There was this great magazine article that I read in the last month about building speaker stands. Seemed a fantastic solution. I am on the road (LA and San Jose) but will be home Thursday and see if I can find the article and turn it into a pdf for you. Much cheaper than retail and extremely effective by all accounts.

I did a google <google search is your friend!!> and found an article that is identical to the written one although the article has considerably more detail of materials and how to. The key is the sand in the pipe to create the dead column. Plus you can paint them to fit your studio decor ;-)

Yeah, I'm still getting used to the whole flat response thing. I never knew how much things were being colored prior to listening to something like these. It's almost like having to retrain the ears. Plus the whole studio is still coming together. I'll be interested to see what some acoustic treatment of the room does both to my listening space and the recording rooms.

Again, the overall value is what's impressed me the most. Monitors can get real expensive real fast, so to have gotten what I got at under the $350 mark continues to make me smile everytime I turn them on.
