On top of my wish list is a grand piano. And I will be buying one in the next month or so. I've been playing a Rhodes Seventy Three that I've had since 1978 and it's a great instrument but it certainly doesn't sound like a regular piano. I've been very dissatisfied with every sample or synth piano sound that I've tired. There's really nothing like playing the real thing.

I've had the MicroKorg for a couple weeks now and it sounds great, but the interface is really pissing me off. Just now, I was reading up on the
Roland SH-201. Damn. So cheap, and so retro, with real knobs & buttons&sliders& all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things! I need it.

Man, I don't have room for a spinet, much less a grand.

Wow, that looks really awesome. I inherited an SH-101 and that is already a lot of fun to play with.

Have you played one? That is really f**king inexpensive, yet has decent quality hardware and electronics from the sound of it. This reminds me of when Ibanez hit the market. If you were lucky enough to get one before they got big, you got an incredible guitar for a fraction of the cost of like guitars.
Damn. This might happen. And I have one of those early Ibanez Artists

Here's a
helpful article on the XV-650 (the video isn't so helpful.)
My burning desire is the
Yamaha SVC-50 electric cello. Cheapest I can find is $1,100, so it'll have to wait a little.

Oh wow. Yeah, I got one of these last year maybe. It is actually very nice. I played it on all my Nur Ein stuff last summer. It played great right out of the box. In fact, I'm not sure I've changed the strings on it yet...

I absolutely love the MicroKorg. My wife wanted to learn how to play keyboard, so I bought her one as an anniversary present a few months ago. She hasn't done much learning, but I've done a lot of playing.
I think my next new gear purchase needs to be a new bass. I have a really old Telestar that I picked up pretty cheaply a few years ago. I love the tone, but the neck is warped so badly now that only small sections of the fretboard are in tune at any given time.

So much for plans.
I just bought myself a $99
Yamaha YDD-60.

So do you have any experience with it yet? I'll need to buy something like that, too... as soon as I can afford buying more things.

I just ordered it online last night, so not yet. I'll let you know as soon as it comes in, though. I believe there are Songfighters out there who use the same or similar models.

Oh crap, that's fun. What do the foot pedals look like? Are they just little click trigger pedals? Or are they also touch sensitive? Hell, I may get one of these, since the kids will love it, too.
Apparently,
this has been delivered this morning

Rock! I picked up the
Roland SH-201 a couple days ago, and have spent all my time since then rearranging everything so it fits. Sound treatment is definitely the next on the list, but the room is pretty pimp now.

My wife reports that it arrived this morning. I'll let y'all know how it handles once I get home from work today.
EDIT: Aw, nerts. It didn't come with a power adapter. This is one of the disadvantages of buying online: it says "Adapter not included" right there on the box, but I didn't see the box till I got home. Too late to go out an buy one. Guess it'll have to wait until tomorrow... or probably Saturday, as I have after-work plans tomorrow.

I knew I was looking for a 12v power adapter, but nowhere in the documentation did it specify the amperage to look for. After two Radioshack trips where I worked with a guy who clearly knew what he was doing and tried his best to help, I had to exercise my Google-fu to finally discover I was looking for 1.5 amps.
And now I'm totally playing the drums! Whooo!
Roymond: The pedals are not hinged pedals, but they are button pads with touch-sensitivity, so when I stomp harder, they do make a different noise.
I'm not entirely satisfied with the hi-hat controls (there's no option to tap it shut and let it ring), and (obviously) there's no rimshots, but other than that, it's quite intuitive and fun to play. I've always felt extremely inhibited on a real kit, which prevents me from making any real music when I get behind it. With this, I actually feel capable of keeping a beat and rocking out.
$99 drum machine + $24 AC adapter = $123 for a nice digital drum pad kit. Great bargain. I'll incorporate the drums into my next song. They sound much better than what I've been doing, anyway.

Cool, Jon. Mine arrived yesterday and I had a Radioshack power adapter that works fine. I can't believe they don't include a frickin' power wart! But the kids LOVE this thing. I'll be recording with it tonight along with my new guitar

Yeah, I'm a little shocked that it didn't come with an AC adapter. I'm more shocked, however, that they don't tell you what the specs on the adapter are. They want you to pay twice as much for the Yamaha-brand adapter.
I just got finished with about an hour of practice on this kit. Oh man I love it. Can't wait to record a song with it.

I have bought four Yamaha DD55 drum machines in the past several years. The first two were new in the unopened box and only the first came with an adaptor. The second did not. The last two were ebay purchases, and both came with adaptors, one yamaha and the other not.

Spud- you've bought FOUR of those suckers?
Jon Eric- Holy crap, how have I never seen guitarfetish.com before? They sell ModBoards! I have an analog delay that is currently hooked up to a breadboard in preparation for being installed into the guitar. The ModBoard option looks so much simpler.

Two were stolen. The fourth, or perhaps the third, was the result of drunken eBaying. I now have a spare. Wanna buy it?

Yep, it was definitely Roymond. I now have the delay and parked wah things coming, to further "frankenstein" my series A beauty. And Spud, too funny that you got drunk and bought a spare. Cuz really, who hasn't bought gear while drunk?
