Phenol Red is commonly used in the swimming pool business for checking pH.

Also used quite extensively in the swimming pool biz. All pools are plumbed with PVC, as well as all underground electrical conduits.
Gas pipe can no longer be PVC by code and is now Polyethylene, or as we call it, PE, and is connected with heat fusion as opposed to gluing as we do with PVC.

You can also make a didgeridoo from PVC!
