Well, damn. I have an RCX in my room safe (the fuckers didn't steal that!) trying to get time at night to learn it. So now I have to remember to talk with you about how you went about that little show, cause there's a couple dads and moms of friends of my son who want to do something similar.

Maybe they just like making robots but not organizing events. I would think you're probably a rare individual if you like making robots out of Legos and interacting with other people, let alone creating situations where you will have to interact with other people.
yeah, thats basically why it make me sad. It sounds like you built up something you really loved, and basically had someone else ruin it (probably with no ill-will, just from disintrest). One of the journos i work with has a similar story. Just replace 'lego battles' with 'footy magazine' and you have a carbon copy of the events. Whats more of a shame is that this kind of thing seems to happen so often.

I'll tell you what you did wrong. You put up with this shit. You did everything for everybody. It would be better to dump it in their laps. These are grown people you are dealing with. If they can't take responsibility for the community then I don't want to be here around them. It's an insult to me as a member. They are telling every other member here that they refuse to accept their responsibilities.

As administrators the very first priority is to train and raise up leaders and establish forms that perpetuate the community.

Regardless, eventually the members are going to have to face the facts. You and JB are not going to be here forever. It will be dumped in their laps and it will not be easy. The larger the membership, the more difficult it will become. It is best to begin practicing now while there are fewer member.

If I were administrator, I would serve and then I'd walk away from it. But I would leave behind me tried and true traditional forms that allow the average member to manage things.

Do you have a Statement of Purpose?

Legobots! I had a robotics class in grad school and one of the projects was to program the bots... that was a heck of a lot of fun. We had to have search, communication, and navigation... good stuff.

Frankie, I think that you are correct. Some people are organizers and some are not. Some are into the showmanship of the public event and some are just into the subject matter, whatever it might be. It is possible that I was the only one who cared about the public events, but I doubt it. I was just the only one who cared enough to actually do them, and that's OK.

These people liked the events. They competed it them. But they let them die. Probably because they were more interested in robots, as you say.

Oust, most people around here are more interested in writing, playing, and recording music than running a website. And by the way, that's what we do. Run a website. The community has formed itself. It can do whatever it wants.

What I learned from the RCX experience is the opposite of what you suggest. I did dump it on them. It died. We should take it slow, run it as long as we are still interested, hope that another generation will come along eventually, but don't count on it. Groom them, guide them, mentor them. Walk away VERY SLOWLY and carefully

However, I appreciate your perspective on this matter, and the fact that you bothered to respond with a coherent post.

The thing is, Leaf, Spud's gotta be Spud. You ain't gonna keep him from caring. 58% of the people responding to this poll so far tell him to ignore Oust, but instead he ignores them and continues to try to engage him in a dialogue.

Enter JB or not to B doing the "Ignore" thing by addresssing Leaf instead of me and speaking about Spud.

What's your excuse, JB?

BTW, you have over 700 members and 675 are ignoring you and your crapass idea of a poll.

The greatest deterent to the progress of this community is caused by the bottleneck at the top.

Asshat. That was me. Didn't you recognize your own joke?

675 people can't be arsed to respond to a poll, and you want us to turn over the running of the site to them? That's a good one. In fact, I think I am about to laugh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yes, a good one indeed.

Jackass. I don't tell jokes. I just tell the truth. That's why you don't like me. You know I am not joking.

I do like you, Oustie. As I have said before, if you would have come in here with the same ideas and presented them without trying to kick down the doors, shit all over the floor, and burn the place down, we might have been pals.

Alas, you are no likely to change than am I.

You're right about that. I don't have 200 pounds of excess weight to have to work off a big fat ass that's draggin' on the floor.

I like you too, Pudgy. You should join the Ousters. You're big enough to fill up 3 places on the membership roster. Of course, you'll have to pay for 3 memberships because it will cost us more to seat you at the restaurants we meet in.

OH. I didn't mean it. Come back, Pudge. Without you I am just a lonely miserable nobody of a stinking smelly troll on the Internet.

(Fuck. Shit. I shouldn't have laid it on him so thick)

Pudgy Pudding and Pie, don't be mad.

The last time Oustie Boy was here, he claimed to have finished copying the archives. They were going to go into his Democratically run website that he was going to setup to compete with SongFight. A few people specifically stated they did not grant him permission to use their songs. Most people said nothing. So if taken at his word, Oustie Boy had the means, motivation and the material to go setup another site. Most of the people who responded to him suggested they would be eager to see the results.

The result? Nothing, nada, dick.

It's like watching the guy on the ledge who says he's going to jump. Some of us watch and wait for the big splat. But the big splat never comes. After a while everyone leaves realizing what a big waste of their time that was.

I have copied the site and can do whatever I want because it is now my private property. Don't you remember? That's how JB and Spud made it their private property.

Are you jealous because you're not invited, blowboy?

Ooops, I forgot the part of the story where the guy on the ledge starts hurling childish insults when everybody leaves.
