Yeah, I'm looking for more range and sensitivity, for a broad range of applications. I'm going to be doing acoustic guitar (plus mandolin and uke), vocals, auxiliary percussion, a couple of wind instruments, and it'll probably see some use for drum overheads until I get the set of small-diaphragms (which might do better on the mando and certain vocals and whatever too). But for now, the limited frequency response of the PG58 is killing me. For whatever reason, I think it makes my kick drum sound really good, if I place the mic a certain way. Mind you, this is a bad-sounding kick drum. I think when it comes to audio engineering, two wrongs can indeed make a right.

I think these are the mics -
CAD ICM 417 - I use these for overhead micing and vocals.
APEX 770 - Snare and electric guitar.
They've served me well so far. Maybe someday I'll get some pimp mics like you guys.

When I start recording again (aka never) it will be an AT4040.

This is way off topic, but I have no idea how to use the search function to find my answer. When and why did you stop recording? Perhaps more importantly, why aren't you famous? Aren't there any labels stalking you in the park?

I have a couple MXL condensers, but find myself always returning to the trusty SM58.

One of the great mysteries of our time.

Good lord. I've been on Songfight for over 3 years, and when I started, I had crap gear, but I've put a huge portion of my income into developing a kickass gear closet. Some of you guys I've known the whole time HAVEN'T BOUGHT SHIT. Sven is a very notable exception. It's 2007 guys, get a condenser. Jesus.

Funny. Octothorpe used to have a V63m before fluffy got here. It was stolen in the whole studio break-in thing. We got the 990 after that to replace it, and I really like it. The shock-mount is a real visual stimulator. The more professional-looking the setup, the better Mad Dog sings (or whatever you call it).

I am protesting the Iraq war.

I suspect a systemic bias against middle-class white men.

Aww, thanks Steve. Flattery is the sincerest form of flattery.

So, what exactly are you trying to say here?
I use a Rode NT3 primarily.
I used the MXL990 before that but it broke.
My other one is an AKG C 535 EB which is used in tandem with the Rode for guitar recording.
I have a really old Shure SM57 which I should just use sometime. It's been silent for about 15 years.

Shit, dude. Those total anti-war fringe candidates are looking really good to me right now.

All I have is an MXL 2001 courtesy of Ken (thanks Ken!) and a couple SM57s. It's easier to make due without a lot of mics when you don't need to record a drum kit, and also when you don't really care that much. (And don't really record that much. I think we're not the only folks with lingering Nur Ein burnout...)

I use an AKG c3000 for vocals. I'd like something nicer, but then you might hear me even better. Maybe for guests that never come over.

Speaking of which, today's Musiciansfriend deal is an AKG D50 for $20.

I use a CAD Equitek e100, of about 1996 vintage. Good mic for acoustic guitar, decent for my vocals, but not the sturdiest piece of equipment.

What kind of gear did you have when you started?
As most of you know (from my previous whiny self), when I started submitting, I just had a computer mic. Now I've got a pretty decent set of mics. Buying them all at once was a poor choice though.

Ummm, what are you or someone else doing with them?
Or were you talking brand, style, type or what because I predict you being out of options before too long.
