the sounds and loops, solid and full. Lacking some dynamo in the vocals and it could use a couple of slices of color in the middle. End is kind of creepy which is always good.

Only a handful stand tall here but something to offer from all, even if just a rough idea. I can not vote for myself and have whittled it down to about three. Thanks for sharing, people.
