Great question, Rabid.
This has been a question of much internal debate in my life. Being a part of Songfight, there has been many times where something inside me has wanted to go in one direction because it will garner the good review. While another wants to experiment because that's where my heart wants to go. And often the contention between the two leads to me abandoning the song unhappy with where it has gone.
But lately, I have been focusing more on going for what my heart wants. I want to make music that I will listen to a million times over and be happy with (and if other people like it too then that's an extra plus). But then comes the ability to do so... I think that's why I'm in such a hunt for a band right now and why I enjoy collaborations like XTRG so much. I'm seeking a way to musically experiment and essentially make any music that my wicked li'l heart desires. I don't know if I have the ability all on my own.
