Jim,
try using google on the titles. see what pages come up.
search for news articles containing the words.
i would have suggested lexical freenet, but it's down right now.
think about alternate meanings for the words in the title.
ask your daughter the first things that come to mind when she hears the titles.

From the Skating Weekly Fun Gazette:
"The Lone Ranger and Tonto brought home the gold in a doubles figure skating competition last night, winning by default after The Phantom tested positive for steroids and was disqualified. His partner Devil could not be reached for comment."

I'll probably be around and about these fights. I'm hoping to pull off my first ever duet, and also there may be some devo-action too. However I
am of the opinion that both are suck titles, and were four years ago, so I may hold off

I ell oh ell-ed when I saw the titles and optional challenge. Very very cool indeed. An old jazz guy might even call it 'hip.'
So, hopefully I'm in this week.

Oops, italicized the wrong word. that should of course read '
I am of the opinion ...'
Hey one of my greatest pleasures is peeving.

So what's this optional challenge thing about? Is it connected to the other titles, or can you do anything you like at 64kbps in mono?

In the course of writing a song for either the Blue fight or the Green fight, you can do the "optional challenge" as well. But you still have to write for Zero to Phantom or ABCD Puppies.

I've suddenly realised this is a ten day fight. Good one. Now I have no excuse... I shall be attempting a Zero to Phantom thingy.

No, that doesn't mean you have three options, namely...
(a) 'Zero to Phantom'
(b) 'ABCD Puppies' and
(c) a song of any title at all, encoded to 64kbps
...from which you can choose one, two or all options.
It means you have two options for song title, namely...
(a) 'Zero to Phantom' and
(b) 'ABCD Puppies'
...from which you can choose one or both, though if you choose both they must be two seperate songs. AND, whether you do one or two songs, each has the option of being encoded to 64kbps, but only for this week. Next week the optional challenge will be something different. Even though for this week only, the competition lasts ten days, and not one week.
It's such a simple concept, why is the syntax for expressing it so complex?
ANYWAY...
I'm in collab with Andy Balham this week, provided I can come up with some kind of lyric for either of the fights.

You can't do both, it's against the rules.

It's not. Honestly

The wording of the optional challenge is purposely left as vague as possible, I think, in order to allow people to interpret it in ways that might not have been obvious to the person who thought up the challenge. Also, to encourage posts to the messageboards where people correct others by saying the same thing as the person they correct. Both these things are amusing.

No! 15-16's got it all wrong. It's so that we can laugh at the people that say they're correcting each other when they're actually agreeing.

ABCD, Puppies would make a cute title to a song for the "kiddie compilation" thread I saw someone had going on a while back. :::shrugs::: Just a thought.

Back in the days of songfight.com, 64kbps/mono was the format, just as nowadays the suggested format is 128kbps. Old-school titles, old-school challenge. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed already in this very short thread.
Jesus.

songfight's other motto is "interest through ambiguity"

As I recall, there's no actual rule against it, but there is a guideline to the effect that you shouldn't enter more than one fight with the same band lineup. So if you're as yourself in red, and in collab in blue, that's okay, provided you don't dominate songfight by doing it all the time.
I rather hope so anyway, because that's what I've done this week.

Both of these titles are pretty bad, so I'm going to take the phantom one and sneak a title reference into a song. Deal with it. :)

Consider it dealt with.

You know, you don't
have to enter
every time, if you don't want to. I'm not complaining, because it will certainly be a pretty good song; I'm just, you know, sayin'.
