And Eric Clapton. My god. Writes one song and arranges it a thousand non-discernible ways. (THIS IS ONLY AN OPINION and I DO NOT ADVOCATE ERIC CLAPTON BASHING...oh, wait a minute...)
Yep, you get my vote - Eric Clapton is dull and Cream were a pack of wankers.
I don't get Hendix either.
Don't start me on Pink Floyd.
The Shins have about one or two good songs - but generally just sound like a pack of whiny tossers.
Granddaddy are the most boring band I have ever heard.
Belle and fucking Sebastian. WTF?

Who has ever said he was a great guitarist?

yeah, I know what YOU meant. I think he's over rated period.
Bob Dylan, terrible guitarist, could barely sing, and could NOT play the harmonica. Still did pretty good for himself. Over rated, some might say so. I think he was great.
three words: Lay lady Lay (is that technically only two?)
While were at it, Ringo Starr? I always thought that if you could be IN and keep up with The Beatles it meant that you were pretty darn good. How many drummers you know get one lead vocal song per album anyways? I know, completely unrelated, but I thought I'd spill some more blood while I had the floor.

What I get out of what you posted, is that you are clearly not a person who appreciates or feels music at this point in time. You're looking for a written explanation? Elightenment? Get out of your ego, and listen to music without competing with it.
Genuinely, thankyou.
I'm pretty sure I have a crap appreciation of music, everyone tells me so, but you're the first person to suggest a way to improve it.

No, sorry. I was wrong. I was remembering a documentary, but it was either about the drummer, Pete Best, or the Bassist Stuart Sutcliffe.

This is one of several examples as to why Arcade Fire rules.

I think Dylan is not a terribly amazing singer, but (even beyond his songwriting) we could all take a clinic from him in how to turn a mundane voice into an instrument of power. Incidentally I think Mason Jennings out-Dylan's Dylan in that respect.

I think Arcade Fire is terrible on record but a lot of fun live.

I think Sharon Lois and Bram have a lot to answer for.

Whats funny (or very UNFUNNY) is that Paul McCartney could have been the 'other guitarist' because he only picked up the bass upon Stuart's untimely death.
In other news, Pete Best pretty much screwed himself while young Richard Starkey was in the right place at the right time

I don't think anyone has ever praised Dylan as a guitarist or singer, but rather as a songwriter, for which I think he deserves every credit. Now his son Jacob, that guy has an awesome voice, and has done a lot of great work.

Paul is an awesome guitarist, and even did many of his own solos near the end.

There's a rather extensive interview with McCartney in the current New Yorker (the one with Tony Soprano on the cover).
For the more literary minded, there is also a long article by Gunter Grass on his military service in the SS (which, if I remember correctly, came as a rather shocking surprise to many of his readers when it was revealed).

I'm going to pretend you didn't call Slayer overrated and then praised Jakob Dylan. Because if my reality were such that you had, I would be forced to swear war on you.

Frank Zappa was a talent, but he's also responsible for some of the worst, most indulgent music of the last forty years.
