I sent in my Nur Ein song and ate a nice chunk of my sis' chocolate K (with permission of course). I also bought Van Halen (the self-titled one), Phil Collins (... But Seriously) and Porcupine Tree (Fear of a Blank Planet). They also had In Absentia, which is tough to find, but I didn't have enough cash ... I am really enjoying PT: FOABP, but I'm still just getting into Deadwing. Drumming to that cd is harder than you might think - some tricky time sigs.

I had "Awake" tea and an onion bagel toasted with cream cheese. I love coffee, but I usually only drink it on weekends, because evidently one of the myriad joys of aging is increased caffeine sensitivity. Not that I'm that old.

Worked for 2 hours then went to the gym to swim. I'm a terrible swimmer, but striving to get better -- and one of the perks of my work's new building (in addition to the space pod) is this in-house super-nice gym. (Now if they could only invest in a few more bike racks.)

It is so beautiful here! Think 'm going to try and hunt down some cheap alfresco dinner option.

So.....what constitutes a terrible swimmer, do you sink occasionally? :P

Okay, so we're way behind on watching the Sopranos, but on the episode we were watching tonight, A.J. is all depressed about his fiancee breaking up with him and he's moping around... Tony comes in to talk to him and the discussion goes something like:

A.J.: I'm just so depressed about it all...

Tony: Okay, you've got the blues. There's a twenty billion dollar a year industry devoted to that.

A.J.: The Prozac industry?

Tony: No, the music industry...

Tiny bits, dude, but like all good things: Aggregate!
It's a fascinating window into the mundanity that binds us all.
I eat this shit up like buttered hams.

Which one, if you don't mind the quizzin'?
Who's got the 10 1/2 is my favoritest Black Flag, but most people think I am dumb for saying so.

Pretty good compared to what? is it new? Should I give it a peek? I Doug (har har) all of the Alpha Flight I've ever read.

I was listening to My War and Loose Nut. "Nothing Left Inside" has to be my favorite Rollins song. Even more emotionally wrenching than "Liar."

Heh... No, I'm slow, and also sort of spazztastic with my breathing. I've finally trained myself to be able to breathe on the LEFT side as well as the right. (Oooh! that means I can breathe every THREE beats! A waltz!) Now I'm trying to work on keeping my head lower in the water.

In other news, KA, that scene cracked me up too!

C and I failed to find outdoor eats last night. We tried this Thai place we'd heard good things about called Pok Pok. They had a promising-looking patio, but on arriving and requesting outdoor seating they cautioned us, "Now, just so you know, you can only get 'shed food' outside." Hmmm. It's possible that "shed food" is delicious, but we were too perplexed and hungry to delve further into this mystery and opted for indoor food.

It was disappointing indoor food. The papaya salad was yum, but the curry was a greasy bland mess. Blarf. I might have forgiven the place, but add to the mediocre food some odd affectations -- "Ah! Have you dined with us before? No? Well, here's our menu, and our mission statement." Mission statement? Are they going to show us a powerpoint presentation of their business plan with dessert? Weird. I don't think we'll be going back. Portland has plenty of GOOD Thai food!

The snooty tendrils of the Pearl are spreading into other 'hoods! (That will mean nothing to non-Portlanders). Yeah, Auntie, from what I've heard it's an up & coming scenester place.

But mostly it's another place for Daria (105-something? fm) to be seen stuffing her face and picking up on young boys.

Exactly! C was complaining, "Jeez, in a few years, all of Portland is gonna be another San Francisco." I think this assessment is perhaps a little too hard on SF...but I definitely know what he means.

To Pok Pok's credit, their drinks looked potentially yummy, although we didn't try 'em.

That is my preferred rhythm. The breath-every-3-strokes method helps keep you going in a straight line if you are swimming somewhere without a black line on the floor
