i've always liked roy's idea and hope that might still materialize.
and atlanta is a cool town, if not in temperature in august. find us something in buckhead.
and there's sven's offer of bumfuck, canada.
(which i personally like. not bumfucks but canada)
but wherever it is, i hope to make it somehow.

Unlikely I'll be making it back in '07 - though one never knows - and a Canadian venue would certainly be attractive (and for all intents and purposes - I am counting Vermont as Canada too).
Atlanta sounds a bit too much like Brisbane. If I want to spend time in a stinking, hot, humid city full of rednecks*, I don't need to cross the Pacific to do it - it's right at my front door!
(*NB: That may not be entirely appropriate - I must confess, my entire knowledge of the demographics and socialogical make-up of the US' Southern states comes from watching The Dukes of Hazard. I was actually very disappointed to learn that JB didn't sound anything like Sherriff Rosco P Coltrane. Or even Boss Hogg. And I only saw him wearing long trousers, so I didn't get a chance to compare his legs to Daisy's)

Seriously.
That's because he is a transplant. He's originally (at least to my knowledge) from Pennsylvania.Caravan Ray wrote:I was actually very disappointed to learn that JB didn't sound anything like Sherriff Rosco P Coltrane.
Anyway, to actually Add to this discussion I will remind everyone that Indianapolis is the "Crossroads of America". Fairly centrally located, metropollitan like Hotlanta but without the high(er) crime rate, and perhaps (although I will admit it's hit or miss) not as hot in August. Maybe not as attractive as a barn, but I know this guy that has a pretty nice multi-level deck that's kind of appealing and set right on the river. I also might be able to work some actual venues, as in bar type venues.

If we meet in Atlanta, can we do it earlier in the summer? June perhaps when it is a little cooler? Otherwise, heat isn't really a reason to avoid a city. Austin and Boston were both plenty hot and humid.

I would schedule it when the group wants to come.
My own personal summer schedule usually involves a trip to SFL, so that time and that expense would go into hosting it instead.

Depends on the humidity. I used to live in Mt Isa on the edge of the Simpson desert. It was always nicer there when it was 113 F (45 C) and 0% humidity, than it is in Brisbane at 89 F (32 C) and 100% humidity.Bjam wrote:89 in July? That's not that hot. PA gets hotter than that in the height of summer. And, as you said, air conditioning.

I love it when people bring up the humidity factor, like when they say Arizona is a dry heat. Dry heat, WTF does that mean anyway? I was in Arizona in July a couple of years ago and the average high temperature that week was about 110. Seriously, that was the average. It felt hot to me. There were these hanginig hoses everywhere with little holes poked in them to spray you down with water to "cool" you off. I don't think it helped at all. You could stand under them for an hour and be out from under them for like 3 seconds and be completely dry. If you looked closely enough you could actually see the water being pulled away from your body into the air as if the air itself was dying for a drink.
Tell you what if anyone really thinks that humidity is that big of a factor go run your oven up to about 110 and stick your head in there. That's a dry heat right? Now lower it to 85 and put a bowl of water in there for a while. Was the waterless 110 really better than the humidified 85?
Of course, through some freak of nature thing I don't have any pores to sweat through so maybe that's the issue for me. I'm kidding of course, I have pores, I just don't sweat all that much. Come to think of it heat doesn't really bother me all that much either.
What was I on about? Oh Yeah......
Atlanta works for me. Maybe I could use it as a landing point on my way to see some friends in Florida anyway.

I've spent a significant chunk of my life living and working on equatorial atolls and in tropical rainforests, as well as in tropical deserts and semi-arid areas. Trust me - humidity is a factor.Dan-O from Five-O wrote: Tell you what if anyone really thinks that humidity is that big of a factor go run your oven up to about 110 and stick your head in there. Here's another experiment. Heat your oven to 212 F and put your hand in for 2 seconds. Then plunge your other hand into boiling water. See which feels better.

If the temperature and humidity are your number one and two factors in determining whether or not to attend a live SF event, I would recommend you stay home. Most of you never leave the (air-conditioned) practice area anyway.
Plus it's December. I don't know why Bjam thought now was a good time to generate this conversation, but it seems awfully early to be talking about this. But since we are, I'll put in my vote for Atlanta so I can see JB's new house, root against the Braves in their own back yard and be relatively assured that Hoblit will be present.

atlanta would be good.
i would also like to sing the praises of chattanooga (seriously), but I don't currently have the wherewithall to actually organize anything. definitely a location to consider in a couple years.
