My favorite drummers (speaking as a keyboard drummer ):

Dave Abbruzzese - Great sounding kit, lots of cymbal action, and 32nd notes to die for.
Jack Irons - The kit feels wider, more organic; between this and his playing, the sound can be very soothing, even when rocked.
Stacey Jones - Had me hooked in the Letters to Cleo years, and it turns out he can write some pretty good tunes too. Bonus. Plus, he's a guy. Named Stacey. What's not to like? (Please don't ruin this for me ).
Whoever drummed the "Love and Addiction" track of Counting Crows demo fame - Maybe it's just the song, but I really like this style.
Ian Browne - Why'd he have to split from the MG camp?

After looking at this list, it's clear I'm biased toward 32nd notes, and Pearl Jam drummers. Surely equipment, production, and the song itself play a part too.

Before someone asks, I respect Matt Cameron for his skill, and his willingness to mess with strange time signatures. What kills me is that he's got all this skill, and can crank out some mad drummage, but (to me) it feels passionless.

Should be required listening for any and all. I mean TIE THEM DOWN AND MAKE THEM LISTEN OVER AND OVER AND OVER! There is so much happening on this album. My sister and I used to run around the house singing various songs from this, much to mom's delight (I was 8 at the time).

The Beatles' White Album came out in '68 as well. That WAS a good year.

As was I, darling, as was I. I checked every album via google. SNF is definitely on the December '78 Best-selling Albums list in both the UK and the USA, but *whisper it* the internet could be wrong.

Jim, I just listened to Gershwin's piano roll of "An American in Paris" and I understand where you're coming from in that over "Rhapsody in Blue" now. I don't think I'd make the same decision, but wow, both are pretty damn amazing.

I came up with a list of the best things to ever happen to music yesterday:
