It's rare, but not unheard of. ;)

For what it's worth, I can't remember the last time someone set me off. It's probably good to get it out of my system every now and then.

I also wouldn't mind hearing what Beatles song you would pair me up with, if one comes to mind. Maybe "Girl" comes to mind, and if it does, I am one step ahead of you:

Gleen:

For you, probably "Two of Us". For Frank, I dunno... I don't want to hear him cover a Beatles song. Can I make him cover "Last Caress" instead?

Thank you for your input, Erik. Maybe Rachael and I SHOULD record a cover of that song. Might happen.

Any time we can get Frankie Big Face to record ANY song, that's a good thing. Even crappy songs. I am not saying that "Last Caress" is a crappy song, I am not familiar with it by name alone.

ROCK!

I would like to hear Bjam do "Oh Darlin!" and Luke Henley do "Day in the Life." I'm sure others will come to me.

Back when I was testing my audio card I did this little one-take testaroo:
(Sorry, the levels are a bit low)

Not bad, but the "falsetto" bit at the end was ill-advised!

OH! okay, I HAVE heard that one, and a Frankie Big Face cover of the song would freaking rule.
This is a beautiful rendition, and oddly enough it makes me think you would do a dynamite job with "If I Needed Someone" which is only two songs after "In My Life" on Rubber Soul.

ROCK!

I'm sorry I handled that poorly. I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I didn't deliberately engineer my comment to reflect poorly on you, or anything. I wasn't really making a direct request, as I didn't want to come off as pushy. I suppose I weaseled around it in the wrong fashion, so I'm in no position to make any sort of request now.

It's not like being emotionally needy and sensitive is some kind of fun game to play. It's just me. I'm sorry you find it annoying. I'll do my best to repress my personality in future posts.

Good point, Roymond!

My links are all broken, because they still point to Songhole. This page should still have the mp3s near the bottom of the page, though.

*sigh*

Okay, let me break this down for you. Parts of this post serve a useful purpose, and parts of it do not. Here is the useful part:
Lord of Oats wrote:I'm sorry I handled that poorly. I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I didn't deliberately engineer my comment to reflect poorly on you, or anything. I wasn't really making a direct request, as I didn't want to come off as pushy.
Everything you said there was very reasonable. It showed that it may not have come off as you intended it, and that's fine.

Let us continue:
Lord of Oats wrote:I suppose I weaseled around it in the wrong fashion, so I'm in no position to make any sort of request now.
This sentence starts out fine, but "I'm in no position to make any sort of request now" comes dangerously close to the "poor me" attitude that set me off in the first place. You're setting it up for me to say "Oh, don't be silly! You can still ask!"

It would be more effective to just apologize as you did, and then ask politely. Your whole message would have been much better if you would have just let it end there, but you didn't.

In the next paragraph, you go firmly into "woe is me" territory.
Lord of Oats wrote:It's not like being emotionally needy and sensitive is some kind of fun game to play. It's just me. I'm sorry you find it annoying. I'll do my best to repress my personality in future posts.
Maybe you just feel like you're explaining yourself, but this last paragraph serves no useful purpose unless you're trying to portray the wounded party, or you're trying to guilt someone into saying something like "I'm not trying to change you, it's okay." or "I'm sorry I overreacted." You will get no such apology from me. I will not feel guilty about leaving people off of a list that I made as something fun to begin with.

Look, I am trying to help you out here. You say that you're planning on sticking around SongFight, and that's great. One WONDERFUL thing about SongFight is that it can help you to build character, and teach you to not be nearly as defensive about reviews of your material. (It certainly did that for me.)

Having said that, don't feel the need to change who you are for SongFight, but it might benefit you to realize that words have purpose.

Like many things, what you GET out of Songfight will often be a direct reflection of what you put IN to it. If you're being greeted with hostility on the boards, there's probably a good reason.

ROCK!

And a good thing to remember is that Glenn can't possibly get a fraction of what he puts in to Song Fight out of it. Especially when he works this hard on a thread.

I think Glenn and Frankie should cover ALL of the White Album! [joking, omg, forgetaboutit!...]

If I only had the time... (I was only able to post so much to this thread because it was fairly slow at work today, and even then I got a little sidetracked from parts of my actual job. Lame.)

Seriously, the Half Racks and Grammar Club projects are sucking most of my creative time away these days. Once I get those two CDs out of the way, I might not feel guilty about creating music for fun again.

Wow. Thanks for the review.

Unlike SF entries, forum posts are not carefully crafted, nor are they designed to serve any specific purpose. I'm just talking. You're reading way too much into my words. I'm not fishing for a particular response.
GlennCase wrote:You're setting it up for me to say "Oh, don't be silly! You can still ask!"

Except that I'm not. It's a little silly to think I'd need your permission to ask you for something. Isn't that the point of asking? Seems like an extra step. If I were asking, I'd ask. You're right. That's what I should have done in the first place. But I messed up, you reacted a certain way, and I am no longer in a position where I feel comfortable asking you for anything. As soon as something like this happens, my original goal is out the window, and I'm only looking for reconciliation.
GlennCase wrote:Maybe you just feel like you're explaining yourself,
Correct.
GlennCase wrote:but this last paragraph serves no useful purpose unless you're trying to portray the wounded party,
I'm not portraying anything. If I say I'm wounded, I'm wounded.
GlennCase wrote:or you're trying to guilt someone into saying something like "I'm not trying to change you, it's okay." or "I'm sorry I overreacted." You will get no such apology from me. I will not feel guilty about leaving people off of a list that I made as something fun to begin with.
Once again, I'm not trying to manipulate anyone into saying anything. You shouldn't apologize if you don't think you've done anything wrong. If you have, it wasn't leaving me off your list.
GlennCase wrote:Look, I am trying to help you out here. You say that you're planning on sticking around SongFight, and that's great.
That means a lot, considering I pissed you off. That's a nice thing to say. I certainly wouldn't want to encourage someone that I don't get along with to stick around. But that's just me. (I don't mean you, if this is us not getting along. Your material is great, and everybody else says you're very nice.)
GlennCase wrote:Like many things, what you GET out of Songfight will often be a direct reflection of what you put IN to it. If you're being greeted with hostility on the boards, there's probably a good reason.
I'm slightly offended at this. I try to bring nothing but love to SF. Apparently, it rarely works. But it seems that you're speculating. Respectfully, I disagree with your implication that I exhibit hostile behavior.

I probably shouldn't have even bothered you, in the first place. I don't like to feel left out. I guess I should learn to keep that under control. But so far, I can't function without being noticed and liked by other people. I don't think I was ever really asking for anything. I don't feel like I'm worth your time if you don't think so. I was just trying to justify my not being noticed. Woe is me, indeed. I'm an authentic wreck. Sometimes, it's beyond my control. Please try not to get mad at me for it.

In conclusion, I'm an idiot, and I should not post on boards. Despite this, I will probably continue to do so.

Hey thanks! I do like Rubber Soul. My cover just makes me miss the harpsichord solo when I hear it, but otherwise, I think it's not too bad.

Your cover of "Girl," on the other hand, kicks ass! Faithful to the original, but with a Glenn twist. Nicely done!

Perhaps you should cut your set list down from 187 songs, to....oh I don't know....maybe 12 like most people, lol.
