I was planning on being in for this next one, but then I realized ... diploma exams in 2 weeks. I have to study, especially chemistry. I'll see you guys after that.

Lyric rewrite tomorrow morning, due to sudden inspiration, but the (non-vocal) tracks are down -- and it ends with a uke solo that will shred your face like a coconut.

Minty,
It looks like you are on the cutting edge. The paper today had an article about how the uke is making a comeback in pop music.

And check out this guy.

I plan to be in. My brother clearly has too much [clap clap] time on his hands.

See, that's what I keep trying to tell him, the uke rocks. The way I play, I could clip two strings off of my guitar and sound the same, LOL.

That guy in the video was smoke'in! Good find Steve.
His ears even lit up with the sun behind him when he turned just right.

Breathe deeply - fresh stink submitted, and auto-respond received. I'll post lyrics after the songs are up. Cheers!

I had to give my ears a rest. Mine is done and just needs a good mix down. I have a horrible low tone that's randomly clipping the meter and I'm having trouble isolating it.
Although "woman on paper" is all recorded on tape, I'm about 60% on board with my digital set up. So for now, you SF'rs will have to deal with pops, clicks and mud for a little longer, lol. But, my future's so digital I gotta wear shades. Image

Unfortunately for you all, I'm in for this with a song that'll make the baby Jesus weep and song fight reviewers shut their computers off in disgust after about 1:20 of the track!

I'm in with a solo effort. :) It sounds very little like the original demo I posted in the collab offer thread. I've been reading a book about mixing (I'm on page 27 of 285), so I've only read concept, but I have been working with panning and EQ, and have also been working on adding extra parts to the song (beyond VCVC and the ever popular VCVCVCV). :) Sooooo.... if anyone can give me specific suggestions on my panning and EQ (after you have listened to the song!), that would help me a great deal.

I know my lead work needs work, but I think it is coming along. I can almost play two guitar parts in time with the drums now!!! (Guitar Hero helps me to be able to play faster; thank Jesus and his corporation America for Santa Claus!)

I smell a ukefight coming up! Posted to sidefight forum, if you've got a uke, go sign up. As for that youtube guy, yeah, he's out of his mind. I'm strictly a rhythm player, and an inexperienced one at that. If the uke movement comes to songfight, I'm in trouble -- if everyone's special for their uke playing, then nobody is. Heh.

looks like I'm gonna have to buy a ukelele.

Flea should play one - that would be "funny."

I'm in.. this one didn't turn out very well. I had a lot of equipment problems. Lo-fi, lots of weird artifacting..major gain issues. I hope you like the song for the spirit. I already know the mix is bad.

My "a woman on paper" entry is in, and has an unfinished chorus* -- I recorded a scratch, and was in the middle of a real take when I woke my son up. Decided that being a father trumps polishing the track. Oops.

On the bright side, the grunge uke solo lives, albeit in stadium-rocking form, and I didn't do a bad job for my first time out with a "real" guitar. I hope you all like garage band style. No prizes will be given for figuring out which parts are uke and which are guitar.

*this is not a plea for sympathy, and is provided here for information purposes only. it's not a bad take; I just sound too much like frank zappa for my own good.

In. I think it's pretty good. i wish I was better at mixing and/or and $1000 microphones.

The Hand Puppets are busy recording some of our preexisting stuff this week, so we're skipping this week's fight.

Unfortunately, I am submitting my own song as Steve Hand Puppet and His Poorly Considered Solo Effort.

Sorry.

Lesson #1: I should not wait until the last day to record everything.
Lesson #2: I should not sing. Ever.
Lesson #3: I should not wait to write the lyrics until immediately before recording them.
Lesson #4: Drum loops that sound like programmed drums kinda suck.
Lesson #5: Building a song from the drums and bass up paints you into a corner where you have to use assjazz chords :(

In another thread I New-year-resolved to do 19 fights this year.

Make that 18, baby.

No. Everyone should sing as much as they can, just maybe not when other people can hear, that's all. And recording it is a bad idea too, you never know when it might resurface.

I'm in. I really like this song, but I was getting some horrible low tones on the mix down that I had to isolate piece by piece, but I couldn't totally remove them or it would effect the over all mix and I didn't have time to re-record because I collaborated with Spoon also this week. So it's kind of dirty, but that's how I like it. 8) Maybe the recording and mastering guru's can give me some pointers after you hear what I'm talking about.
...oh, and I made it a math quiz to figure out the ages of my subjects in this song, lol.
